Free Programs That Do Cool Things

Bulk Rename Utility is a very usefull program if you need to rename a lot of files. It supports Regular Experssions, so you can do some very powerful tricks with it.

Windows Powershell is a little advertised part of the .NET architecture, natively inside Windows Vista and 7 but also available for XP as a download.

The reason why you'd be interested in it, is that it's a lot more capable shell for Windows than the regular command prompt and allows writing complex scripts comparable to what you'd find on Linux bash or perl shells possible. It also supports Regular Experssions.

There are two versions of this, the limited and the paid version. You can live with only the limited version but the paid version is better... not that I would actually buy this yet myself. There was mention of an anime version of this but I am too lazy to find it.

Tutorials should come included in the Read Me files, or perhaps maybe even on the developers' websites. If not, it doesn't take too much to google for one. Hell, most programs are so intuitive you don't even need tutorials.

ed the text editor. You can edit whole lines at a time. And better yet, you don't have to worry about the pesky feature creep you get with other text editors. Check my email on a text editor? Thanks, but no thanks. All the colors of the rainbow? Ugh, my eyes. Fancy regex that changes individual characters? If I'm going to go through that much trouble, I'll just write a bash script! ed holds to the fundamental Unix principal of doing only what it needs to and leaving the rest for other programs.

Dunno why but it seems like it won't open a corrupted image, even if it's only half corrupted
