Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~

No.. it fucking is... it should have been out by saturday... but they probably doing like they did last time.. which is just gay. And that's to basicly wait till the new ep comes and sub both of them as fast as they can, so basicly a "double" release ... well they did that with ep 21-22 if I'm not mistaken..
And that's just a killer for me since we don't have much time to discuss that 1 episode because we already have the other ep to discuss as well and that ep would have probably already broken all our hopes and theories and whatnot about the previous ep bla bla bla ok I'm done trying to explain..=\ Hope someone understands what I'm talking about haha.

Watched it. More build-up for the final round. However, the thing I'm really hating right now is how Reiji is just a helpless puppy who's running around without reason, since we all know how stuff like this goes! Eventually he might get there... when it's too late.
Heads will roll next time...probably. Although I really would've like Reiji to be a little more involved, instead of just throwing him in the background.

The final hour has come...
Cal seriously crept me out in the last episode, in a sense. Now what? After all this time, she actually knows how silly it is to hate someone!? She sure is one to talk about how pointless it is huh... The fuck's with that?! Just where did that sudden desire for redemption come from? So, does that imply that she's planning to die? If so, then I must say that it's a good sign as I definitely would love to see Ein make it through with this alive. Yet somehow, it opened up an ending possibility in which Reiji shall be the last Phantom to stand; taking Mio into consideration.
I suppose all that's left for me to do is to wait.
Btw, this one episode appearance of "Boss" Godoh himself beats the crap out of McGuire's pitiful character. I gotta say that he's one awesome boss alright compared to than of Inferno's founder, who relatively appeared in quite a number of episodes more than him only to show us nothing.
Shiga, however, is quite predictable. I can see myself in his character that's why I can somehow tell what he's gonna do.

mhm, just skimmed through the raw of the next episode. Though I'm happy for Cal, I'm not in a good mood.

Ahem... well, ep 24 was no surprise. Yet another freaking build-up for that conclusion ep with no real action. *Sigh*
One question; WHY in gods name did Scythe freaking oil those 6 phantoms up?! I mean really, so that they can slip through narrow spaces or just for Scythes perversion? I lol'ed at that part..
Oh, and another thing; Mio was even Hotter this ep. I was almost cheering Cal on to continue that session with her...
Yeah, I know how you feel. Where the hell did that sudden change of mind come from? I suspected it (skim through my post from before) but god damn, I just disregarded it because it was way too irrational. Then again, the whole series is rather irrational. By the way; is it just me or do Cal remind me of Orochimaru before that change of mind? I mean, the freaky laughter, the strange eyes, her creepiness? And, yeah. Ein living ftw. If anyone should live through this it should be Ein. But... should that somehow happen, she'd kill herself, I think. Most logical and desired outcome from me; everyone dies! YAY!
Ah yes... the dreaded wait for the last couple of episodes/episode(?).
Yeah, that yakuza boss was awesome. If anyone should beat the crap out of Inferno, I'm putting my vote on him.
Shiga is cool. Imo, he should live through this and follow boss Godoh to destroy Inferno. That would be nice.
On another note; nice sig Hermit. One could think you're obsessed with Liang Qi ;)

Lol. Quit daydreaming. How the fuck do you expect an oriental subsidiary group working under Inferno's influence to start a coup or even go as far as to "destroy" that huge and powerful organization?!
And even though I'd like to agree with you about Shiga being cool, his death is most likely inevitable considering how he still mobilized his men (from the looks of the preview), disobeying Godoh's very distinct order. I like the guy but I'd still rather have him dead in the end.
PS: If you only posted that side note in Canaan's thread, I could have used that topic material more efficiently. What a bummer.

I wish could really give more of my input on this ep but I'm just very very eagerly waiting for them to sub ep 25 . Some1 is going to die.... Ein or Drei.I kinda hope it's none=(, but the world isn't that nice. I knew the whole Cal's change of mind was going to happen, the whole Cal still walking around with the watch Reiji gave her is a giveaway. Can't wait to see the skill of the "Number Sisters" tho ^^.

THE WAIT IS OVER FOR EPISODE 25 IS FINALLY OUT!! (Gonna watch it on Tuesday)

Good episode, a suitable setting for the final episode. Cal was suppose to die, lets not deny the reality guys, without her dying it'll just mess the story up.
*Bang* ... Good job Reiji, welcome back from your episodes in Emo land. Hope you don't dissapoint in the final episode.
6 sisters of hotness? Hell yea! Cept... why producers why?! why can't you fakking give a demo of their strength for just a tiny bit in this episode?! Teh wait kills!!
And lastly, R.I.P Cal. Your monsterous growth from a lolli to a busty assasin shall never be forgotten.
Will Ein die? *flip coin*

Stereotypical...
LOL! Maybe that's some kind of a special, ability enhancing oil he's using.
On a more serious note, he's an artist. Since I'm one myself, I can quite understand some sort of meticulousness or perfectionism on his part in regards to "taking a very good care" of his precious creations.
Ain't gonna argue with you on this one; Mio's a really fine babe. I'm just disappointed and even more pissed off at Cal for stopping half-way through!

ahh
well. now that that parade is over... we get to see reiji go into kill everything mode. you know. how he was back in say ep 8 when he killed that kid and his mother?
i get the feeling that yes he'll probably die this time, but at least he plans on taking some friends with him.
perhaps now i can finally, FINALLY, see scythe master die. i hate that guy, he came off as prick when he was introduced at the start, later a coward when he got to stare death down, and ultimately ruined the lie of one of my favorite characters (granted cal's life was already ruined 99.9999999% of the way already, and all scythe did was give her that last little push).
heres hopes that we get to see win in the final ep, else im goin back to readin BAA, because at least that has a plot that makes SENSE.

Why must all the good things come to an end pretty much all at once?
There was no turning back... yeah right! Nevertheless, there was no doubt that this was a very good episode from beginning to end. Is it Mio, Elen, or Cal? I think we must all obviously know by now whom Reiji has chosen.
Just so you know, it was once again quite funny to find yet some sort of similarity in between Drei and Canaan and in both the second to the last episode of their respective series. Surely you realize that the "haunting of ghosts" scenes are what I'm referring to.
Also, Shiga's luck not only impresses me but surprises me as well. I guess we're really of the same... whatever that is. I still can't quite believe that I was so looking forward to seeing someone(a character), who closely resembles me, get killed. And to think that I had already envisioned myself in his place, for it not to happen... sucks!
For me, I wouldn't say that his resolve was or seemed too shallow. The previous episode should have pretty much foreshadowed his decision, about the time when he had learned of Elen's absence in school that day. Well, if running all over the place for hours in desperate pursuit/search of someone is not meaningful in the least bit, I no longer know what else could possibly be. And with Mio's phonecall in this episode, it gave him the push (or some form of reassurance/support) he needed. It was clearly seen/expressed in his face and seemingly relieved (body)gesture afterwards, as if his ridden all of his doubts in wholeheartedly accepting what he must do.
He didn't, at least not for me. His reasoning, resolve, determination and/or whatnot were all fully justified when he had finally made ONE firm decision; to keep his promise to Elen. He has lived in such a cruel world for much too long since then to know better that he is not capable of saving anyone. He never gave up on Cal which in all actuality, he very well did save her the only way he knew how.
He never went against his character buildup as he proved to us by what you referred to as "he fell apart". It just shows you how much he truly cares for her but there's just nothing else that could have been done. He took responsibility by facing her and it was the price that he had to pay for his fault; the cross that he must now and will forever on carry.
You said it yourself, he's now not only abandoned her once but twice so what's the point of keeping a promise which has already been long broken?
I feel you bro and even if I myself truly feel sorry for her, that's just the way it goes sometimes. Remember, I just so recently lost a love-one...
Lol, but seriously, I do agree and am quite comfortable with Elen's chances in the finale. She very well deserves to find HAPPINESS that she even has yet to experience thus far in her life, or at least in her life since the beginning of the series; in which Cal already had found (2 years ago) with Reiji.
PS: Though I can't quite agree with your point of views, you're still as awesome as ever in handing out those very opinionated thoughts/words of yours. Guess who just rep'd you?

You so owe me a new keyboard...
Bad choice of words on my part perhaps. It's true that you can (finally) see his determination to do something apart from running and emoing. What I meant to say was that I fail to notice a steady and realistic process leading to him mustering all that resolve. The good and over-protective guy that he seems to be should have at least considered other options of dealing with Cal. This could very much be originating from my general dislike towards him but it simply seems he once again choose the only way he knew to deal with problems - shooting them dead. Problem is Cal should have been someone far more than just another mark for him (as in - deserving a different approach) considering her existence gave him a purpose and the desire to remain 'human' in the past.
He seems confident in being able to save Ein without killing her in the process though ... As dysfunctional as he may be and as strong his desire to sever Cal from the very same cruel world he experienced may have been I still believe he did gave up on her. Twice for that matter since assuming she died in that explosion two years back seemed premature to me as well. It's also a form of hypocrisy to desperately try to save one girl while another one (who received a similar promise) is suffering the same fate alone out there in no small part thanks to him.
It's true that his character evolved several times throughout the series but it just never seemed smooth and coherent to me making it hard to call it buildup. It's like he shifted from one mindstate to another without gathering much experience from them. Also - why did he assume there was nothing else he could have done ? He sure as hell is trying his best for Ein and she wasn't exactly the most flexible material to work with either. I'm fairly sure that the pacing of this final arc is largely at fault here and that the vn portrayed some mental struggle of his better but such as it is it just seems he assumed Drei to be a lost cause while having very little interaction with her.
Ein rejected his help several times in the past and was even 'dead' for a while and yet he clings to the promise he gave to her like there's no tomorrow. Either his giving little thought to all this or he's got some serious double standards.
Didn't comment on your loss since last week my hard drive decided it was a jolly good idea to crash along with the +300gb data on it...
Animes really do tend to kill off the most awesome characters to appease the mindless crowds don't they ? Takes quite some experience to appreciate uniqueness and memorability it seems ... Either that or we're not completely sane anymore.
On this we can agree. Provided it's gonna be a more selfish form of happiness rather than the one drawn from the fact that a loved one is safe and happy. For now she still bears a bit many of her doll-like features.
The world would be a boring ass place if everyone agreed with each other. No wars, serial murderers and all the other fun shit ... Don't spoil me too much though or I may end up writing these damn long, finger-straining posts more often.

Realistic process huh. Well, I can very much see where you're getting at it's just that this is one of those cases where there just wasn't enough episodes to work on with. They even had to squeeze in a few months worth of events in the 2nd OP sequence, from the time when Reiji and Ein were starting to live a peaceful life in Japan. Also, "dealing with problems by shooting 'em dead" is only to be expected of an assassin so there shouldn't be any surprise there. I would however, slightly agree that there's quite a bit of a contrast towards Reiji's character buildup during that particular decision of his but like I said, it was justifiable. We may have not seen it but certainly, he did have much time to think and have doubts, and question himself on what he must do to deal with Cal. He may have not been that decided yet until Mio's call, which should have given him an ultimatum in making a choice, learning that there's just about 2 hours to go before the arranged death match is to take place somewhere. Nonetheless (as you suggested), Cal should have received a rather very special treatment than just one bullet in the heart. -A couple more would have sufficed or even better if he had shot her right in the head.

I'd say that they were merely victims of a cruel twist of fate. He gave up rather easily yes but as I said in one of my earlier posts, he was in no position to do some sort of search and rescue operation, with Inferno right behind his tail looking to eliminate him. I believed you said something about his "animalistic survival instincts" which is in fact top notch, as that would also be the reason as to why Scythes took interest in him at the very beginning. His fault, maybe half of it yes, but could you really blame him if you were in his place? Who the hell would have thought that Cal was out buying some groceries at that time?!
Das wrote...
Spoiler:
Haven't played the game so I wouldn't know the difference. I suppose I've pretty much already given my thoughts/answers on this in my previous statements. Also, the difference between Elen's case in the past and Cal is quite marginally huge, given the situation they were all in, etc. He desperately did try to save Elen who was only being manipulated by Scythes back then. Cal meanwhile was not being controlled and was aiming to kill him, or Elen rather. Thus there's quite a bit of a dilemma compared to the last time when all he ever needed to achieve was to save someone. This time, he was forced to choose between saving someone or protecting someone (two very different things IMO); obviously, he picked the (easier) latter.
Das wrote...
Spoiler:
You hate his guts, period. Let's just put it this way, his first "connection" was with Elen so it's quite understandable if he weighs/prioritizes her more than just about anyone else. I'd say that he was very consistent in doing so even from the start.

She's definitely soften up by a lot more ways than one to say the least. My only hope is not to hear the proverbial "I love you", being her last words. Btw, I sure wouldn't mind a kissing scene.

It's in my nature to disagree with just about anything. Just don't be too conceited either. Responding to your posts is absolutely not an easy task.

Finally got around to see episode 25 and dang. Although it was obvious that someone had to bite the dust, it didn't really satisfy me, but the reasons are already mentioned in former replies.
It's also damn sad how they showed us a glimpse of an alternate world where they met up after the explosion and how everything was just fine. (Although I guess things didn't really worked out for Ein in that case, ah well.)
Although Scythe with his oil-girls seem to be heavily overpowered, I'm curious if Elen & Reiji can survive this. I'm really don't want a miserable ending...and a happy ending can never occur at this point since Cal died anyway, and they didn't paint it off in such a way where she might 'reappear' to surprise everyone.
Let's hope for the best.

Let me start off by saying that there were 3 anime endings this week that I was eagerly awaiting. Canaan's ending disappointed me quite a bit, Bakemonogatari's ending blew me away and Phantom's ending ... blew me away even more !
The fuck's with people on all them blogs shouting 'troll ending' and other shit !? This was fucking awesome !
Some general impressions before I proceed to the main dish.
Long story short - best damn BeeTrain show eva !
Was this even coherent ? I wrote it still fresh off the episode and without giving it much thought.
