Depending on their licensing agreement, Sekai may absolutely be required to go through Lose for things like the 18+ common route assets, script changes, or general bug fixes. Other of JAST's Nitroplus titles like Sumaga and Django are held up because Nitroplus does not want to expend programming resources on these titles in favor of other more promising games (their own and JAST's). Another example includes Hemoimo which was rescued from the jaws of SakuraGame by Fakku in December 2017 and would "soon be released." In May, the translator of Hemoimo revealed that they are still waiting on the beta build from the Japanese developer.

Yes, other visual novel publishers have been able to do their own in house engine work (Doddler's blog posts on his Unity ports of Mangagamer's Navel games are an interesting read), but this is based on what their contract allows and what in house resources they have, if any.

While we don't have the actual contract in front of us, Dovac, Sekai Project's ex-CEO who was assigned to this game, wrote in a statement posted on Google Drive, "Our agreement with the developers is that we do not touch any of the game and only with the text related to the English translation." Whether or not you believe him is up to you, but as I've pointed out above, this is not an uncommon thing in contracts with Japanese VN companies.

Regarding your last comment, the use of the console non-18+ assets may still produce bugs like the removed voice lines/untranslated text you referenced if they were introduced in the translated scripts that were replaced by Sekai Project. A simple cut and past or a bad find/replace pattern could delete or remove the tag needed to play a voice file.

I just think its funny in the post Dovac apologized to FAKKU but not the fans who had been waiting on this game for 3 years. That says a lot about them IMO, now so far as if I believe them or not, maybe. The sad truth of it is though that Dovac should've never QA'd a game the he had no interest in and didn't care about. It was carelessness from Sekai that lead to this in the first place.

Here's the thing though. We don't WANT them to change anything, we want a faithful translation of the unedited Japanese version. If what you say is true, then they not only are allowed to fix this - they are even required to, because by censoring something they modified more than they were supposed to.

In the long run, it is still Sekai's fault for delivering such a messed up product and any amount of blame people want to throw at the original developers I will completely ignore. I'll continue to believe that Sekai is lying about having to contact the devs until I'm proven otherwise, Sekai has utterly destroyed their reputation in My eyes, and that especially comes from the fact that the main man in charge of this "dovac" is such a salty little girl about any project that fans aren't happy with.

I would still gladly fund projects where I feel that the passion is high. However I will no longer be buying from Sekai, when this is fixed, it will be the last game I purchase from them.

Honestly, I think you should reconsider that. There's a fairly large number of good titles they've put out. Given you're on Fakku, you should definitely look into the Nekopara series at least (top quality pr0n :P), if not Clannad (though that might be divisive). Not deep into the Sekai Project Drama, but from what I gather it's mostly related to kickstarter complaints (delays, overpromising, giving higher priority to newer projects over extremely old ones). Had complaints with the Clannad kickstarter, but their translations and releases seem fine for the most part.

The impression I got was that they used the all-ages version given to them by Lose and just messed up the patch. Supposedly the all-ages version has content not in the original, so they didn't intentionally censor, just messed up putting it back in.

The thing is that they promised an unedited 18+ release. None of the complaints are about the Steam version, which was never meant to be uncut and therefore delivered exactly what was promised. It's about the R18 version, which ALSO uses the All Ages one.

(On another note, I think it's stupid that there even is an all ages version for a game like this.... but that's a different matter and not Sekai's fault.)

There wasn't even an original "all-ages" version announced until last year, Lose didn't have an all-ages version at all, not until recently, the only one is the "Pure-Station" release which will probably be on PC as well, but the fact that the game was a Loli Eroge should have made them realize that an all-ages release would not be what everyone focused on. I feel like I just rambled on, but the point is Sekai could not have had an all-ages version to work with for nearly three years, and if they did work with an all-ages version then they shouldn't have announced the project so long ago when there was none.

(Point is the all-ages version of Maitetsu is still not released yet, and Sekai could not have had that version to work with for all this time.)

After that SP has literally stalled the progress as 99% for 3 going 4 years now. Same thing happened again with Maitetsu back in 2016 when we released a common route patch. Immediate cease and desist. They go as far as legal actions to stop fan translations.

Damn, looked up Tenshin Ranman and didn't realize it was Yuzusoft. That definitely sucks butt. Sorry man, don't know about the cease and desists there, but they do seem somewhat amiable to fan translations considering how the people that worked on the Dracu Riot fan translation seem to be working with Sekai Project on the English release. From what I can tell, Tenshin Ranman doesn't run on Windows 10 so that might be holding things up. I definitely understand being pissed off there though. Reminds me of how the people working on the Little Busters fan translation quit working on the Ecstacy patch because of an impending English release and were able to work on the official English version. But Ecstacy is still going to remain untranslated and not available for purchase....

I guess we won't know for sure until the Pure-Station version is released, but I imagine there's a good chance the PC and PS4 version will be identical outside of the PSVR tie-in. The google doc from Dovac already mentions they were working from the console branch, so I think the all-ages version they were working on was directly from Lose. Seeing as how the PS4 version releases in less than two weeks, I imagine the voiced lines and re-written scenes were done awhile ago and the majority of the time was spent developing for the PS4 version. As for releasing Pure-Station on PC, the version on steam already has Japanese language support so it really does depend on whether it has other extra content. VNDB says Monobeno never got an all-ages version on PC though, so who knows.

I was hoping that SP would handle Maitetsu well so that similar VNs would get a shot at localization. Clearly that didn't work out, but at least some skillful fans are devoted enough to fix their problems for them.

I didn't buy Maitetsu to support SP, I did it to support Lose.

The Chinese version of Monobeno that's on Steam can supposedly be played in Japanese, so in a sense it is a PC version of the all-ages version; though given that you can buy Monobeno and then Happy End separately as a DLC, I'm guessing it's not exactly the same version as the Vita Pure Smile.

Anyway, still checking this thread every day for an announcement that the Maitetsu patch has been fixed. Come on Fakku, I want to give you my money, so please allow me to do so.
