I was admittedly concerned for Neko-chan, but she seems to be doing just dandy, so that pretty much alleviates all my worries.
Asides from that- it's just another of a long line of everyday tragedies; Death, starvation, disease, war, poverty...
Happening all over the world, right now.
But who gives a crap, eh?
As long as my favourite seiyuus are fine.
You know what, I don’t care about anime/manga/visual novels, ext. When I see 6 nuclear reactors on the brink of meltdown, an earthquake and tsunami that wipe out entire cities, and people in a state of panic I do care.
For you to sit here and say I only care because I am a fan of anime is insulting, rude, and disrespectful.

Wish I could help, I feel really bad for that. Of course what I see next is something near Yellow Stone...

Seriously Jackie? You wrote that post? I can't believe you'd say something like that.... I'm in all with Tsurayu here.

Oy.
First off, my seiyuu comment was a sarcastic one.
Second, I am by no means belittling the gravity of this event- and am well aware of its impact.
All I'm saying is that such tragedies happen all the time, and that I simply find it rather hypocritical how some get so much attention, while countless others- which are just as terrible and devastating- are glanced over with hardly a blink of an eye.
Admittedly- I also am forever skeptical of the sincerity of people's sympathy towards those affected by such events.
"Oh, how terrible. Here, I'll throw off a few bucks- that makes me a good, caring person... Now what was I gonna make for lunch again?"
I do understand that my views are by no means popular- but don't assume that I'm simply some uneducated, uninformed moron with no knowledge of global, political, and economic relations and how they're affected. (Yeah, Tsurayu, that was directed at you).
You can't deny that people wouldn't care nearly as much were the same thing to happen to some other country; "A 8.9 earthquake and roaring tsunami struck New Guinea? Well- sucks for them".
Sorry if this offends you folks, but I tend to feel particularly venomous during these massive surges of all-of-a-sudden caring when not much was given before.
I mean- cripes- if you can afford to donate to worthy causes- do it regularly- not just whenever some country gets the spotlight shoved on them.
Just in passing- how many people have donated towards stopping human trafficking and child prostitution lately? Or shall we wait until it makes headlines?

I figured it was mired in sarcasm, but when something is tactless it is tactless regardless of how you want to spin it. Can't say I don't agree with you on the part of inequality when it comes to disaster events, but that is just normal human reactions.
Quite frankly it is just as annoying to hear people complain about the fact that people are so superficial when it comes to caring about the fates of other countries as it is to know that most, if not all of us, are like that.
I mean I'll come out and admit that I wasn't terribly devastated by the news of Haiti because I have no personal connection with Haiti. Is that crude of me? Probably, but is it normal? Pretty much.
Don't put your idealism for humanity so high up on a pedestal that you can't reach it.

Well, it is true that we care simply because its Japan that the event took place in, but that's because of all the love and connections and stuffs we have for it in mind, you can't expect every nation to get high attention for a tragedy... because that's just how us humans are...

People will be more concerned about things that directly or indirectly involve themselves. I can take a good example:
There was an earthquake in Haiti not too terribly long ago, and I didn't even care to listen about it on the news. Granted, my financial situation wasn't as good and I was lucky to even have enough money to pay the bills let alone food. But it had absolutely nothing to do with my daily life - so I didn't bother to really think about it.
Japan on the other directly and indirectly effects me, along with many other people who are on the forums here along with other areas on the internet.
I've gained relationships from people on the internet and their safety was a huge concern. The first day this happened my gut was all wrenched up as if there was trouble where I lived too.
Anime and manga are hardly a concern when you know people in a country that went through a record breaking earthquake.
When something happens somewhere that directly or indirectly effects you, you're way more likely to lend a hand and care a bit more than other problems in the world. It's human behavior.
Also, it'd be impossible to give something to every organization and fundraiser out there. It's not possible to volunteer for every community service event and shouldn't be expected either. There's nothing wrong giving to something you care about. It's better to give to some places in the world, and volunteer to some community services out there and stick to the causes you care about, I see nothing shameful about that.

D'aww, you gaiz make me feel fuzzy when you say you worried about me *giggle*
Pumpjack, you just are one of those people that gets upset when he sees compassion because wonders why people can't be compassionate all the time. You can't be happy unless everyone is happy, and so you get frustrated when your idealism is crushed by the reality that people's natural (and understandable) tendency is to not worry about problems that are not thrust to their attention. However, you should at least take comfort in the fact that when people DO have tragedy presented before them, many will act out of kindness even when they have no reason to.
In other news:
Such a strong earthquake yesterday. My bath water spilled out and made a mess (YES I TAKE BATHS - IT WAS A BUBBLE BATH AND I HAD A RUBBER DUCKY!) Power keeps going out so I've stopped playing video games since I forget to save and thus lose all my progress - have to stick to PSP and laptop. Sorta sad that I can't help or volunteer - officials don't want people near the hardest hit areas since they say it is dangerous, and they really just want people who are skilled and everyone else to stay out of the way (and conserve electricity). Odd feeling for me when there is a problem and all I can do is sit on my hands...
Maybe I'll knit mittens or something for the construction workers repairing the roads... OH! If you live in Japan don't forget to donate blood~ We don't donate blood over here for some weird cultural reasons I don't quite understand (blood=magic?). Make sure to donate so hospitals have your type available for survivors!

Bump on my head still hurts from when the TV drop kicked me down the stairs. [/h]

LOL.
Anyway, it seems that you have fallen under the same problem I've been facing ever since I was born, ELECTRICITY FAILURES!! I bet losing save data really pisses you off, doesn't it?
It used to for me, I remember throwing tantrums for losing save data of P4 many times lol.
Also, since you can't volunteer, then that means that you can spend moar times with us~ Surely it is sad that you can't help the poor people who are suffering and can't be of any help, but you can always look at the bright side I guess.

Hope that this Nuke crisis wouldn't be a second Chernobyl. Still scared about the Radioactive Dust might get swept by the wind here.

Wow, I do hope there is enough blood :o Perhaps because of the way horoscopes are connected to blood type by some it's a bit taboo? No idea.
Can other countries "import" any or is that out of the question? I'm not a medical expert...
Hope your bump feels better soon, Neko!

A true gamer would have a generator... i have two. back on topic.
My bro over there said the town he at fixing the grid stinks like sea ass and it's cold.. also he on the rad-x since there a cloud of nuke fart in the sky.
My unit is off standby.. i guess cops and mountain search and rescue is not needed in a pseudo war zone situation.. It looks like one on CNN.( i mean in looks not a actual war zone)

Oh yeahs, that is a good point animefreak - it is cold of here. It is NORTHERN japan that suffered the most, so while it is Mid March and getting close to april, the temp still dips below freezing at night time. My weather widget says it is 27 F/ -2 C right now..
I don't know about the nuclear thingy - the american authority here says we don't need to leave and the situation is being blown out of proportion. Just in case, I'm going to keep my PipBoy 5000 near by.

Also, while I know I may have been a bit of a douche in past posts, I am glad you are all right and that the situation isn't as bad as it seems. I also agree with Pumpjack on his point of how everyone only cares some of the time as opposed to all of the time and that sucks, but I suppose that's better than none of the time yeah? Here's to hoping the death/missing person toll doesn't climb any higher than it has already and that those casings don't break.
