Appreciate the update, Jacob. Helps us know something's moving and keeps us from guessing when the next update will be.

Why does every single VN that I look forward to playing end up being a dumpster fire of a release?

What a terrible hobby I've picked... 😓

I'm curious what other VNs you're talking about. Don't keep my finger on the pulse of the VN scene so I'd like to know what shit's happening or things to look out for.

Basically if the Publisher is Sekai Project (denpasoft), assume it will have issues and/or avoid it altogether. Kind of hypocritical coming from me though, seeing as how despite having issues with them in the past, here I am after impulse buying Maitetsu before even checking who published it / any known issues.

Honestly though? I own a bunch of their titles and haven't had any game related issues outside a phantom text bug in KaraKara, missing Dangopedia entry in Clannad (iirc, was physical edition, not sure if fixed on steam), inconsistent localization in World End Economica between Vol. 1 and the rest (as well as working backwards in the trilogy from the newest game in adding HD Assets, meaning the first game didn't get upgraded graphics until years after the kickstarter), losing the original app id for Muv-Luv on steam breaking hours played and purchases for all owners (not Sekai Project's fault, that honor goes to âge and Degica, but they are the publisher now), and I guess Maitestsu now. Shit though, that all looks bad listed out. But uh, outside of that, everything else has been solid. Especially Nekopara and Clannad.

To be honest Sekai Project is probably on the better side of Visual Novel publishers in the west. They actually try to frequently release new games and have decent translations as far as I can tell. Games like maitetsu wouldn’t even see the light of day without them.

If they're on the better side of publishing (which they aren't, they are one of, if not the worst one) then as a community We have accepted mediocrity.

We don't raise enough a issue with these devs and We continuously purchase their faulty products so of course they're going to make no effort to do better time and time again. Maitetsu and NekoPara are all I own from Sekai and NekoPara is not directly handled by Sekai in the first place. The fan patches of games have a better track record, like Grisaia which Sekai butchered at release and took a while to fix, meanwhile their was already a full working fan versions for a couple years before the Sekai release.
