Dealing with Depression
0
You said you periodically get sad.. is it completely random? Or have you detected a pattern? If there's any activity/person that triggers episodes of depression, you needa prune that shit of your life! Even certain eating habits might be responsible for waves of sadness, so make sure you eat regularly and that you eat well.
I recommend finding someone to talk with... whether it's a counselor at school or a trusted friend. Sometimes, even talking to a pet or an object that's special/meaningful to you can help; when I was in middle school, I rescued a pigeon with a broken wing and after it healed, it would always fly off for a while and then come back to the backyard. Confinding in that pigeon did wonders for me.
Other than that, you should run, eat spicy foods, or even smile, since these activities trigger the release of endorphins, a type of compound your body naturally releases to promote feelings of happiness and well-being.
If all else fails, you can consider SSRIs.

try crying (works well )or listen to soft musics
or if you're an "M" try hurting yourself a bit
If u have a good friend, got to him/her - telling ur probs - he/she will probably cheer u up.
Or just go out - think about that earth is a wonderful place and there a lot of thinks u have think about except ur deps
Or try to search someone who needs help, maybe a homeless one - u could talk with him/her....
Just distract sth. from ur deps....
indeed I've got already some. I remember that was about finding myself - I asked myself always " am I that bad? Is my personality so shitty?" - one summer I've been home - talked to nobody, did nothing, just sitting in my room - today I know that was sooo shit.Because friends, parents or what else are helping u - u just must allow this....

Just forget about whatever things that makes you depressed ...
There are a lot of things that you can do which is better than just sulking or depressing about something that had passed
Your mentality is the point here

Forgetting doesn't work, it makes things worse

What do you mean by worse here ? please be more detail ..
though that you need to forget whatever that bugging you and keep going forward since just stand and always look behind is completely useless ..

I don't believe you have ever had depression? People often say that when they have not experienced it. Telling yourself to not think about something makes you think about it more. You cant just not think about something, you need distraction, you need sunlight, exercise, social interaction, etc etc, although you may not feel like any, you -eventually- will decide you need to do something about how you are. I always did. If not, other people will decide it for you, such as friends and doctors, FORCING you to change how you are, but should these people not understand what you are going through, it makes it harder

[On constitutional melancholia]
Johnson:"A man so afflicted, Sir, must divert distressing thoughts, and not combat with them."
Boswell: "May not he think them down, Sir?"
Johnson: "No, Sir. To attempt to think them down is madness. He should have a lamp constantly burning in his bed chamber during the night, and if wakefully disturbed, take a book, and read, and compose himself to rest. To have the management of the mind is a great art, and it may be attained in a considerable degree by experience and habitual exercise.."
Boswell: "Should not he provide amusements for himself? Would it not, for instance, be right for him to take a course of chymistry?"
Johnson: "Let him take a course of chymistry, or a course of rope-dancing, or a course of any thing to which he is inclined at the time. Let him contrive to have as many retreats for his mind as he can, as many things to which it can fly from itself."

I did have depressed many times before so i can tell ,
and yes, you are right .. we think about it more when we try to forget about it ..
hard but not impossible ... you can but not easy to forgetting things
as an addition, if you can't erase that completely from your memory .. you can use that as a warning to not do that again next time .. it works for some certain problems .. and of course, it depend on your mentality ..
Your suggestion for social interact , etc etc ..
i think i have state that in "There are a lot of things that you can do which is better than just sulking or depressing about something that had passed", so my point still stand ..
People nowadays really want to get into our problem .. but that doesn't mean they are annoying or trying to order you .. they did because they care ..
it depends to the people him/herself wanna accept the advice from other or not ..

Sometimes, when I feel like my life is defecating on me, I simply play a very violent video game. Seeing someone in a worse situation than yourself can give you some comfort at times. It may not always work; and when it doesn't, just draw.
Draw whatever comes to mind. Doodle, sketch, whatever. If you really get into it you can burn hours at a time. Then fish out the drawings you like the best and keep them so you can look back and enjoy them every once in a while.
That's what I do, at least.
What I mean to say is: find a hobby you really like and stick with it. It'll always end up being your oasis when you're hitting rough times.

Subject matter I know well, as I have a clinical condition of it. I've had it since I was a teenager and it still is quite persistent. It depends on if it's caused by something specific or it's just that "moody/crappy day" feeling. The former can usually be easier to deal with, the latter on the other hand, I've yet to figure it out... I just gotta hope it passes quickly or I become frustrated and languor.

I was going to say something very horrible and mean about religion but instead I will say...
I just don't believe in a God.

Get together with some friends, do something you all enjoy. This shouldn't include alcohol or drugs, because as those can improve you mood, they can have the opposite effect as well.

What not to do: Call your Dad about your problems.
"WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU CRYING LIKE A LITTLE BITCH?!"
"Thanks Dad *Sob* you always know the right thing to say."
