I enjoyed it but yes the ending was depressing

Anime felt like Gurren Lagan to me *and god i hated THAT ending with passion* First half seemed allright, second half basically felt like a completely different anime.... ending almost put me into a coma lol.

I guess Harem anime are the only things i like

honestly the ending is big disappointment, and the whole show is a total mess, even so it was pretty entertaining.

I honestly don't see an issue with the ending. Sad as it was it was still very good. Had me moved to tears when I heard Inori sing those lyrics as he placed that headphone on.

Also for anyone curious. The Cat's Cradle shape Inori FIRST presented to Shu when she told him to "Take it.", is called
'Jacob's Ladder'. I'm still searching for the second.

Ending is depressing, I hate sad endings, seriously.
Inori was a fine girl too.

Ehh was a pretty good show, can't say I disliked it. I found the ending to be pretty damn depressing, and I love sad endings, so props to I.G., also the animation made my eyes cum, yeah that's about it.

Also, I forgot to mention how god-like the soundtrack is. After like 5 episodes I was forced to collect said, OST.
0
The soundtracks are god-like and I love the character developments. Have to love the shippings as well.

I'm all for ShuXInori and ShuXAyase. Hell, I'll even support ShuXHare. BUT! WHAT.THE.FUCK.IS THAT ENDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the action, the story, the MUSIC and the characters BUT I CANNOT FORGIVE THAT ENDING!!!!!!!!!!!! GIVE ME BACK MY HAPPY ENDING!!!!!!!

The ending deserves A MILLION DEATHS!!!!!!!!! WHO THE FUCK WROTE THAT SCRIPT!? Oh, right. Hiroyuki Yoshino, famous for that fucked up ending in My-HiME........WTF!!!!

But the songs were really godly. Inori!! Have to love the voice cast as well.

Kaji Yuki as Ouma Shu is really the most fitting voice. Have to love the voice. His display of emotions in the Hare death scene really struck a chord in me.

Kayano Ai as Yuzuriha Inori/Ouma Mana. Whoever chose her knew what they were doing, that's for sure. Her low voice sounded very convincing. Her singing voice was good as well. Not only are the songs touching, the voice gave me goosebumps! I don't think I mention her splendid role as Mana. I couldn't tell them apart! Didn't even notice the voice was the same.

Hanazawa Kana As Shinomiya Ayase. One of few rare times when she isn't chosen for a loli role. Must say that she pulled it off really well.

Yu Shimamura As Menjou Hare. Perhaps one of the characters that left the biggest impression in me besides the main character. Her voice was probably the most fitting for Hare. That warm and cute voice of Yu totally fit Hare to a T.

Now that I've discussed the actual seiyuu cast, let's discuss the actual characters in more detail. I'll only cover the characters that made an impression to me though.

Ouma Shu
At first I didn't think much of Shu. He was a typical shonen anime protagonist, without any special traits about him. I was all like, "Hey look, it's another cliche MC where he gains superpowers, rejects it, fights for the girl he likes and save the world while he's at it type of story again." The visual and idea behind the whole thing keep me watching so I didn't care much about Shu. I hated his indecisive and sissy nature. But after Jun's death, I felt much more respect for him. He understood his power more and thought about what he should do. Then, later into the 2nd half. The story twisted into a different direction and so did Shu. At first I thought it was gonna be the whole Gurren Lagann thing again but the writer(have to praise him for this, as reluctant as I am) changed the whole concept and instead.....BROKE him. Have to sympathise with Shu as he had to bear the whole burden by himself. Best part was when he stand back up with his own 2 feet and decided to accept his destiny.

Overall, I like Ouma Shu. He's a guy that in the end could pull through after all!

Yuzuriha Inori
Kuudere. I think that she could be categorise as that. However, if you she's just a normal Kuudere, you're wrong. At first, I was really pissed that she acted that way towards Shu all due to "Gai's Orders". I even called her a bitch in my mind but her character development was probably 2nd only to Shu. From the expressionless doll, she turns into a silent flame that would fight for her beloved! I was really touched by the scene in the flower garden where she told Shu she would always be by her side. Not only that, the scene where she went and fought for Shu's sake, even turning into a "monster" to save Shu. Not to mention, she was one who truly understand Shu's pain and agony.

Overall, I can say for certain that Inori is a well-thought out character. Her development was probably the most logical and in the end, she is my favourite character in the whole series. Not to mention she's HOT!

Shinomiya Ayase
Ayase. Now this one actually surprised me. I didn't really think much about her except that she was voiced by Hanazawa Kana at first. Her obsession with Gai was a little irritating to me. I was like "Gai again...? Give me a break...." But after Gai's "death", seeing her different sides and understanding her character more, I must say I fell in love with Ayase as a character. Strong-willed and stubborn, never accepting help but somewhere in her heart, she knew better. She was one of those characters that just needed a push in the right direction.

Conclusion, she's one character that slowly grew on me as I watched on. I have to say that I find her real cute during her little lovey dovey moments with Shu. ^_^

Menjo Hare
Another surprise actually. I was thinking she would just be another side character that had no significance at all. I do think that she was pretty cute with her jealousy over Inori but that was it. Until the scene where she brought Shu out of his depression in the 1st half, of course. That scene made me realize, Hare was the only one, besides Inori, to truly understand Shu. Her death scene truly touched me, although it reminded too much of Shirley from Code Geass, it was really a memorable scene. That scene was worth more than 10 episodes! Seriously, that death scene truly showed me how incredible she was. Understanding Shu and supporting him through her words.

Hare, truly the one worthy to be mentioned. For a side character, she is able to be placed inside my heart besides the main characters. Pretty impressive when she didn't fight 1 single time!!

Music was incredible, animation was incredible, especially in that last Shu/Yuu fight. Best fight-scene I've seen in a long time. Personally, I really liked all the characters except for Inori. She really had no personality and no real depth to her.

Also, I thought the ending fitted perfectly
Spoiler:
At the beginning of the show, Shu is a socially awkward loser who thinks he only has "quasi-friendships" and feels completely alone, and doesn't believe that'll change. At the end of the show, yes, Inori is dead, and so is his father. But Shu is still alive, and he's now surrounded by people that deeply care about him. See, all his friends at the restaurant. And even though Haruka didn't appear in the epilogue, I'm assuming they've become a lot closer after the scenes they had in the last episodes. So yes, it was bittersweet, but Shu finally got what he never thought he could have. A real "family."

I thought of the show as a flawed diamond. There were definetly plot holes, and some elements weren't clearly explained and required either some background thinking or re-watching a scene or two to get it. But it still had incredible animation and music, some really solid characters, nice twists through the story, and IMO a very fitting ending. A lot of people might disagree, but this has become one of my favorites.

Edit: the reason Shu was
Spoiler:
blind at the end is because of what Inori did when they were both getting absorbed into the Apocalypse Virus. When she passed him the cat's cradle, it was composed of that same red material that represents someone's life-line. (the thing that Yahiro's shears can cut, it wasn't give a name) Inori literally traded her life for Shu's. She took in the virus, which killed her, and Shu took her blindness. (Notice that she was clearly blind in that last scene)

And I really don't think the ending was tragic.

Made a review:

Spoiler:

Story - 6
Story went down skyrocketing. Okay no that drastic, but maybe it's because i have high hopes for this anime with the team working on it. I don't mind the girl-gives-power-boy plot, not at all. Some would say this is CG rip-off, but i beg to differ. It has several similarity, but just several, seriously. People who said every aspect is downgraded CG is making them up

But I wont talk too much about that.

The story in GC goes down for each episode.. At first I watced it with high hope. Then for 11 ep or so I started watching this just for fun, also to know the ending. Then shit got twisted. Main chara gone pathetic and the show gives humanity ugliness when in a pinch because a very likeable girl (no sarcasm here) got killed. Which is understandable, human can change drastically when a certain drastic things happen to one, but i don't know if ishould say hurray or curse. I really, really like this kind of humanity ugliness genre, but after 12 episodes of eye candy, it's kinda to late to change genre. But oh well. At least I enjoy it more by seeing how pathetic and ugly humans can become (yes, I'm sick and i know that). I really like when the arm got severed and how the prez gone wired.

After that, the show gone middle ground. It changes Shu by him being loved by Inori and finally grows some guts. This is not a part i like. It's cliche, and kinda boring and the ending become guessable *cough*selfsacrifice*cough*. I no longer hope too much for the sory, and back at watching it just for fun and for the sake of completion.

Which is maybe a good thing. With my hopes down and me guessing it's going CG ed, I feel quite surprised with the REVERSE ed. It's still a bit guessable, but at the very least, I enjoy it. Well, except Sgu gone grandpa.

Maybe if the first half got less wasteful and not so cliche, plus the last quarter did not get too fast-paced, the story can gain more points

Art - 10
Okay, no complaining here. Okay just one, but seriously, I expect no less from Redjuice. I really like the chara design, each drawn nicely and with a cute feeling too. The only complain I have is while you can differ pretty much every male chara in GC, most female has same face and eyes, just different hairstyle. But that doesn't really important, most anime is also like that. The background is also superb and precisely drawn with every detail. All episodes also consistent with the artwork. I'm ready for giving it 9, but then I watced the BD and got biased. 10 it is.

Sound - 8
This is also one strong point of the show. Supercell did not dissappoint me with the OP. Maybe several did not like 2nd op, but I felt that the 1st and 2nd OP was nicely performed and got the right time. My deares was good and fitting for the 1st half of the show, and Everlasting Guilty Crown also fit the post-apocalyptic episodes. The ost is also great, mainly bios and Hill of Sorrow. The only stuff I didnot like was Inori's singing. Maybe some will like the slow paced Departure and Euterpe, but not me. Not my genre. At least Kokuhaku is pretty good.

Character - 4
This is didisappointing. Big. Time. They succesfully make me curious about each and every one of the chara, seriously. Im practically dying to know each and every chara's depth by fastpacing the 2nd half of the show. Because of that, many says the chara was underdeveloped to the point it's freaking sucks. I'd say the chara was well made, but they just don't have the time to introduce them to us, the watcher, and give all charas the impression of stereotypical chara. The saff fail at this point. Big time.

Enjoyment - 8
Well, I enjoy it. Really, I do. Once I know what should be expected of this show, it becomes enjoyable. And this is not sarcasm either, I truly enjoy it. Watching it never seem to be a pain for me. For people who watch it while still having really high hopes, well, too bad, you will not be able to enjoy this. For those who haven't watch this, try watching it for fun. You won't regret it

Overall - 7
Overall, this is a good show. Not a mind blowing good, but good enough. They went all out with the artwork and the music. afterall. This is not a must-see show, but it's worth to watch. (Mainly the BDs. The graphic will make you puke rainbow.)

-_- Inori is a goddess why why why she breaks!!!!!!

the ending made me sad, can we have an alternate ending like in clannad or something.

Kaimax Best Master-San
Lol Make a movement like Mass Effect 3.

GC was already dropping in story quality. so, seeing people complain about the ending, I'm not surprised. All the Inori's won't make me watch this.

This show just loved to screw over the main character too much and the ending is up on top of my most hated list because its depressing lol

kinda disappointed in the ending.

it looks like it was rushed. and there is still a lot of question and plot holes to be answered.

Ending was quite sad. As a whole I still found the series good.

Spoiler:
Anyone else though curious of what happened to Daryl? Rowan saved him, and through him in a elevator to escape (then got gunned down, though wasn't the fighting over?), was kinda hoping for something with Tsugumi.

also why did Dan Eaglemen have to die! He was such an awesome character, his ideas and charisma was second to none.
