Intelligent Americans don't have a problem with your kind of immigration. As long as they come in through legal methods and at least assimilate into the culture (i.e. speak English in public) then most Americans wouldn't even take a second look. Any person would be willing to give you a job but, you still have the stigma as long as immigrants are crossing the boarder illegally. Also it's human nature to dislike those who aren't like you blah blah blah.

Despite the difference in scale. A Japanese citizen couldn't cross the ocean via some makeshift raft. He'd had to sail on a ship or fly here by plane. We'd catch them at the origin becayse 1) you can't fly internationally without a passport unless it's to specific places (like U.S. to Canada pre-crackdown). Japan and the U.S. aren't that "tight" so flying to America is out of the question. What about sailing? Wait, passports are required for that too. Well, he's not getting into this country without some serious backing or he comes here on a work/student visa then overstays when the visa runs out. Which then we'd catch him and send him back home via a plane.

"Mexicans" on the other hand come across in droves. Take jobs away from LEGAL immigrants and citizens. Doesn't matter if we want the job or not. Somebody will take the job because they want to eat. If I lose my job, I'll go work at McDonalds, I'll go back out and work construction,etc. If the job exists, somebody will do it. If they came through the proper channels then we'd be golden. Just fill out a few sheets of paper and wait. It's not that hard, it's actually about as difficult as filling out a job application.

That is my issue with illegals. They cut in line in front of other immigrants, the break our laws (by entering and not leaving, some even drive without car insurance), then take jobs away from legal immigrants and American Citizens



We're not racist..well some Americans are but, not all. The difference between "arab" americans and "Mexicans" is the method they got into the country. Arabs come in legally where as "Mexicans" don't.

About Canada: It's Canada. We don't need to hire a security guard for the guy renting the apartment above us. Unless he starts making a lot of noise so we can't sleep at night. Once people start sneaking into America via Canada we'll put boarder patrol there.

Let me counter with this. We had to print money for the bank bailouts. The last few years we have been borrowing money from other countries to pay for the various programs of the government. Social Security is already a mess and will be bankrupt before we're old enough to draw benefits. People are spending money to be taxed to raise the income of the Federal Government. So what's left?

We're already printing money for "smaller" spending. So..what is so hard to grasp when we are about to spend 1/3rd of the total federal budget (of 2008) within the first two months of 2009? The money wasn't there before and the politicians couldn't play their economic voodoo then so why is it any different now? The money didn't exist then and it doesn't exist now. Even borrowing this amount of money only means that we are digging a deeper hole. I can't go into debt and keep spending and somehow magically get out of debt. Neither can the government. You simply can't spend your way out of debt.

Giving the American people $8 a week isn't going to help anybody (look at the numbers and break them down. You'll see my point). The money won't create jobs, it'll barely do anything for the economy if it does anything at all. As Whitelion has pointed out we should spend the money on better projects since some aren't "pressing" and others are downright stupid. But, as the senators run rampant with our hard earned tax dollars like a teenage girl at the mall with a no-limit credit card. We will eventually have to pay for our irresponsibility. Though, I can understand where people are coming from. The man that gave them "hope" is suddenly telling the American people that the sky is falling. The average idiot played into the mass hysteria so politicians like Chuck schumer, Nancy pelosi and Harry Reid can pass their little pet projects.

I'm starting to not hate Obama, I'm starting to pity him. I'm also beginning to think he was just a puppet for certain politicians.

Edit: I think we had a communication error Blind_assassin. When I said that we didn't have the money. I meant that the money didn't physically exist in the world. The Government actually had to print up money for both "stimulus" bills between Bush & Obama. So our Federal Government just decided to make more money (anybody who stayed awake in their economics class would realize the problem with printing 1 trillion dollars at once).

We live in a word full of idiots and their gross stupidity has begun to overwhelm the intelligent people in the world.

A good (but, misguided) man who fought passionately for a cause he believed in. Even if I disagree with his ideology of socialism/communism. Did a good thing by fighting on the behalf of the poor, downtrodden and removing dictators. Other than my ideological disagreements over socialism/communism. I find the man inspiring.

Lets ignore the fact that the United States is projected to have a $1.2 trillion deficit by the end of this year, even though the "stimulus" is estimated to cost 1 trillion dollars even if I overestimated it a little bit. That is still hundreds of billions of dollars being spent THAT WE DON'T HAVE. Money works the same way no matter who holds it. I can't go into debt and keep spending money and magically get out of debt.

The "stimulus" which is barely doing anything besides funding "pet projects" for senators is as big as the entire federal deficit ($1.2 trillion this year). Money works the same way in my hands as it does in the governments hands. I can't spend my way out of debt and neither can the government. My money was near worthless before the Government decided to print billions more and lower the value.

A lot of the actual "spending" in the "stimulus" is junk that wouldn't help the economy. Whatever, if the economy is going to collapse unless people get their digital converters or get screened for STD's then this place sucks enough that is needs to collapse and start over.

It was more than just a swipe at Obama. It was a swipe at the politicians in Washington who claim to be champions for the "little guy" and yet earn 6 figure incomes ($165,000) for their jobs while middle class America gets around 50k a year

Overall, I agree with projects like repairing bridges, making government buildings "green" or more energy efficient which saves money in the long run. Hell, if I had my way every government building would have solar panels (where it would be effective). Tax cuts across the board rather than the government spending. The 500 a head is 'okay' for the moment but, my principals are that Government should only give it's people Protection from force or fraud (Cops, Military, Courts). While the rest should be left up to the individual state governments or in the private sector. A lot of this is just pure junk. The actual paper for the "bill" being passed in the Senate is 900 pages and weights 11lbs. I feel the need to buy a the worlds largest pig and write "Government spending" on the side of it to drive my point.

I love how everybody blames the wars as the reason that the world economy hit the breaks. The wars may have costs us an equivalent of money equal to the GPA of several smaller countries but, we're sustained these wars for 8 years now. Depending on who you ask the cost in around 1-2 trillion. Everybody bitches about that cost (even though Obama's Faux "stimulus" will cost 1 trillion).

The real reason behind the economy hitting the breaks is that people got greedy, everybody was borrowing on credit and debt was just exchanging hands all the time. The average American has actually been spending more than they make. Combined with the overinflated housing prices. There are estimated to be 2 million more homes than there are families to occupy them. So combined the overspending of the average person, mismanaged lending to anyone (living or dead), the bursting of the housing bubble.
This isn't a case of the straw that broke the camels back.

I was hoping for a "good" debate on this subject but, Misterstupid has forced me to settle with this.

If you came into this country illegally, you broke the law. What happens when you break the law? You get punished. We enforce every other law (even the arbitrary ones) so why the fuck do people feel the need that these people are somehow different?

Now, that this is out of the way. Illegal immigrants are leaving in droves because their primary work (housing, construction,etc) is drying up or completely stopped. They weren't "taking the jobs nobody wants" they were forcing people to work for less. Why would a construction company hire a guy for $9-10/hr when he can hire an illegal for $5/hr? I've worked in warehousing and construction and most of my coworkers were illegal immigrants (usually Guatemalan). Construction, roofing and such are good ways to debunk the "jobs nobody wants" argument. Since not every illegal is a maid in a hotel or a janitor. Even fast food and other restaurant jobs are jobs somebody would want (usually younger people).

A weapon can do nothing on it's own. A gun will just lay there waiting for someone to pick it up. The same goes for a hammer, a shovel, a pitchfork, etc.

The problem with banning weapons is that it's impossible. For countries like Japan that have bans on firearms. Guns still get into the country and into the hands of the Yakuza and similar organizations. In order to counter this the police or other security forces would have to be armed to counter the threats of gangs or the petty thief. There are two problems with this (I'm just going with guns for simplicity)

1). Criminals will usually have better weapons. They can access anything from a GLOCK to a fully automatic rifle. The average patrolman is only issued a 9mm. Sometimes they are issued a shotgun but, only S.W.A.T. have any real access to "heavy firepower". In order to counter this problem you have to equip the average patrolman with better guns on par with S.W.A.T. teams. Which leads to problem #2

2). With increases in firepower between the criminals and the police. The average citizen is the only one actually effected by the banning of weapons. They are no longer allowed to possess any means to defend themselves (outside of baseball bats, golf clubs, etc). Which leaves the citizens vulnerable to robbery. Police can't always be there to protect them and not everyone will have the money to hire their own security. So in the absence of police the only person left to defend the family is the family itself. A related problem to the difference in firepower between citizens and the people charged with their protection leads to abuse of power.

Without the means to protect themselves it leaves the citizens at the mercy of abusive police or criminals. History has proven several times that the removal of weapons from the hands of the ordinary citizen only leads to trouble.

As for the carrying a weapon on your person for protection on the street is nonsense. The only chance to use such a weapon would be if the thug turned his back to run. Which would lead to the thug just shooting his victims before he runs. In the end it is impossible to prevent humans from killing one another. It is simple human nature.

Similar to what I said at the beginning of the thread. Took a shit hole and turned it into a powerful industrial country. He wasn't a complete idiot when it came to military tactics but, he wasn't a master of tactics either. If he had won in WW2 he would have been a hero to his country but, since he lost he is considered one of the faces of evil. As someone already said in this thread "The winners write the history books"

The whole event was rather interesting. Ziggy got lost in the airport due to the terrible way the airport is designed for arriving flights. Showed her how terrible the roads are designed here (as the other Georgia residents of Fakku can attest to). She kept asking questions about the differences between Atlanta and Penn. Mostly, the different signs like "No" or "X" over opposing traffic lanes and various other traffic differences.

The condo was rather impressive. Well furnished (besides what appeared to be an ancient tv. It was so old I believe that if I had turned it on I would have gotten a crude cave painting of a buffalo.

The tour of the campus was excruciatingly long. I was bored out of my mind during the whole trip but, I was happy to help Ziggy out anyways.
