not too far o: he wasn't the first to discover a planet, but like roomy said, he observed and studied the sky very intently, discovering many things in that pursuit. (among other things, he discovered the largest of jupiter's four moons)there are a number of disciplines under planetary science, would my adorable students like to go over some of them, talk about any planets in specific, or something else? *^*
Aih aih, learned something new ono~
Even so I know that the sun is not considered as a planet! The sun is considered as a star -nodnod-
hmm specific...I always was wondering why the saturn has a ring around itself '~'
EDIT: And why only saturn~

very good! o:
as for your question...
there is no confirmed, solid reason that's been discovered as to why saturn has its rings. (at least that i'm aware of, maybe someone else is?)
the most widely-accepted speculation is this, however:
- saturn has collected a large amount of dust, ice, all kinds of stuff, that are currently trapped in its gravity. being so large, its pull is crazy strong, able to pull in debris from space at a scary range. its large amount of moons (at least in the sixties, concerning numbers) also pull in more particles as well! how the ring started around saturn is mostly only speculated over, too. @ u @ hopefully we get to learn more and more...
and actually, all gas giants have rings! they're just not as noticeable or as large as saturn's beautiful trademarks, is all.

Spoiler:
Sorry for the delay :x don´t feel well.
I understand, oh and yes it has more than one ring I forgot about that.
It kinda gets special and cute with those rings among the other planets heh~
Back then my old physics teacher said mankind will never be able to visit other planets ono

aw, don't be sorry! i'm not either... you should rest and feel better soon, okie?
>u< hehe
wot. l-lol

Because as fascinating as astronomy and the study of space itself is, this is still astro-PHYSICS. Meaning, angles, numbers, and all that shit.
Christ... midterm in less than 3 hours... =-=

hehehe. i'm not good with numbers, which is one of the reasons i'm not studying space for a living. //n//
good luck on your midterm!!

[align=justify][color=green][font=verdana]Hmm, this seems like an interesting topic of discussion. I think... I think that I am right in saying that Uranus' axis is actually sideways, not that the rings are "vertical". The little picture made me think of that.
But, now that I think about it... it makes sense. A planet spins on its axis, therefore it makes sense for the rings to "form" around their "waist".
Anywho... stars and planets. Woo.

...and... how do you ever verify whatever you learn in that astronomy without 'all that shit'?

Define "verify".

Experiments.*shrugs*
I'm not one to know about or care for the derivations and verifications of things, really. My passion now lies in music and, to a lesser extent, statistics. I'll collect the data and theorize, you do your physics and see if it's confirmed lol.

Collecting data and theorizing are part of the physics. Any science needs nature to keep it on track.
Unless if you recognize bullshit like astrology as part of astronomy, in which case I'm done talking.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL-no. I'm not superstitious.
No, more like, surveys and samples, like in statistics. Physics doesn't interest me anymore. Not kinetics, not fluid motion, not angles, nothing. Same with math, though I blame my disinterest in it now on calculus. Haven't tried university level chem yet, so no opinion as of yet.
