Dealing with Depression

So, I get serious bouts of depression randomly that last anywhere from a few hours to a few days, that I usually have trouble dealing with. Including yesterday, where I rage quit from the #fakku channel on IRC because I went emo and shit. So my question to you guys:
How do you deal with depression?
What's a good way to stave it off?
try to keep it somewhat intelligent

Should've posted this in SD if you wanted actual responses.
But I suggest you go out and do something new. Whenever I get sad, staying inside and moping makes it worse. Go outside, or learn something new. Always makes me feel better.

Crying works for the emotion of sadness. Everybody needs a good cry. Crying when you're depressed makes shit worse.

I used to have a pretty severe case of depression in my teen years.
Be productive, get something done that will benefit you or make you move forward in life. You have to do something that will make you feel positive emotions.

Hurting yourself doesn't cure shit. It should never be a serious suggestion. If you were joking, then I don't care and it's fine.
I'm sure crying then falling asleep happens to everybody, but it's not really going to "stave off" his depression.

And with "things", I'm referring to activities that will keep you actively preoccupied. Hobbies, trips, Facebook surfing... whatever might keep you from being depressed, go do it. Or alternatively, do things that will let you safely vent out what's keeping you depressed. And keeping a positive outlook as much as you could can help you deal with it.
But keep a realistic tab on things you do or else you're just deluding yourself.

But one thing I'd like to advise you, you'll have a hard time staving off your depression off if you're listening to mellow, mushy, sad songs, e.g. Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven"... or even if you're within earshot of somebody playing mellow, mushy, sad songs.
Hope you get out of that depression soon.

I usually talk a two hour walk to clear my mind.

I rage.
I cry.
Depending on my level of depression I'll then make a whiney livejournal entry.
And then I get over it.
All I can suggest is don't bottle it up. Emotions were meant to be released and sometimes crying is pretty much better then any stupid therapy/talk.

@ Sora-chan: I see where you're coming from so don't feel too bad about it. But they are right, usually hurting yourself isn't good. As an M, I'd rather have someone else do it to show they care about you. If I did it to myself when I was depressed, make me feel more ronery

I ragequit out of IRC, then fap, then return and say something absolutely positive about mother earth and its goddamn hideous beasts *coughroachescough* living on it.

I usually listen to music or do something that would divert my mind. I never talk about it with anyone which is probably not healthy for my mind in any way. I used to keep me up at night for too long until I just took medication that put me to sleep, but I don't suggest that. Music, movies, games, friends, exercise, ANIMOOO, and other things that usually keep you somewhat cheerful are good things to do even if you don't want to.

I've dealt with it for most of my young adult life: am still on meds for it, but out of therapy.
I've found the best thing to cure it is do at least one thing that makes you REALLY happy every day!
The biggest change you can make is smiling, even when it feels impossible! After a while, the smiles will become genuine :)
Keep a positive outlook on life, and always remember the good things when you're down. Stay strong!

I usually sob in my bed until I get a headache. Then I wish someone would pet my head til I felt better. .n. Never happens tho, so I never get over it**.
