Password Reset

Looking at the bank example, sure perhaps the guy may have been arrested. However due to his efforts, the bank may change the way they handle security, and thus when a true threat comes along, they will be able to deal with it. Had that person not done so, then a real robber could have made away with everyone's money. That shouldn't protect him arrest. At all.

Unless you're Sony, of course. :P

I was just checking out the Writing section as usual after I got back from work when I noticed I couldn't post a single damn thing! Then I noticed I wasn't logged in (My browser sets it to auto login.) When I logged in,I freaked out a 3rd time when it asked me to do a password reset.

Glad fakku is fine, good job on getting fakku back on track. I think password reset is a wise decision.

Sorry to hear about the whole breaking in thing, although it's annoying it can sometimes be a good thing to get exposed so you know what is wrong to improve security and things over all in general. I don't condone whoever did what they did but at least they didn't do anything too malicious (I hope). Anyway, good shit on keeping the website strong and up and running.

Oh hey! Look at that! An immediate response, reasonable explanation, and an effort to better security and work with your members.
...Sony? Your response?
SONY: "Wh-what?! We don't-! I mean-! ...But if we say anything now then the angry people will be mad at us and make us cry! We-We'll just wait a week. Or month. Or year. Maybe they'll drop dead before we give our response and do something, that way we won't have to be in trouble..."
Good job, mate.

Didnt expect this to turn up so soon, but at least he waited till after christmas to start trouble. Although I personally disagree with the method, the message was clearly received and actions for further prevention were taken. Loopholes like this exist everywhere, which is why digital protection is such a growing field of computer science. Just remember to save records of your passwords, preferrably written and not on your pc., and to always create them in difficult and random patterns to prevent scripts from reversing them.

Though all is well and good here, what the hacker(s) did, however good his intentions were, was BREAK THE LAW.
Understandable that some would sympathize with the hacker, but keep in mind that the end doesn't justify the means. While he only intended to make public a problem, his ACTIONS are what have a bigger effect. To what someone else said about going to jail for hacking; yes, the hacker CAN go to jail for a long time for doing what they did, (several members of Anonymous have been arrested in the US in recent months and are awaiting trial). Of course, it's up to Jacob if he wants to notify authorities of what happened. Honestly, he should. Letting the hacker run about unchecked poses greater risk to other sites. There is no guarantee that he won't do what he did here to another site, or do worse here.
Hopefully, things can quiet down a little, but in the near future Jacob, you should at least lets us know if a problem with security comes up. The last thing you want to do is keep your users in the dark about a problem that can become more than a headache if left unchecked.

Password changed, but something peculiar happened to my account... You see, I have over 600 mangas in my favorites list and I regularly check it so I can backtrack a few mangas depending on my mood. Anyway, the manga "Don't Let Your Wife Attend Her Class Reunion" was added to my list, and I don't remember pressing 'add to faves'... So far, nothing was missing on my list, but somehow it still bothers me. O_O

I'm glad all that ruckus didn't happen while I was online or else I'd panic like hell.
Can't see any reason why someone would cause trouble here since Jacob and the rest of the Fakku team are doing their job pretty well. Anyway, I hope everything's fine now.
