Maitetsu Fixes and Updates

First off, it's important to note that FAKKU is not the publisher or developer of this game, we are only the distributor (like Steam). That means we don't have the power, or ability, to fix issues when they arise in games we haven't published ourselves. Such is the case with Maitetsu, we've only been able to help move things along.
In recent weeks, there has been a lot of discussion and concern from the community regarding the 18+ release of Maitetsu published by Denpasoft and made available on FAKKU. On our end, this time was spent investigating the situation, discussing solutions with both Denpasoft and Lose (the original Japanese developer), and having the developer implement those solutions. In this post we will cover what has been changed with this update, what has not been changed, and what happened.
That said, we've updated the downloads for Maitetsu and the Maitetsu (18+ DLC) to include the latest updates and bug fixes found below. If you downloaded the game before today, July 31st 2018, you should re-download it now to get the latest version.
What has changed
Below is a list of what has been changed/fixed in this update.

Below is a list of what has not changed and the reasons why. We were told by Denpasoft that this is a complete list of the remaining differences between the Japanese edition and the now updated English release. I have provided screenshots showing the differences between both versions.
What happened
Following the release of Maitetsu, a number of users reported issues with Maitetsu and the Maitetsu (18+ DLC). The reports showed comparisons between the original Japanese release vs the localized 18+ release. In these comparisons, a number of differences were shown, such as what appeared to be the All-Ages assets being displayed instead of the 18+ assets from the original Japanese release. While all hentai scenes in the game appeared to be completely fine, there were reports of some 18+ assets and voice lines missing from the game.
We immediately reached out to Denpasoft to see if they had any knowledge regarding these reported issues. Denpasoft began investigating the issues to determine what went wrong and within 24 hours they were able to reproduce the problems on their end. It appeared as though the build they were given had been created using the consumer version (All-Ages) as a base. The All-Ages version is a modified version of the game to comply with non-18+ platform regulations (like Steam). During development, the consumer version (All-Ages) was used as a base to provide users with the extra content that had been added to the game. The developers then patched on top of that to re-add in the 18+ scenes which led to the problems.
All parties involved met in-person during Anime Expo 2018 to further discuss what could be done to solve this for everyone. The publisher informed us that some aspects could be changed and others would not be. They expanded on this, explaining that the version we were given is how the developer Lose intends the game to be in their upcoming re-release in Japan (this re-release has not yet been announced). The Japanese edition of the game will be updated to match the English edition, including the above changes.
Over the past few weeks Denpasoft has been working with Lose to create a patch for the approved changes, as well as fixing all bugs that had been discovered. We received this patch and have since updated both the Maitetsu and the Maitetsu (18+ DLC).
Final statements
Ultimately, the remaining differences were decided by Lose, the creator of Maitetsu. After talking with Denpasoft at length, I trust that they had no ill intentions behind these changes, rather it was something specifically requested and forced on them by the creator of the game. I’d like to thank Denpasoft for their hard work in dealing with this situation, and being proactive in trying to find a solution in a timely manner that benefited both the users and the original developer.
Maitetsu is still a wonderful game with almost 50 hours of gameplay and beautifully animated hentai scenes. We at FAKKU pride ourselves on uncensored and uncut content, wanting only the highest of quality for our users. We understand that this release did not meet those expectations. As always, we will be providing full refunds on all purchases of the game if anyone is not satisfied, and we have removed the terminology of the release being “uncut” from our pages as to not cause confusion for users.
We’d like to thank everyone for their patience regarding this situation and hope you will still enjoy Maitetsu in its current form.

- Upskirt CG restored.
- Hachiroku in panties restored.
- Preview thumbnails have been updated to reflect restored CGs.

- Memory leak issues causing random crashes have been fixed.
- Various other small bugs related to tips & backlog have been fixed.

Really looks like a great game, but I can't support these changes. If the Japanese developer doesn't think we can handle the content, why allow it to be released at all? Do they really think the removal of a few nipples is going to satisfy anyone? The haters will still hate the game for what it is, and they will have alienated everyone else...
I'm glad they allowed some of the CG to be restored, but sadly I won't be buying this game as things stand today. Such unnecessary censorship leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.

The fan patch had already restored these, so I will just wait for that patch to be completed I guess and thank Denpa for nothing as usual.

That's actually super fucking disappointing. So in short, even the previously advertised fully uncensored adult version is now censored and will remain as such. What's the point in even buying it then?

Hrmmm ~ So basically Sekai Project's "fix" is nearly a carbon copy of a very nice gentleman's unofficial restoration patch (which I am going to bet is not a coincidence) ~ Needless to say, I will take this as a lesson learned and withhold from supporting Sekai Project (or Loose, since I don't buy that explanation for a second) in the future.

We even had a censored tag on the content page itself.

Ridiculous by Lose and Denpasoft. I hope no one continues to support these companies if they think this is acceptable.

While this is incredibly disappointing, I'm mostly angry about the fact that Denpasoft/Sekai Project neglected to inform about this censorship. I'm sure fans will patch the nipples back in, but this has severely damaged my already low opinion of them.

What about the text descriptions and character reactions in these scenes? Does the scene read as if the nipples are showing in the:
- JP adult version
- JP non-adult version
- ENG adult version

I'm not talking about mosaics. I'm talking about we now have censored nipples and bath sprites. That's not an uncensored release, its a censored one. Additionally I surely hope someone mentioned that the audience intended for this game does not desire the game to be censored and that Lose is making an incredibly stupid decision by doing so.

Censorship should always be disclosed, even if they were forced to do it.

Total bummer. The game looks fantastic, but this sort of censorship just really gets under my skin. Unfortunately, I think I'll have to pass on this one.

My understanding is that the text is unchanged and same between all versions. In fact, the scenes were written and characters spoke as if they were clothed or all had towels on, so the original version's art actually differed from the text and voice. I imagine that's part of the reason for this version being considered definitive.

I can understand that, but the extra steam is just dumb. I mean the game has fully H-Scenes but we have to cover them up in the common route with steam? Makes no sense at all.

Wow, that is super depressing. Was so excited for this game when I saw it at a Denpasoft panel last year, and when I found out Fakku was distributing it, was super hopeful. Held off on getting it after the bugs were discovered, and now this. Although it seems the VN / eroge audience has been slowly getting more good content in the states, stuff like this keeps happening, with both console and PC translations. So sad, that we, as an audience apparently can't be trusted to decide on what content we want to consume. Hopefully one day, we'll get a quality loli VN brought over properly, but it seems not soon.

I'm also considering this as a very poor solution to the whole situation. But I can see from the wording of the original post, that you don't really support the decision "forced upon by the original developers".
This is actually kind of saddening, because its not really clear why they had to do this in the first place. They put out a version which was definitely changed so people will complain without a doubt. People hate censorship and even more in content that is supposed to be for adults and is also advertised as such. This leads infallibly to alienating a lot of users and a crash in sales. I'm very sure that japanese developers, which are currently in the crisis of their eroge-lifetime, could save their industry and their sales by just adapting to what the audience wants. People voice complaints for every game, not because they are spoiled, but because they feel treated wrongly by the people who "vouch" to bring the games over here. We are not solely paying for a game here. We are paying for service and that the games come here unharmed. I'm really not sure what the message is supposed to be if people do these kind of censorships? Are they indicating we have to be pirates if we want the real stuff? Or that we should order from their country and run into customs-problems? What is their business model supposed to be?
I'm sure japanese companies have not yet found their way into our market and if they don't slowly start to assimilate I'm sure it will take years upon years until they understood it. Customer satisfaction is key over here.

Though I think both Lose and Denpa have done a poor job with this whole ordeal. I would like to thank Jacob and the whole Fakku team. It's very likely without them we would've not gotten an 18+ release of any sort for even fans to patch. I mean Denpa doesn't even have their name on it on this site, so thank you folks I hope you'll take a chance on another loli VN down the road from a better developer that isn't so strict.

So can we still ask for a refund now that we finally have an answer on what the "solution" is going forward? I'm not going to support this.
And also, I'm extremely disappointed, but not surprised, that to this day there is still no mention of any of this, not even a link, on the store page proper. It screams shady, that you want to hide that any of this is happening from people who don't frequent the forum to continue getting sales.

As someone who's a bit of a "train" enthusiast, I'm disappointed by this news considering I was thinking of getting this until I heard the initial controversy. I wonder how the upcoming Japanese re-release that this altered version is supposedly based on will be received in Japan.
Either way, I hope this release helps lay down the tracks for other releases featuring "trains" on FAKKU.
