FAKKU Features Discussion & Brainstroming
I've been in touch with Jacob, and he has agreed that there has been something of a communication problem surrounding the site.
Right now Jacob's finalizing the store. He's also fixing those pesky bugs... and have you guys noticed that outages are a lot less frequent? He'll be taking further action on his own.
However by his suggestion I'm creating this thread to do our part in fixing the problem. The OP-Poll actually mainly covers things already on the official To-Do-List. It's your turn to give feedback on what you want the most.
This thread is for discussing what features FAKKU really needs, what would be useful and brainstorming how they could be implemented. This thead is not for just posting what features you want! It's for giving thought out feedback on what features would be really welcome and for coders to reflect on the difficulty of implementing specific features.
Both laymen and coders are welcome to voice their opinion!
Official planned features:
FAKKU! To-Do List
Some facts about FAKKU:
The site is running on native code, written in PHP.
In the past it used to run on phpBB. The later simply couldn't scale with the demand FAKKU was experiencing and was limiting development of new features. When this became apparent, custom code was written for the forums as it allowed integration with the rest of the site and easier development of new features.
Features already requested in other threads:
- Multi-tag Search - IMPLEMENTED!
- Tl;dr version: Most titles are not yet tagged! Feature won't make sense until they are.
Help by posting in the Missing Tags link below.
- Tl;dr version: Most titles are not yet tagged! Feature won't make sense until they are.
- Favorites menu - IMPLEMENTED! Look under My Account/Favorites!
- Putting videos in your Favorites - IMPLEMENTED!
- tl;dr version: FAKKU no longer hosts unlicensend videos since we've had a lot of trouble due people not following our guidelines. This feature may be implemented with our licensed videos.
Discussion of existing features:
- Problems with password reset
- tl;dr - This problems is tied in to FAKKU's e-mail features. - FIXED!
- Manga Section Error Reports
- Another discussion, this time about irregularities with artist names.
My usual disclaimer applies: This post is WIP (Work in Progress)!

I was thinking of a feature that allows you to see who have recently visited your profile, is that a valid feature which should be added?
Though I suppose it doesn't give a lot of convenience compared to the other suggestions.
I say add more videos because the video section will be down for a long time.

The tag search needs to happen imo, I hear the most calls/complaints calling for that.
Or some sort of advanced search function (with qualifiers like title, with tags, without tags, etc.); imo, that would help a lot to cut down "what manga is this" requests on the forums at least!

As I already wrote, right now the biggest obstacle is not coding, but work related. Most titles are simply not yet tagged! It makes little sense to code complex tag searching if you can only use it on a tiny portion of the site's content.
OTOH, complex search could be implemented on its own... and in fact *merely* implementing it should be trivial. Implementing it so it, *doesn't take the sight under* is not... complex search can be *very* resource intensive, and if you want to make it robust it'll need a significant backend dedicated to it.

-3- The biggest peeve for me atm is I have no way to know which aren't tagged.
You can't search for untagged, so I just have to use the random method.

I'd like to see a more versitile favorites piece. some way to sort and/or arranre them myself. an option of arranging them this way.
also more options to be favorited; like artist/circle, series, tags, etc..
more info than just the first thumbnail img too. maybe mouse over shows more than just title, like tags or artist/circle name.

This is where multiple helpers are needed. Just a few taggers won't be enough. Also, we need helpers that are somewhat fluent in Japanese, because lack of understanding of the language prevents us from properly tagging a lot of the untranslated ones.
Also, giz, ever tried searching by artist? I go through each artist one by one, page by page.

I do search by artist. And genre, and translator, and series.
But tagging is so randomly done on older manga that there's no sure or best pattern to follow; having a way to just view all manga without tags as a list would be more of a help.
Ah, nvm. Jake has given me a way to check for manga lacking tags. This will help.
But OT: yes, multi tag search.

@ gizgal:
try- sort by... newest(or english), hit last button, start at the begining and work your way to the newest. i think that's how Rise-chan was doing it. that way you cover all releases.

Me? I hit the Unknown artists page and did my work from there and covered all the pages. Though some of them still are "unknown aritsts" to even me.
But going to the Newest manga list is something I used to do for getting the mangas I'd miss, yes.. I used to download every single mangas at one point of time. Regardless of which manga it'd be lol.

A "subscribe" feature for series, artists, and tags would be great. I missed an update to my favorite series by TWO WHOLE DAYS! xD

I think the stability of the site is what's important. Everything else can be built on top of that. What's the point on having a kickass house when the foundation is all shaky?

I vote for "Tag Search" because it will be useful, but apparently there thousands of mangas that are untagged.
This site has a lot to work on, and I know it's in progress.
But for short term I'd say Multi-tag search.

i have a bit of knowledge of coding. I have friends who are more skilled than i am. so i and my friend (provided he's not as lazy as he is currently) might be able to help a bit. besides checking i probably won't be able to do much until i learn the syntax.
edit: a very long time -.-

List updated and added a pair of new suggestions (Read Later button, grouping titles by volume).

[color=#2e1a6b]I'm not sure what constitutes as a needed feature, but there are 2 small ones that I think would be very helpful:
I think a mark-as-read feature should be implemented. I think it could be implemented together with the plan-to-read feature. The main benefits of a mark as read feature would be:
- You could type "unread" along with other tags, and the search results will only display manga that you haven't read, and contains those tags.
- If you're trying to find a manga you've read before, you could type "read" in the searchbar, and you'd be able to easily find it
- It would help you remember what you've read and what you haven't, so that you don't start reading it and say "oh yeah, I've already read this"
The other feature that should be implemented is a method to sort the search results. Preferably something like this

I am not very IT-savvy, but I voted for stability.
From a business perspective, the foundations of any organisation (in this case, Fakku) must be solid before it can proceed to improve or expand further. Of course, more hentai material will attract visitors to the site, but may backfire if these hentai material cannot be viewed nor accessed.

I just finished a pretty awesome upgrade to all of our backend code, this won't be very noticeable to you (the user) but it is awesome for me. It will make adding new content and new features significantly easier.
