Got Megane?
hmm all these pics of dakimakuras and no "how to clean/maintain one" thread? I haven't gotten one yet, but I plan too, and washing/cleaning it is a question I have that I'd like addressed.

It really depends on the material of the dakimakura.
Since they come in different fabrics.
You have Polyester Suede, Satin, Silk(obsolete), 2 way tricot(the most costly and the least durable of all fabrics) , 2 way Roicot, smooth knit And 4 way Tricot( the rarest fabric).
Most can be machine wash , but have the washing machine on it's most gentle cycle.
Though I recommend washing Less durable fabrics by hand, wearing gloves is almost a necessity if you don't want to risk your nails snagging onto your dakimakura, and creating a tear in such a expensive item is something you don't want.

I <3 dakimakura covers
Finally, another dakimakura cover collector! :D
I'm a big fan of Illust Guerrilla myself, but unfortunately don't have the Nagomi and Sono cover yet; I'm holding out for a 2WT version, but it only pops up on YHJ every now and then (should have picked it up 6 months ago when there were multiple up :() I do, however, have ten of their other covers and will be making it eleven soon with the Nymph cover.
I'd honestly have a hard time saying which my favorite cover is, but I could probably narrow it down to a few off the top of my head:
ã‚ã‚“ã“工房's Saber/Rin cover
ç´«æºäº's Mio
I'm also very fond NoReal's work
I'd probably add some more to my favorites when I catalog my collection in the coming weeks, but those are just some off the top of my head. I'll also take some better pictures when I do so, but I have a few small sets of my collection up on Megaupload now; for those interested I'll put the links below.
Set below has close up photos of three ã‚ã‚“ã“工房 covers, one from Card Captor Sakura and one from Strike Witches:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=R3M7P4E2
Set below has close up photos of the aforementioned Fate/Rin cover and a Kanu cover:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NGDMKTRL
Last set here (for now) is shots of various covers/sheets (still packaged) I received in one big deputy service order:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EVFTJ6G5
I don't recall off the top of my head the packaging it had with it, but it's quite possible the Kanu cover is a bootleg; I'm at least comforted in knowing the C.C. cover I have in the last set up there is authentic. It cost me a pretty penny to pick up when I could have gone bootleg, but DAT ASS is deserving of the real deal.
I also like 夕月工房's Dream C Club cover you have; I've actually been thinking about picking it up myself, but it's fairly low on my purchase priority list and it still seems to be fairly easy to acquire on YHJ. That's another circle I really like; I have their Kampfer, Evangelion, and Saber covers, and I'll be adding their Mio within the next few weeks.

Hey man, thanks for the pics, it prompted me to buy for for the Saber and Rin cover, I was always holding back because those damm sellers never show any detail pics, so I couldn't make out the quality, but now that I've seen it, Im most definitely must have it. Seeing so much IG dakis makes me wonder if you're the one I've been competing with at YJA for the Twins daki. And don't worry about it, the kanu daki you have is authentic, it's made of Sk suede. Fakes are always 99.9% peachskin polyester. Though of recent that have been cases of some bootlegs made of 2WT.
As for ç´«æºäº's Mio, I think it's ok but somehow it doesn't look very mio like , solely my opinion though. I might get it if I see one thats around 15k, there's been a ton of them floating around but the recent ones I see are obnoxiously expensive.
No real looks pretty cool to be honest, however, I found most of their dakis to be quite light in color.
Now I shall show some of my dakis, forgive the incoherent mess, I have so many I can't remember what I have aside from a few prominent ones.

Yeah, I figured it was; I paid a reasonable price for it and it was from a reputable YHJ seller. It's just a bit unusual to see images vary so much for mass market dakimakura covers, that I wasn't certain it wasn't a print. That's definitely a big problem with dakimakura covers if you can't find a sample image; luckily a lot of them do have one floating around somewhere on the internet, but you can very rarely see all the details or they only show facial shots. Glad I convinced you on the Fate cover; I was really worried about it myself, as I purchased the first red version on YHJ for close to 40000 yen, without a full body sample image. I was pleasantly surprised when I got it, but it was the biggest risk I've taken, and if I had waited a month or two, I could have saved a couple hundred bucks. But after you've been in the hobby for awhile, you start to get a feel for what's going to be rare and what can be picked up later.
I've learned to accept that if you buy it from a mainstream site like Hobby Search or AmiAmi, it's likely hair or some other such obstruction will be blocking the goods, however, it's a lot more unsettling when the same thing happens with smaller circles.
My two biggest disappointments was the Miku cover from ç´« æºäº; I paid a hefty price and was going purely on the face shot. It's still a nice cover, but not as raunchy as I was hoping for. And a Machi Gurumi no Wana cover from Syrup. That cover likely would have been my favorite, but as you can tell, there's a definite lack of anatomy there. With as dirty as the cover otherwise was, I figured there was no way they'd pull such a stunt; I would have been been happy had there just been a barely noticeable slit as some circles do. But that's the danger of going with a sample sometimes, I guess.
Don't worry about the Twins, I haven't placed a bid on the cover for months. I'd probably buy it out if I found a 2WT at a reasonable price, but bidding wars are very dangerous with me as I always end up overpaying. However, if you recently won a certain Azusa cover I've had my eyes on for quite some time, then we've clashed in a bidding war.
ç´«æºäº's Mio is still regularly available from web stores for around 15000, so if you don't mind putting in a special order there's no reason to pay the high YHJ prices. I didn't know this my first go, and I really wanted it, so I paid close to 20000, I believe. I liked the cover so much that I later picked up another for 15000 from D-Stage. I never really got into K-On, so I don't have any preferences when it comes to how a character is designed; I just saw an amazing cover with art that I liked, so I bought it. I've been pleased with every NoReal cover I have, though they're certainly one of the circles that skimps on detail in the lower regions. I'm optimistic that the Asuza cover they just released will fix that; I ordered two.
I certainly feel you on knowing which covers you have; I could name which I have from my favorite circles, but there's a lot of random covers in there as well. I'm in the process of moving now, so they're all boxed up, but I'll have a dedicated room for my hobby goods. I eventually plan on hanging all my dakimakura covers up so I can easily browse through them; I'll definitely take more pictures then. I figure I probably have over 100 now, which doesn't touch upon your 200 or so, but I'm pleased with my collection. Hell, anyone who doesn't understand the fun that comes with collecting dakimakura covers would call me crazy, since I received my very first dakimakura cover in April of this year.

That's another decent site, however, they only have their Kyou from Clannad available now (which I still need to pick up for myself.) However, I wouldn't be too worried about it; D-Stage may be sold out now, but I've seen them re-list it at least 2-3 times since I picked up my second Mio from them 4-5 months ago. If it continues to sell out, I don't see why they wouldn't re-list it again eventually, so just check back periodically.

Oh I definitely feel you with family. I have no problem with friends knowing my hobbies, even if they think it strange, but there's no way in hell I'd ever let my family know. Certainly understandable that you'd shy away from collecting such things if you were still under a roof with them.

Yeah, hooray for intolerance because it's not "normal", heh.
I actually did buy my first Dakimakura cover a while back, though! It's a Kanu (Koihime Musou) cover that came with a bundle of stuff in Dengeki G's Magazine. Only one sided, though. Still waiting for the day I can use it. ;~;

I'll have to say both my friends and family know about my hobby. And I live together with My grandmother and her maid. And I usually get my maid to wash my dakis as of recent because it's tiring to handwash everything myself.>_>

Well, I'd like to think that I have a fairly accepting family; I'm fairly confident that they'd accept my hobby, even if they didn't understand it and were a bit weirded out by it. I'm not rushing to tell them though, because there's very little doubt that it would result in some awkward moments, even if I believe they would accept it in the end.
Congrats! My first was Shizuku from Kampfer, though I'm a pretty big fan of the Dengeki G magazines and buy them every chance I get. Their pack-ins are always fairly cool, but I definitely believe it's worth it to shell out the extra money for the full sized/double sided covers. As far as pillows go, I have to say that the Cospa dakimakura I have is the best pillow I've ever used in my life, especially when combined with a silky smooth 2 way tricot cover. You'll pay quite a bit more than a $10 body pillow you can pick up elsewhere, but it's worth it to me.

Haha, oh wow. I applaud you for being so open with your family. I unfortunately don't have the benefit of a maid to wash my covers, and even if I did, I'd probably be too uncomfortable to ask myself. :P
