Guns (like anything, really) are dangerous in the hands of someone who don't know what they're doing.

A permit ensures that a person at least knows the basics.


And by limiting access to only those who take guns seriously enough to follow a course, it helps keep them out of the hands of- well- idiots.


And I don't know about you- but I find such lenient access and everyday carry and a whole slew of American culture regarding their guns to be very good at fueling paranoia.

Anyone could potentially be carrying a gun.

And anyone could be a potential criminal- or simply someone who's very high-strung and stressed out, ready to crack.

I'm not saying to ban guns- like many lefty-loving liberal new-age yuppies (banning is just avoiding a problem, really)- but there really should be some stricter rules on gun purchase.

No handgun permit yet- haven't gotten 'round to it.

But shotguns are perfectly legal- they're used for hunting, after all.
