GIRLS und PANZER:
Sensha-do (The Tank-Way):
"The art of operating combat tanks, a national sport for females."
Same military history adviser as SW and Upotte.
I don't care about the irresponsible socio-political implication of moe girls dressed up like Waffen-SS, cheerfully operating war machines before adoring crowds...
My body is ready.

what do SW and Upotte have in common? I didn't watch Upotte.Upotte had high school moe girls as the spiritual representations of automatic weapons. They could summon and dismiss their guns spontaneously and were technically immortal. (Although I suppose you could explode them and then scatter the pieces.) They also can't kill unless under human command.
Besides that, to quote myself:

... what a lucky history buff he is... T.T

im expecting an island as the whole school. otherwise it's ridiculous since they practice tanks. i wouldn't expect town battles tho - too destructive

One would be to set the urban fighting in an uninhabited city-replica. Or they could fight in real cities but deal minimal damage via plot magic.
I don't think the series will be this clever, but it would be funny for the girls to destroy public property and natural treasures like a bunch of idiots, racking up mountains of debt, and have people cheer as their own shops, homes and temples are destroyed, like "--look, my house is on TV!" (what's left of it)
"Isn't sensha-do great?!" (mount Fuji explodes)

I found it underdeveloped, slow and tame. Even for a mere 10 episodes, they really had to stretch the source material, and they didn't add much original content. Its strongest element was the premise.
It probably would have been better as a few OVAs.
I don't expect anything better from Girls und Panzer, but I love tanks so much I'm willing to put up with a weak story.

Well... yes, that goes without saying. I don't see why they would intentionally cause collateral damage. That would be stupid.

I'm gonna do a compare and contrast...
Strike Witches
Upotte
These anthromorphic gun/aircraft anime have a bad to mediocre standing with me. But I'm gonna give this a try, with the hope I can be proven wrong.

Yeah. I'm sure a few writerly anime fans could write better stories themselves, given a week or so to do it.
Since these are real girls and not fanservice vehicles, I have somewhat higher hopes than the previous two moe-military shows. However the main reason I care is because omg tanks.
I'm also curious to see what other tanks appear. I wonder if Sensha-do is restricted to just WWII era, or if we'll be seeing the historical breadth of AFV development.

im with you on tanks but don't expect too much detail on them. rather, expect slice of life be more of a major theme than tanks. upotte pulled it since it has modern uses, but tanks aren't as much on the scenes. it's more of a drone thing nowadays

There's more potential to explore with tanks as not only can you examine the machine itself, but also the teamwork dynamic with the crew.

yeah but i can't help but feel that tanks are just a part to pull in viewers. they would cater to both tank otakus and non-tank otakus. in that case my thought is that they won't go too into the specifics on their parts of the machine. i'd prefer that they would so i can figure out a suggestion for our country's army.
