Oh my god... This cover is just *nosebleeds* DEM TITS!!
Seems there's only going to be 20 of them made for sale for comiket.. that's gonna be tricky to acquire for sure (and I wonder if the guy is making any profit at all with such a low batch size ;( )
Nice cover Kobun, really exquisite breasts and nipples! I like how her fingers are sinking into her breasts as she grabs em..

Well the manufacturer isn't a big name like A&J, Seiren, or P80, so he's probably got a fairly favorable rate and who knows if he's ordered anymore to do a mail order at a later date. I'd imagine that a lot of these circles have a fairly small batch size to begin with anyway at events, because I don't imagine it would be fun to front that kind of money anyway; with a mail order you usually get paid before you put in the order yourself but anything at an event is out of your pocket before the items sell. D:
So who knows (well, I guess you would know since you've been to Comiket :P) how many covers smaller circles usually bring to events anyway; I'd imagine for most circles it's a fairly limited number probably pretty close to that 20, and unless it's a really popular circle like Marks or Anko, most things seem to be "reasonably" priced a lot of the time, by second hand mark up standards. Except for the first rush that is - covers are always expensive as fuck the first day or two of the event. D:

Well if you read Genshiken or the like, any manga where people run a stall at comiket, you'll see that in general they have only a tiny space allocated to them. So yeah, for smaller circles they wouldn't really have enough room to stock more than a box or two of dakimakura, and that cuts into how many copies of doujinshi they can have stocked too. As for having to front the money, I guess it depends on how big/small the circle is.. if they're moderately popular they can probably safely expect to sell unsold stock to consignment shops, it's only the really small/unpopular circles who'd be in trouble and they probably shouldn't be attempting to sell dakimakura before making a name for themselves anyway ;(

Yeah, I'd imagine even the smaller circles would be able to unload their unsold items at a consignment shop, but I was thinking more along the lines of fronting the money before they items are sold. Putting up about $2000 for 2 covers is harsh already, even if you safely expect to sell them all. I'd imagine any more than that, especially for the smaller circles (but not necessarily limited to them) might be a bit rough. Whereas with web orders, their customers are paying up front so it doesn't matter how big or small the order is; assuming it's enough to cover their expenses in the end, they're never out of pocket for it.

Yeah true, it certainly does add up fast into a ridiculous amount if you want to stock a significant number of covers.

Well, I can say I own my first one now, although not really for any kind of sexual reason or to replace my own love interest. The concept itself was crazy cool to me, and people were saying good things about it. I had been playing with the idea in my head for so long, I finally gave in to my insatiable curiosity, and also hoping it would help with my sleep (I have some pretty bad insomnia). I'm doing well in work, so $40 on Amazon with overnight shipping (I tend to be a very impulsive person when it comes to trying new things, so I really wanted it the next day) seemed perfectly fine to me. I picked out an Asuka Langley Shikinami one, not particularly sexual, thinking it would be a good first try. I didn't really want a sexualized one, but I did want a cute one with pretty eyes. This is what she looks like:

I really like the fact that it feels high-quality and very soft. It would be useless if it was coarse or uncomfortable. I'm trying to wonder how best to use it, but she's easily propped up against the wall facing her audience, or simply held as an extra pillow to cling onto.
I like it. I'm going to be experimenting with the best way to use it for a long time and, with any luck, it'll help me sleep a bit better. It was something I wanted to explore, so I started small, and I realized that there was a massive selection, but...They were still *really* hard to find with a dealer I trusted (besides Anime Boston where you can buy them in-person), and I really hate using eBay for anything but selling, not buying.
I'd really like a Strike Witches one, upon looking at them. Francesca and Sanya both seem to have excellent poses. As characters, I adore both of them.
Amazon has a half-decent selection, and quite a few qualify for Prime member shipping, meaning I get it overnight for nearly free or two-day for free. There's no fuss with communicating with a seller, and it's just convenient, so I always prefer Amazon if it's possible. Given the selection I quickly perused through, I chose the Asuka one as a sort of introduction to the idea. It seemed ideal for something I was looking for as an introductory body pillow.
Let's see how this goes. I'm optimistic to start.

If you enjoyed a bootleg, I suggest trying out a authentic cover.Though more expensive but should be much better then what you find high quality and smooth as well. Just my 2 cents.

It sucks that I have to put this hobby on hiatus when nice covers are coming out. That new EC cover looks so nice! @_@

A bootleg? Are you sure? It has a tag with the Gainax logo and a bunch of other things that would make me think otherwise. If the one I ended up with is a bootleg, what's the difference?

It's definitely possible that the one you purchased was officially licensed; I know that the US (if that's where you are) has a few that have been licensed over here at reasonable prices. However, the sad reality of the situation is that the majority of covers available on English sites are bootlegs, Amazon included. It is still possible that your cover is legit, but the chances of it being a bootleg (without us knowing any additional information) are quite high. :( Do you have a link to where your purchased it or any other information you can provide about the cover?
Regardless if it's legit or not, hopefully you'll enjoy it and you'll continue to participate in the hobby. :D

Guys, fuck I'm going mad. The only year I don't go to Japan my favorite series decides to release a goddam Daki.
Its on C82. Is the only way I could get on YJA? (I have a YJA acc, and a relative I could ship it to). Just that I don't want to pay double or triple. :(

If it's an event exclusive and never has a web reception, YJA will be your best bet. It's always possible they'll add it to Mandarake, but never a guarantee. As for what you'll pay... depending on the number they print and the demand for it, 2-3x wouldn't be unusual. :x

Actually, they do have a online shop. But it's only after Comiket, and it's only to sell the extra stock. I doubt they'd have extra stock for the Daki, they haven't released any Daki for some time, and Muv-Luv is a insanely popular Visual Novel in Japan, boosted by the recent anime release. I'll probably pay 2x at most. My fandom takes me so far.

Yeah, that Erio is definitely great; I'm happy I picked her up, though after having watched Dog Days, I wish I had picked up the Ricotta, too.
As for me, I don't buy doubles too often. Usually only when I think I'll like a cover enough that I'll toss it on a pillow sooner or later. When I think I'll do that, having a double is nice since I'll have a backup in case my cover gets damaged or whatever.
