Naw, Ive been to Europe and you'll always run into people that don't speak what you need them to. While in France there's lots of English and German but not everyone, my point is no where on earth is a secondary language 100% accepted/known.

I have a good understanding of French but I cant imagine how anyone could get by without it in some places, and it would probably be the same for English. No place is 100% bilingual.

Without a bit of English? Montreal(possibly the most diverse city in Canada) is a pretty good example, there are times when English is fine but every once in a while you come across someone who doesn't speak the language, good luck trying to order a specific meal or ask for directions. I just don't see how it could be fine, even if the province has like a 90% French competency rate.

To be able to live in those places without knowing a bit of English? I severely doubt it.

1. All three of those countries are hundred if not thousands of years older than Canada

2. Our population is only around 35 million, we roughly have about the same population as the state of New York.

A lot of countries have a higher English speaking population.

edit: just looked it up, Canada has around 28.5 million English speaking citizens while the English speaking populations of Denmark(4.7m) Norway(4.5m) and Sweden(8.2m) only come up to 15.4m. Even combined that's not even close. Did you mean percent?

War of 1812: when America declared war against the British in an attempt to annex British territories in modern day Canada.

That was the battle of york(not our capital), it was a "small provincial" parliament building(a library was also burned down). Not sure where the stuff came about Ottawa being raided. As stated above British soldiers ended up burning down your white house near the end of the war(which neither side saw a way to decisively win anymore). Final point, a lot of the British soldiers making up a large part of their forces were native Canadian.

So it is in fact true.

p.s. English is an amalgamation of multiple languages based on Saxon, and the English(and the rest of English speaking countries) decided to go with colour, why change it?
