Based on a manga that was written by Fuyumi Ono (who also wrote the original novel "Ghost Hunt") and was drawn by Ryu Fujisaki. The story revolves around an isolated mountain village, steeped in ancient traditions, whose population of 1,300 starts dying in droves due to mysterious causes. Eventually, it becomes clear that vampires are attacking the town. (During a fiercely hot summer in Sotoba, a peaceful and quiet village with a population of 1300 people, a series of bizarre deaths begin to occur. At the same time, a strange family moves into a long abandoned mansion in the region. Hospital dean Toshio Ozaki cannot figure out the cause of death in the deceased, initially suspecting an epidemic. As investigations continue between the hospital staff and the residents, it turns out that the village is being attacked by vampires.) I really had other plans but if I didn't know this place any better -- where the moeblobs are most openly accepted (just because they are, "moe") -- I think this one's got a much decent fighting chance (of being talked about) than "OokiFuri 2" or "Giant Killing" (screw "Major S6"). The news about it getting an anime adaptation couldn't have come at a much better time (after Umineko turned out to be one giant piece of shit!), though the actual product would likely not be up for until mid (summer) to late (fall) next year. There's no actual anime footage yet. It has now... Noitamina timeslot expands... WIN!

just wondering if this is true? i read somewhere that episode 22 was the last one?, with the final 2 episodes to be released on dvd only?? :-(

This is late of me to say, but I have only just watched the final episode.

All I can say that Shiki is up there at the top as one of my favourite series.

I seriously agree, this anime is really underrated, so few people are watching it... The musics are even beautiful. I've actually even started buying the manga.

Finished it the other day, was good! Disappointed at the lack of Tohru x Natsuno I'm finding on the net though. Hell, there isn't much fan stuff in general =/
