NHK World reports that "a core meltdown might have occurred" at reactor 2, Fukushima Daiichi.
The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency has tried to circulate the coolant by steam instead of electricity, but NHK reported that attempts to lower the temperature inside the reactor chamber have not worked well.
NISA is reportedly also considering opening a hole in the reactor housing building to release hydrogen generated by the exposed fuel rods.

Well I can only say against natural catastrophe humans cant do much up to nothing. Really hard times now, but this atomic power plants which are exploding bit by bit are the real problem.
Well I kow there are warning systems. I don´t know how atomic power plants are working, but with this warning system this atomic power plants should be shut down immediately. I guess they cannot be shutdown immediately and there is the problem.

The plants was shut down but the problem was cooling the reactors

"Yutaka Yamamoto ("Yamakan"), the director of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star, Kannagi, and Fractale, posted the following response to his Twitter account hours later:
To apply "divine punishment" indiscriminately to innocent people is absolutely ridiculous. Ishihara, you who can't speak Japanese properly, have no right to place that identity on others."

[font=Verdana][color=green]This is still very much a serious problem. The possibility of a meltdown occurring still exists...with fears growing everyday.

The problem with the power plants in Japan is that they are protected against the earthquake but not the tsunami which is what causing the cooling system to failed.

So... Yeah... Earthquake estimate of 8.9 was reviewed, and was determined to be a 9.0...

[font=Verdana][color=green]Yes, I know. I'm keeping fully upto date on this matter.
More news; there has been a very big - supposedly hydrogen - explosion. And also, Reactor 2 has supposedly leaked radiation after the container has been damaged.

Really scared for Japan right now... the news sites keep saying the nuclear meltdown threat is closer and closer to happening.

Japan Faces Prospect of Nuclear Catastrophe as Workers Leave Plant
The sharp deterioration came after government officials said the containment structure of the No. 2 reactor, the most seriously damaged of three reactors at the Daichi plant, had suffered damage during an explosion shortly after 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
They initially suggested that the damage was limited and that emergency operations aimed at cooling the nuclear fuel at three stricken reactors with seawater would continue. But industry executives said that in fact the situation had spiraled out of control and that all plant workers needed to leave the plant to avoid excessive exposure to radioactive leaks.
If all workers do in fact leave the plant, the nuclear fuel in all three reactors is likely to melt down, which would lead to wholesale releases of radioactive material — by far the largest accident of its kind since the Chernobyl disaster 25 years ago.
:'( Here's hoping a miracle happens.

My friend who is currently in Osaka sent me this link to a news story on the reactor situation. Observe.
She's been trying to tell people that, yes, it is a horrible chain of events, but the media in the West is making it out to be more terrifying then it really is over in Japan.
