somewhat related but I just wanted to add that this had possibly one of the best soundtracks ive ever had from a movie; I would recommend you all pick this one up.

I've heard so much about Evangelion over the years but never bothered to pick it up. But I recently decided to watch the first movie and of course this, the second one.
Now I can see why people love it! Loved 2.22 the most, especially the ending of it, that really was breathtakingly amazing!
So eagerly waiting for the third movie now, I could just pick up the original series but I'm going to be weird and stick with the films for now. I suppose you can now consider me officially an Evangelion fanboy, even if I am incredibly late to the party.

I just watched it as well and i gotta say... For the first time since Evangelion was created, Shinji acted like a true baddass. I had goosebumps when he rushed over the angel to counter it all on his own since Rei and Asuka couldn't make it in time. I truly felt respect for that kid.
And yea i gotta agree with everyone else, Shinji IS less annoying than in the orginal series.

That and other things.
Though i must have forgotten many things in the series since i made that statement.
But still, my standpoint of Shinji did improve thanks to the movie.

First I am a massive fan of the original. That said 2.22 is so much different from the series that I was in pure and complete shock. I'm not bashing 2.22 but it deviates from the classic so much that until the next two movies come out I am going to be lost dazed and confused. Can't wait for the rest.

But I kinda like the change. This is probably because I'm used to reading alternate versions of Evangelion( like Gakuen Datenroku)

To be honest with you all I'm having a real hard time putting up the chronology of all the Evangelion movies/ova's/serie.
I'll try to be more precise.
I know the chronology for the previous ova's and series. The problems are the new movies.
It's the small things that are making me confused. The Red line on the moon (is it Rei's//Lilith's blood from The End of Evangelion?). Tabris/5th Child on the moon and his enigmatic line: This time I'll make you happy (or something along those lines.)
Are the new movies like a timewarp or a kind of continuation of the previous episodes (serie and movies included).
I'm fairly confused you know. I was hoping that the new movies would explain things better and leave the historical/religious mumbo jumbo for lols' stuff out.
Instead I'm even more confused and have more questions.
Gotta love EVA...

Think of it this way. ALT. UNIVERSE EXCUSE TO MILK THE CRAP OUT OF THEIR PRODUCT! That's the only answer that makes the most sense.

I also liked that fight quite a lot. Actually the whole culmination of their work.
The manga depicts it much better than the original series.

They basically perform music for the majority of the movies where you go "oh shit this soundtrack is epic!"

I know I'll probably get bashed for this, but this is easily my favorite of the Evangelion films. It perfectly meshes everything I loved about the original series and wisely reworks the plot into something that is both 'familiar' and 'original' in its own right. Can't wait for the next installment, and this is coming from someone who thought that the Rebuilds were going to be a bad rehash of the original... now I know that I was wrong.

Well that was my first thought. . . until one of my friends pointed out some of the small differences that makes a big impact. Small hints throughout both films seem to point out that it's a continuation from end of evangelion. I'm curious how the next two films will be now . . . Hoping for the rei ending. . .

Just watched this movie the other day, and it was amazing.
Anyone notice the song near the end though? Sounded rather familiar...like a K-ON song... "Tsubasa Wo Kudasai" anyone? Simmonsing? Tribute? Indirect advertising? Eva came first? Moeification in mah Eva? Anywho the song sounds a LOT like the K-ON song, and I haven't watched the original series so I don't know if Eva put out the song first or it was thrown in there after K-ON.
Confirmation please.

Tsubasa Wo Kudasai is a extremely famous song in Japan. It was written in 1991 by Kaori Kawamura and it gets a lot of covers. K-on used it before Eva did.
OT: Like a lot of you I think that Rebuild is a sequel to the original series. My major reason (along with the more subtle clues) is the fact that nearly every line Kaworu has suggests that he remembers what happened in the original series.
Speaking of Kaworu does anybody know why he called Gendo father? Was it explained at some point, whether that be in the tv series or one of the movies, or will it be explained later.
