Just got done with episode 3, and I'm glad that the vampires finally made their appearance. The Kirishiki family seems pretty interesting so far, but I'm mostly interested in Sunako. Her scene with Seishin was very spooky, and it was interesting to learn that the reason why the Kirishiki family came was because of his tales of the village. I was also taken by surprise when Sunako was able to tell that Seishin tried to commit suicide, so Seishin must either be a corrupt monk or is a monk in order to try to repent for his past sins. I'll have to keep a watch on those two...

As for the new characters this week, I really like Toru, but Masao's design is just so creepy, and he seems like such a complainer. Hopefully he won't be around too much, lol.

Tatsumi's designs are really interesting, but I hope that poor Toru isn't in trouble for inviting the servant over. Hopefully Natsuno will be able to protect him.

They even have him peeking out from behind an object like you normally see him. it's the scene near the middle when one of the local kids comes up and it centers to a picture of the newspaper he's holding.

Masao's character design was the most freaky thing in that episode. LOL.

Just watched both episodes (1 and 2). Frankly, I thought it was a boring series and I'd watch it for a snack. But sometimes I'm happy to be proven wrong. It got me hooked on it.

The OP sequence was also bizarre in a nice way, with a touch of BUCK-TICK.

i just cant get into this show, im trying to watch it but it takes me like a hour just to finish 1 episode, i keep stopping it then i do something else etc, it just dosent make me want to sit threw it.

Well, it was the same for me until Episode 4. Now I got interested again.

Well...episode 4 was certainly interesting.

I couldn't believe that the death toll is already up to 19 and counting, and I feel so bad for the hospital staff who are desperately trying to stop this crisis. It was interesting to learn that most of the victums died at night, however, which may mean that the vampires came back every night and gradually sucked them dry, which could be why their bodies would deteriorate within a few days.

I also thought that it was appropriate for Sunako to be so mature about death, since she can never in fact die. I also giggled slightly at her telling Seishin that she can't go out during the day because of a disease.

Megumi as a vampire was also very creepy, and the shot at the end of the episode, with her fangs almost into Toru's next was wild. I wonder why Megumi was the only one who was turned. Maybe the vampires are picky about who they turn? Or maybe only a certain type of person can become a vampire?


Guess we won't know the answers to these questions for awhile, but I'm eager to learn more.

Lol, I keep thinking that whatever is afflicting the village is painfully obvious. Two bite marks with blood loss? Durr, we're talking vampires here. Too bad the hospital staff don't know much about the occult, because it's so damn obvious if you take it outside the biological realm.

This anime series reminded me very strongly of Stephen King's novel "Salem's Lot", but with somewhat different settings and plot roads.

Salem's Lot had vampires, the Marsten House mansion, a doctor, a writer, and a Catholic priest, and Shiki has vampires, the Kanemasa mansion, a doctor, and a Buddhist priest who sidelines as a writer. Cool.

Upon further googling, it turned out that Fuyumi Ono intended this novel to be her homage to that King novel.

Back on. Episode 4 was a blast and a cliffhanger. And I see... does the Kirishiki family also provide their shiki with their apparel, like some sort of sponsor? I mean, Megumi now sports goth clothing.

Maybe. There is something about him that I can't quite figure out. Maybe he comes from a famous family of vampire hunters?

Well, episode 5 was full of twists and turns. First, I thought that the whole Megumi incident was just a dream, since Toru woke up without any bite marks on his next. However, then, out of the blue, Toru is dead, and we see a slightly extended shot of Megumi biting him. That totally caught me off guard, and I'm a little sad to see Toru go.

We also learned that most victims of the vampires quit their jobs right before they die. I wonder if that is the effects of the vampire's bite or their state of anemia?

The only thing that I didn't like about this episode was that their was too much Masao, but I was so glad that he got bit in the last scene, by the librarian who quit his job, nonetheless. This makes me think that it is a chain effect, and that the victim turns into a vampire temporarily, feeds and passes it on, and then dies. Also that wouldn't explain Megumi's case...

Well, here's hoping that episode 6 will show even more vampire action!

I just guessed that out of the blue. Since they got buried, their clothes should've been gone and besmirched. So I thought (or fantasized) that the Kirishiki family welcomes their "converts", then leads them to a dressing room for clothes and stylish looks. I'll be damned if I see Megumi change apparel by another episode.

And update... Megumi ain't full goth clothing. She looks like slightly goth but definitely a strong whiff of punk clothing.

As long as they don't sparkle and look shiny, they're fine.

On the episode... quite OK, but as you said, too much Masao. Quite a lot of twists and turns, which is good, keeps the watchers interested with every plot turn.

Hehe, thank ya. I've been trying to make an effort to do so this season, since the spring I was completely absent from the boards due to college stuff.

"Some traditions also hold that a vampire cannot enter a house unless invited by the owner, although after the first invitation they can come and go as they please."

Anyways, as for episode 6,

I was glad that things are finally being discovered by the villagers. I really felt for Toshio, since he is desperately trying to prevent any more people from dying, and to was interesting to see his background, and how passionate his family has been about being health care providers for the whole community. I loved the shot of Toshio after he talked to Natsuno about Megumi. I was glad that he finally realized the possibility of vampires. Speaking of which, Megumi was creepy herself in the intro of this episode.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Kaori and Akira next week, with their discovery of one of the dead villagers going into the castle. I guess that the vampires are trying to build some kind of following wherever they go, and then when they sucked the place dry, they move on. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Just got done watching episode 7, and I was glad to see the amount of plot progression that was made in this episode. E

ven though I dislike Masao, it was interesting to see his how he died, and how he began a vampire/Risen. Tasumi was a good guide in informing us a bit more about what has been going on, and it seems that the Risen are randomly selected, and not hand-picked like I previously thought. I also wonder why Tasumi can go against all of the normal vampire rules. Maybe you need to sample royalty or something for those powers?

As for Natsuno and the gang, I'm glad that they are taking the initiative to figure out what is going on in the village, even though Kaori is hesitant. I was also glad to see the doctor step it up this episode, and I can't wait for him to go toe-to-toe with the vampires. I'm guessing that maybe Seishin is skeptical to join him either because he doesn't believe Toshio, or that he maybe wants to become something paranormal himself. We shall see, won't we?
