Newtown, Connecticut (CNN) -- In one of the deadliest school shootings in U.S. history, a gunman opened fire Friday in a Connecticut elementary school, killing 26 people, 20 of them children, police said. The suspected gunman, who was not identified by police, also was killed, apparently by his own hand. One person was wounded. The mass shootings occurred in one section of Sandy Hook Elementary School and spanned two classrooms, said Lt. Paul Vance of the Connecticut State Police. Among the dead were the school's principal and psychologist, according to a parent who was at the school when the incident happened. Separately, another adult was found dead at a second location in Newtown, Vance said. A law enforcement source with detailed knowledge of the investigation identified that person as Nancy Lanza, the mother of the suspected shooter, who was found dead at her son's home. She was a teacher at Sandy Hook, sources said. Police recovered three weapons from the scene: a semi-automatic .223 Bushmaster, a Glock and a Sig Sauer, a source with knowledge of the investigation said. Vance said that the medical examiner will determine the cause of death for the gunman, though he noted that police never discharged their weapons.

Don't think I'm an asshole here, but we'll get over it. I'm not saying it wasn't a terrible tragedy, because it was, i'm just saying that we got over 9/11, we'll get over this as well. It's what people do. We move on.

The level of brutality here is disturbing. Its like the Norwegian Youth Camp where 80 counselors and innocent children were shot. That was horrible and took far more time to feel at ease about.

Only thing Is the Norwegian media didn't blame video games or anime, that seems to be a North American thing.

What I don't get is why people frantically try to pin the blame on anything except the actual perpetrator; it's videogames, it's a troubled childhood, it's because he was bullied, it's religion.

Why can't people just accept the fact that there are genuine psychos out there, who need no other reason than that they're psychos.

Yes, the average Joe cannot fathom the depths that such minds delve into, but that doesn't mean they oughter deny it.

Wasn't everyone blaming, like, the entire European right-wing for what a single nutcase did, though? They sure pushed a lot of that in the BBC.
You know, right alongside the stuff saying "we need to make this right-extremist rhetoric illegal, to shut up people who disagree with us."

Of course, Americans do the same thing. We make so much fun of environmentalists every time some stupid wingnut blows herself up trying to make organic and environmentally-friendly bombs.
