[color=#2e1a6b]I've decided upon everything except for the graphics card. after reconsidering, I think that the radeon 6770 would greatly limit my game performance, considering how awesome the rest of my computer is.

here's the radeon 6770 that I was previously considering, here's a radeon 6850 and a GeForce GTX 460 1gb that I'm currently considering.

Of these 3, which one do you recommend? (I want to play at 1080 resolution)[/color

I've done tons of research recently, and just about everyone says the intel i5 2500k is the best for gaming. The only reason I'm getting the i7 2600k is because I'm also doing video editing (the i7 cost $100 more). The i5 2500k will cost $220 if you buy from newegg, or $180 if you buy from microcenter. You can also try combo deals or a barebones kit to see whatever's the best deal.


I was looking at SSDs, and I found this 64 gb Kingston SSD for only $70 (here's a newegg link).

this is a good deal, right?

every hard drive seems to be either out-of-stock, from a weird un-trustworthy website, or incredibly expensive. However, I think I have a plan to deal with this issue:

I will buy a 32 GB SSD for the OS, and put all my software and video files on my 500gb external hard drive. later (possible until spring), when hard drives are back to normal prices, I'll buy one.

Is this a good plan, or are external hard drives unable to do this?

I swear this was only $70 two days ago, but now it's $130! (I think Amazon is out of stock, so the $130 is from other sellers).

Newegg.com doesn't sell any for less than $140. Microcenter doesn't sell any for less than $120, except for the ones I already mentioned.

here's a list of some 1 TB hard drives (7200 rpm). some say "300 mbps", some say "600 mbps", what's the difference?

edit: Bestbuy had Seagate Barracuda 1TB (7200 rpm). Is it any good? I mention it because I trust bestbuy more than those weird websites.

I asked people on tomshardware.com about my build, and they gave me a few final recommendations (they said that the biostar mobo and refurbished HD were bad)

So, here's what I'm planning to get:

an intel i7 2600k quad-core processor
a MSI P67S-C43 Motherboard (it's only got 1 PCI exp 2.0 slot, but I don't care about crossfire)
a corsair 500w PSU
8 of gb ram (DDR3-1600)
a mid-tower case (bottom-mounted PSU)
a DVD burner
and an XFX Radeon 6770 Graphics card
all the above is $610

The only thing I haven't decided on was the Hard drive. I could get a:

$80 Samsung Spinpoint F4 2TB (5400 RPM)
$80 Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB - Refurbished (7200 RPM)
$75 Hitachi Deskstar 5K3000 1.5TB (It doesn't say what the RPM is)
$120 Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB (7200 RPM)

which one should I get? I will mostly be using it to store video files; I don't know how crucial 7200rpm is

I hate club/party dancing, but my school forces me to do classical Dances (waltz, tango, etc.). I live in texas, so I've done square dancing before, but very rarely.

I'm actually a really big fan of DDR; I can pass most expert songs. I'm building a home-made dancepad since It's expensive at the arcade

The culture has a big influence on young people. I think that most of culture's influences are really bad (though some might disagree with me). Most songs, movies, and tv shows display partying, sex, divorce, etc. as "normal". Consequently, the culture also displays honest & loyal relationships as abnormal and uncool. Some people are controlled by what the culture says is cool/normal. Does this mean that honesty, loyalty, and friendships are bad? No, but it means that the culture tries to make it bad.

Being friends with a girl is not pathetic, what's pathetic is letting the culture control how you live

I don't need an SSD, but I'm interested in their ability to read stuff very quickly. The SSD market should grow in the next few years, and I want to have that option available.

As for religion, the bible says in Mathew 5:28 "but I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart". Now, I'm not sure If hentai counts as " a woman", so that aspect is debatable. All I know is that for me, porn results in guilt; hentai does not. I don't want to rationalize this sin, but just to put this in perspective: Jesus said that hating someone is the same as murder.

Apart from possible religious issues, I don't think fapping is bad. It's hard to tell if it's bad or not, because most articles are just plain bullish*t.

I'm pretty much trying to decide between these two: the Saphire Radeon 6770 for $100, and the Diamond Radeon 6750 for $80. I think the 6770 is a better deal, but I also think that I shouldn't get an expensive one if I'm just gonna upgrade in a year.



Obviously, with my budget, I'm not gonna use an SSD as my main Hard Drive right now. But isn't the SATA 6gb/s good for future upgrades? I'm also interested being able to boot from an SSD, which will require the SATA 6gb/s (right?)

for the PSU, I think I'll just get a 500w corsair, most people online seem to recommend it.

I want to clear some confusion: I'm not on THAT tight of a budget. If it's recommended that I get a mobo in the $100's then I can easily get one. The only reason I was considering a $50 mobo was because I was ignorant on the necceseties of a motherboard.


I think the i7 is good for HD video editing, which I plan to be doing alot of.


I did lots of research online about the best graphics cards. I didn't read anything that recommended the radeon 6750. I did however, hear lots of good things about the radeon 6770 in this article, as well as other places. I found one on newegg for $100 after rebate & shipping. I think I'll get it unless y'all say otherwise.

I'm still trying to decide about the motherboard. I have very little interest in crossfire, so this might be an option. or I could go with the $90 biostar TP67B+ I mentioned earlier, or I could go with the $70 Asrock h61 that flaser mentioned earlier.

These words don't necessarily contradict each other. It's certainly possible to be able to make good decisions and be fun, and (unfortunately) it's possible to make bad decisions and be boring :o

Microcenter sells the 430W PSU you recommended, but they also sell this 500W PSU for $10 less. I'm assuming I should get the 500w PSU? I don't see any difference other than the wattage.

for my motherboard, I think I'll get this one, microcenter sells it for only $90.

Microcenter only sells 2 motherboards that have usb 3.0 for under 90$:this one, and this one.

are any of these mobos OK, or should I look for others?
