So I've read through the first 6 pages of comments and most of the posts are split between "fuck you Fakku" and "we get it."

So here are my thoughts on the matter.

Even though I've been aware of the coming changes, I was still surprised to find out my favorites collection had been trimmed down so much (wish I had exported it beforehand!). Yes, it (really) sucks, and yes, I can see how a lot of people would feel pissed by it.

However!

I'm just glad that Fakku was up-front about it (literally, there've been multiple posts on the front page), and that they didn't try and cheat by paywalling everything, including the pirated stuff. Speaking for myself, I really hate it when sites paywall stuff they've pirated. If you're into JAV, then you know what I'm talking about.

Likewise, yeah, right now the subscription cost does seem a bit high compared to other online services (my RL gym membership is actually cheaper), but it's not like Jacob and crew are doing this out of greed. Server costs, licensing costs, translation costs... that sounds like it'll all add up very quickly. And I highly doubt anyone at Fakku HQ is driving around in a Ferrari (yet?).

And say what you will about the pricing of their subscription costs, but can you say that the quality has been lacking in anyway? How many people who have vowed never to come back will go on and (gladly?) pirate Fakku's releases on other sites?

So all I say is this: try and give it some time. Fakku has taken a very risky but bold move to turn the site (now business) into something that will only help hentai in the west, not harm it. Judging from the 11 physical releases I own and having been a member for the past 4 months, I think they're on the right track. There are things I definitely don't like (still can't download the mags... why?), but I'm willing to wait and see how things evolve.

And hell, if their success convinces more hentai companies to start up, then all the better!

I'm just hoping that by helping to put more money into the pockets of hentai mangaka I like, be it Homunculus, Hanaharu Naruco, Kisaragi Gunma, or whoever, that they'll continue to put out new releases.

yeah i honestly agree in this sense its a pricey endeavor and also i would love to be able to download the magazines. i mean every porn site does that why not let us for as much as we pay

I honestly am really excited for this move. Its a smart decision, business wise. while things are a little tight for me at the moment (saving for a wedding and paying off a couple credit cards) you can look forward to my subscription in a few months!

I do hope that enough people come around and do continue to support you as well.

Just want to say thanks for 6 year of enjoyment but because of this Fakku has lost me as a user. I can't afford or would I ever play for this type of content. Mainly because I don't want the paper tail or anyone know I look that hentai. I'm very sadden by this because Fakku was my most favorite site to visit but know I'm force to go somewhere else. Thanks for all the enjoyment and good luck.

Hey Jacob,

Thanks for explaining everything. I totally understand (despite pirating almost everything else lol). But I think with something like hentai, these artists will actually be hurt by pirating (unlike big blockbuster movies and the actors that star in them).

I've been putting off a subscription for a while because of the price, although I noticed that the issues with such good quality were the ones I needed a subscription for. I was tempted for so long, but especially now after seeing this post, I want to help support.

I can only echo others' sentiments about possibly lowering the price or having a different payment plan based on how long we subscribe. Free trials would also be cool, but maybe not pull a Spotify and let users who have already been here also get one month free.

Thanks again and I guess I'm paying for good fap material now lolz

I've enjoyed reading from this site for so long and it was upsetting seeing some of my favorite authors' work fall under subscribers only territory, but I do want to support the Fakku team for having a great website. Hope to see even more growth in the future.

I'm perfectly fine with this approach. I find FAKKU subscription quite satisfying ever since I subscribed. All the more if this gives way to more works.

Quick question on my side. What about doujins that are derived from existing Anime/Manga/VN series? Let's say DL Action, which are mostly derived from existing other licensed work like Oreimo, ToAru, Kancolle etc. Are you gonna try getting those or are they far more complicated things to add or simply impossible?

Hey, you were talking earlier about PayPal not being for subscriptions. I think an easy way to get PayPal available is to create your own Fakkucoin or something like that which can be used to purchase books or subscription. And these coins can be discounted at higher purchases. So if I wanted say 5 books, I could purchase them for the price of 4 using the coins.

Just food for thought.

It's in a legal grey area in Japan as is, probably impossible to legally host them since it'll anger both Japanese rights holders as well as any US based companies that have licensed the franchises, as I understand it anyway. It's mostly just something that the bigger companies turn a blind eye to, but that won't apply to Fakku when they've become a legitimate business now.

That's a very obvious loophole that I doubt they're going to miss or tolerate, and it's not something a legitimate business should be trying to do either. If Fakku wants to be above board and respected by other companies, they shouldn't try anything like that.

There more a chance paypal would ban us from using it for non digital items.

I knew about this move, but I'm still not at all keen at putting money on a subscription. I will only spend money on permanent manga titles I can KEEP. I absolutely LOATHE subscriptions except for my Anti Virus, Pokémon bank, and FFXI subscription.

Subscription only is equal to having leeches on you that only suck money from your wallet. If you get too many of them to too many different sites, you'll be bled dry.

As I mentioned before, it would be helpful that for those of us who have bought titles from you, to have access to the "subscription only" titles for a period of time for purchasing xx amount of non-subscription products from your store. Plus there needs to be better "sample" views to find out if we even want to purchase a particular book from here.

It was a little jarring not being able to come to FAKKU and spend some quality hand time with some free content, but i'm OK with that.

I've been with FAKKU since pretty much the beginning, actually helped with the scanlations(black bar-b-gone no longer needed :D) for the original "official" scanlations back in the day and another group later. Eventually due to life getting in the way I became a super lurker, but chose to lurk at FAKKU with my limited time because I liked what FAKKU had and would become. When FAKKU released it's first book it was amazing to me to see just how far this industry had come in the US. And then the magazines hit and it was even better. All the hard work scanlation teams and fans put in over the years might actually pay off. The Japanese companies might actually take us seriously and, as Jacob put it, not think of us as just pirates. As much as it may suck, removing the unlicensed content was a needed sacrifice to get that kind of recognition.

Much like how I feel the anime industry has really taken off the last several years since Crunchyroll and the like. I was huge into the fansub scene years ago, but as more and more new content fresh out of Japan became available though legal channels that support the original creators/companies I subscribed to Crunchyroll and never looked back. That's exactly what I'll do to support FAKKU when I can afford to. I may have raised a fuss over the lack of ANY free options, but it's already been stated that it's in the works.

wow been here since almost the start. You guys just committed suicide.
Thanks for deleting everything off my favorite list btw.
Already was using this site less and less since 90%+ of new things were for sub members only.
Alot of other sites got the prem stuff you guys post & other people will find them.
Was nice while it lasted.

Unless FAKKU put a paywall on the forums (which they actually did to one, technically created it to be so, but you get my point), I will be here for a long time to come.

A long time ago in a comment section of a hentai, one user wrote "Came for the hentai, stayed for the forums." And that is what happened to me. Enjoyable people come to this site, besides the asses from IB, and I can have enjoyable conversations with them. I had fun reading hentai, and some even more when I read the comments, then some more with the forums.

Subscriptions are another story though. I have been thinking about it very seriously, but I haven't subscribed because it still lacks some options I expect to have, this being a digital site. First, what if I only want to subscribe to a certain artist? Or for certain things (tags)? Or for certain amount of time? What if I only to read that particular chapter? I know this is a technical issue relatively difficult to figure out for a newly established business, but you guys are a business now, so that's no excuse. I have bought myself a physical copy of the books and I can say for confidence I know how serious you guys are. I want to support you, and I will when I see whether you guys are capable of handling it.

Until then, hope all is well for FAKKU. It was a joy to see the site evolving all these years, and it would be heart-breaking for me to say goodbye.

Hey Jacob.

This might sound dumb, but you could try doing something like charging based on the tags you favorite. Allow me to elaborate: you set up something where you can only get content that contains tags they have favorited and they pay based on the amount of tags. Here is an example: if a user only views content of two tags, per se, they could pay less and you would get money. Just get rid of the uncensored tag to not get trapped in any exploits; and, since it is a subscription, the viewers know that the material is uncensored. If a views has so many tags that the price would be unreasonable, then they would just pay the normal subscription fee. This way you don't miss out on sales because viewers choose to not pay for the content since they don't want to pay for a service that would not cater to their preferences.

I will ultimately pay for a subscription, but one of my favorite tags, monster girl, isn't getting much love.

I really want FAKKU! to succeed, and I would hate for you guys to not make crazy amounts of money because of missed sales.

I have used FAKKU! since 2009 and I do plan to support you by subscribing and I hope that my ideas can can provide some sort of help.
I wish you all success.

Well, as many people already stated, this is the death of this site. The majority of people who came here in masses in the past few years didn't come to financially support hentai artists - they just came for a free fap. On this site, you had a well-sorted catalog of good hentai chapters without having lot of bs content as on certain other sites. This site was similar to 9gag or youporn where you could just browse on on your free time and enjoy some free entertainment. If people wanted paid entertainment - there are too many other (unpopular) sites where you can do that.

I don't have a high income, so I rely on sites which offer free content. Since I really do like hentai art, I always tried to occasionally buy a translated hentai tank from project ecchi, but I don't really want to be bound by some subscription.

So yeah, you lost me as a visitor of this site. I know that what you're doing isn't bad, but it's just not the "Fakku" anymore which a lot of people knew and loved, but rather a project ecchi clone. I still hope the best for your site and maybe, once I start to get a better income, I might even come back.
