Anyone want to elaborate on WHY they think this movie's going to suck (especially considering the good comics-to-movie adaptations lately, not to mention the Speed Racer movie which is widely believed to be excellent)?

Dragonball has been announced as a planned trilogy with Marsters already signed up for two sequels. Plans for filming the sequel is set for 2009 with a possible 2011 release.

i mean look at this http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/boxoffice/ it has done worse then what happens in vegas. it did 22 million its first week when it had nothing big opening with it. critics gave it an average of C and users gave it an average of B- on its yahoo page. not quite excellent.
as far as dragonball Im curious to see what Spike from buffy the vampire looks like as King picollo.

Anyways, the above statement is false, and based out of ignorance. Why? Because I have given no reason as to why this live-action Dragonball movie will fail. NOR HAVE ANY OF YOU.
At this point, it looks to me as if they're taking Dragonball and making it less "OVER 900000000!!/I'MA CHARGIN' MAH LAZAH!!!" styled and more Forbidden Kingdom-like. And this is a good thing. A VERY good thing. Because, sooner or later, we all have to admit to ourselves: Dragonball/Z/GT sucked. But it was so cool that we didn't care. Sub-par plot, shallow and static characters (with the exception of Vegeta, the only character that actually developed), and endless repitition. This seemingly epic series is just an amalgamation of these three in just the right way to make something completely devoid of depth entertaining.
Now, keep in mind that these are by television-show standards, where it is much harder to stretch out a story to encompass endless hours of screentime without putting in endless filler (like the 3 or 4 episode long 5-minute battle on Namek). Compressing these long and derivative stories into movies will make something entirely different, and quite possibly superior to the original.
Of course, since it seems that so few of you can actually read, this comment will be ignored and followed with 40 more people saying "OMG EPIC FAILZ!!" or something of the sort. But for those few that DO read...think hard on it. This movie could be something amazing, if done right.
Though I may just be advocating it because the main actor is both Canadian and from my province. :D
