The series is centered around Rygart Arrow, an "un-sorcerer" born into a world of people who can use magic. These people can make quartz do many things, but Rygart is one of the few exceptions; he cannot use quartz, making many aspects of life difficult for him. Yet despite this, at military school, he manages to become best friends with Hodr and Sigyn, the future King and Queen of the Krisna Kingdom and Zess, the younger brother of the Secretary of War of the Athens Federation.
Years later, Rygart is reunited with Hodr and Sigyn at the Capital city of Krisna where he learns the Athens Federation has just declare war to the Kingdom. But it is at the capital that Rygart learns that his un-sorcerer ability allows him to pilot an ancient, effective, mecha that cannot be piloted by magic users.
Rygart later learns that Zess is leading a mecha strike force to the capital which forces him to choose sides between Hort or Zess which will decide which side will win the war.

I was expecting this to be a series too. But at least we get mecha anime with the lack of mecha anime this year. Haven't seen the movie yet so I'm not sure if it will cover the entire manga. Even in the manga the main mech full capabilities are yet to be fully discovered.

Well that's disappointing.
I hated the manga and I'm sure the anime will be just as bad.
Trailer caught my interest.

Lol, the words, "Jesus Yamato" come to mind. It's like Gundam all over again, except in a different timeline and using quartz instead of gundamium alloy. Rygart is voiced by Souichirou Houshi, the same seiyu who voiced Kira Yamato. The fact that the series starts almost parallel to Gundam SEED (falling into the cockpit in midst of a battle and learning to pilot it on the go) screams irony. The difference is that Rygart's a bumbling idiot with some luck whereas Kira's a born genius.
Nevertheless, having never read the manga, I was impressed with the first release. Crisp animation, good voice-acting, and good plot development. More character development will probably occur in the next release. Good OP/ED music too.
And I'd bang Queen Sigyn anyday.

personally, i preferred the manga's names as to the anime sub's...
Lygatto sounds way better than Rygart.

He didn't even destroy one Golem. I would like to say that piloting a mecha comes off as something complicated, but Broken Blade made me realize that once you experiment a little, you can have a good grasp of what to do. Case in point, Rygart discovers that moving the foot pedal moved a foot. Pretty obvious, right? Forwards = forwards, backwards = backwards. So it's actually not surprising now that a first timer could pilot a mecha (even assuming he had no Golem operating instructions when in military school).

Gundam, Macross, Vandread, Nadesico, and others all have the main character winding up in a situation where they pilot the series' mecha (not all of which are Gundam-level mecha). So really, Gundam SEED has nothing to do with it. Well, it does have that "we were best friends but now we're enemies" thing, but that didn't start with Gundam SEED either.

And I'd bang Queen Sigyn anyday.Indeed, although that fanservice was random (see-through shirt? What's the point of even wearing that?) considering the rest of the time she is practically dressed antifanservice-style with the exception of the gap in her robe that reveals her short shorts. Also, I'm not liking the implied love triangle since I'm not a big fan of the "I married this guy I don't love even though I wasn't forced into it, and now I want to marry the other guy and they are best friends" scenario.

Unlike Kira, who rewrote the Gundam's OS in a matter of minutes to increase the speed and reaction time of the gundam, Rygart just kinda worked the golem on the fly and being awkward with it. You have to give him some credit since he sorta disabled one golem before it regained its senses. That first battle was due to much luck and a dash of common sense. I was also hoping for more ownage, too.

As for the best friends thing, I thought that started with Gundam SEED, unless it was some other series? In terms of using that friend vs. friend concept in mecha series, I mean.

They're see-through allright depending on what you buy. But hey, I'll take any fanservice in a series that is mostly devoid of that stuff. Other times, the overused fanservice in other series makes me wanna retch. But as for the loved triangle, I think it was a forced marriage, or else who in their right mind would marry someone they didn't love? Dunno, I need to read the manga to figure that one out, or maybe the next theatrical release will explain what exactly transpired between the good quartet of friends.

But SEED certainly did not pioneer the concept.

Ever heard of night gowns or negligees? They're see-through allright depending on what you buy.I know what they are (though I would say that what was shown wasn't really either of those but that's neither here nor there). My problem is that the fanservice was rather random, and at a fairly serious turn of events, and I feel that the fanservice would have been better served if she was just nude or only wearing panties to mitigate what I see as being ridiculous.

But as for the loved triangle, I think it was a forced marriage, or else who in their right mind would marry someone they didn't love?Well, I thought about that. Sigyn has no royal blood, so an arranged marriage seems unlikely. And Hodr may also have had to deal with the "you can't marry someone outside or royalty/aristocracy" thing. Neither of them seem so dumb that they would marry each other without love. Assuming what I just said to be true (which it may turn out not to be), a love triangle will make Sigyn look like a horrid bitch. And I would rather not have that.

And I would rather not have that.It still wouldn't make sense if they weren't forced to be married together because Sigyn doesn't look like the type to betray her friends, indicated by the nonwearing of the rings. Sigyn might not be royal blood, but she could be part of the aristocracy. If so, an arranged marriage isn't out of the question. Unless she's trying to bed Hodr to make Rygart jealous... but even that doesn't make sense because a marriage to Hodr would mean ruling the nation as the queen, and that isn't something to be taken lightly.

Hodr needed a Queen, and Sigyn being married to the king would give her ample opportunity to pursue her interests. So I imagine it was 'Hey, lets get married, it should work out for both of us' 'oh, sounds good I guess'. Since they were already friends, it just kind of made sense.

@Oneshott: still wouldn't make sense. I wouldn't marry someone I didn't love unless I had no other choice or if I get a billion dollars and I can abscond with the money later.

Man, I'm having problems phrasing things how I want to.
Okay, I think I've sorted it out. The fanservice itself bothers me, but it also bother me more in the sense that-
You know what? Forget it. I shouldn't have even bothered to bring it up; it's so insignificant. It's a "can`t see the forest for the trees" thing.
Actually, that could be seen as a betrayal in a different way, couldn't it? Well, I can't remember if Hodr wore his wedding ring. If he didn't, that would actually point towards a "marriage of convenience"-type situation.
I really should have added in the "aristocracy" to my post since I was including that in the whole "royal blood" situation.

Something doesn't lose its sensibility just because of your own personal emotions. oneshott's statement makes perfect sense. Just because you feel a certain way doesn't mean the characters of a fictional universe and set storyline will "feel" the same way as well.
Having rule over an entire kingdom is worth much more than a billion dollars from my point of view anyways.
I'm going to agree with oneshott on this one, marriage out of convenience.
