[Locked] Gambler's Appeal to All Fakku Members

Hmm...
Might be that this is because I either have the atmosphere senor of fresh roadkill, or because I haven't really been posting much, but I have not, personally, seen this increased hostility everyone has been talking about.
Leaving aside the possibility that I have a tendency to incite, I can think of few instances nowadays that merit kindly treatment of our newbies. I do not, for one, dislike them, and I always hate going through the newbie stage in any new community, so I try to be nice to them, but the recent influx of new members have not been Newbs, but fucking noobs.
Too many times seeing "Hay guys, can you gif me" threads, too many newbs that insist on failing to read the FAQ/Rules stickies, and one may simply assume that the next newb is going to be a dumbass, and put them down accordingly.
Not much I can say on that matter, since I think I do it myself, but the regular members of Fakku, I have not seen unnecessarily tormenting newer members. I've only actually seen the noobs being put down.
Though, I tend to stay away from Meet & Greet, so I might just not be seeing any of the newb abuse.
Maybe.
However, If I may, I will argue that while single words-QFT posts do not appear as constructive discussion, I would like to put that down to human nature. Many times, when conversing in real life with friends, or with people who share your viewpoints in general, you will find yourself or others proffering these "Single Word replies", which instead of a message board's "This^, QFT", etc, occur as "Yeah. Right? I know, right? You said it", etc.
While they do offer nothing new, I would like it if we could leave them alone. Sometimes, people have nothing more to say, other times nothing more needs to be said, and yet other times it's just a habit of English speech, which dropping online would be impossible without dropping it in real life.

Indeed, I agree that the atmosphere is getting a little hostile, not only between regular members, but also towards the newer participants of our community. There are many a times where new topics are created without much thought or effort, resulting in repeat threads, them appearing in the wrong section, or simply awaiting to be flamed, which I am strongly against. As Elites and Elders of the community, all of you have the right to point these newbies in the right direction, though some of your methods may be less than desirable. Phrasing your words to make them sound sincerely helpful and less arrogant can have a profound effect on others. All of us started off as a newbie at one point or another, hoping to gain acceptance from others; hearing kinds words will increase the probability of one continuing to engage the various discussions, while harsh replies may result in a new user leaving forever. The same concept applies in reality, where customer service is important in attracting potential customers.

I don't think it will take up much time for any of you to come up with a single sentence stating your opinion on the matter, instead of the above. A simple "This^", "QFT", "I agree", etc, does not help much either. Yes, it is difficult to change one's habit, much less a subculture on the forum, but we have to start somewhere. In the very least, it will make the forum appear less spammy. Maybe.

as much as everyone is gushing over this thread I really believe this is hopeless optimism, as much users want this to happen it won't; not for good anyways, most likely scenario is that it gets better for a short period of time but as more users join and our community grows we will continue to attract unwanted attention. I can't help but feel that this thread is simply idealism at it's grandest and most unlikely. I understand what your point is, but i'm not going to change who I am (even if i could) because you want me to be "nicer", I don't believe it will change anything.I'm actually going to have to say something I thought I would never say here. I agree with Waar. As much as we try to work for this, there are others who will not do so. It would be nice to see everyone trying to be civil with each other, but when it comes down to it, you can't change a person they have to change themselves.

Hopeless optimism it may be but trying and failing is still better than not trying at all (yeah, I know it sounded corny). Besides even it is sparks a temporary effect only, it's still a very good thing since that very period of time could give birth to yet more derailed hate topics instead, creating long time antagonisms or straightening those already in existence.
Also if this helps some elders/elites gain more perspective/distance on matters the effect could actually be substantial. Let's face it - old, titled members have a degree of 'power' over the forums that can either be used to mend things or to feed fires.

this is well put and i agree that everyone need to consider what gambler wrote. i need to work on the one word thing, though i don't do it as much anymore. i'm a relatively newish one on here, though i did have a past account, and i've seen some heated arguments go way to far. i know this is the internet, and furthermore an adult/mature site (but who the hell here is mature :P  ), but making the internet a more pleasant place isn't that much to ask and making Fakku more a desirable place to be should be on every one's "To Do" list everyday. please heed gambler's words.

I agree in this statement. I'm new and not too familiar to some of the rules here in FAKKU! that's why I have great respect towards elders and elites because they've been around here for a long time. but my point is, THEY HAVE A LOT OF INFLUENCE to other new members.
for example, what if a new member posted something bad or shouldn't be in that topic then an Elder/elite flamed the poor guy's post, that would trigger a bad thought to the new guy - that that is how people in FAKKU! are... so, trying to fit in... he often do the same to other newbies...
to sum it all up - ELDERS and ELITES are the key to change. INFLUENCE is powerful.

I wouldn't say that the atmosphere on Fakku has fallen too much. As long as I can have a good laugh with people and see some interesting threads then it's a good forum in my opinion. A few things have been happening recently that probably could have been avoided by people either shutting up to begin with or just avoiding the subject in general but that didn't happen. I have a lot of people on Fakku that I consider friends. In fact I like most of the people on Fakku then I like my real life friends. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to help people in questions, uploads, problems they're having, and just generally listening to their day to day problems and lives if I didn't like them a lot. I'm sure the other members feel the same. If the recent drama has shown us anything it's that if you bring up a touchy subject then drama is too be expected. Also it's best just to walk away before anything ever starts up. Some users may say that they were just giving their opinions on the matters but I believe everyone knows full well that when they say something if it's going to a positive or negative effect. Being direct isn't the best answer all the time.

Uh...am I the only person who feels like everything Gambler said was directed at them personally? If not....Gambler why you so mean!? *goes home and cries....then spins around in his chair and gets back to typing* Ok clearly I know Gambler wasn't talking only to me or something. My ego isn't quite that big (probably). Anyway yeah I'm certainly guilty of committing the wrongs Gambler mentioned (even if I did feel justified in doing them) so I'll try to work on that. As for my comment about quitting it was an exaggerated exasperated exclamation and not a sincere threat (is that the right word? Is anyone here gonna be horribly hurt if I left or something...?) of leaving.
As for Waar's sentiments I'm not going to argue that he's incorrect. Of course he's correct, the hope in making efforts like this to improve is that it will encourage us to do so again in the future because we'll at least know we can make a temporary difference. What we should be aiming for is a pretty much the quality going up and down instead of the endless downward trend we've been seeing recently.
Also, while sure elders and elites are influential this is kinda more a penalty than it is a boon. People can reach elite status very quickly and still be mostly in the dark as to how they should act. So for every elder or elite who knows what they're doing and influences people in a good way we probably have two elites (hopefully not elders..sheesh) influencing people badly.
Edit: Oh right...+rep Gambler.
Edit #2: You have no idea how tempted I was just to quote you and not say anything.

I agree that this is only optimism but let's not forget that it's only an appeal. His appeal is actually well done and praise well deserved as it tends to fix the shattered remains of whatever was destroyed because of the recent happenings. Just a comment on Waar's statement on being free and moderation: It is ironic that to be "free" here may not necessarily mean to be able to say anything we want. It is the ability to use and post in the site without feeling bad because of things out of our hands, that would mean freedom. To do that moderation is needed. Freedom is something given to each and everyone but the keyword there is "everyone". Remember that some actions may violate others' freedom indirectly or directly so be mindful of what you post.

well, idealist or not, this is still a good point, we need to appeal to the new user more, i never feel the need to bash anyone here (though if ay of my post offended any of you, in this statement, i mean in all thread, drama or not i WILL say sorry, you can PM me or anything but if i'm wrong or being an asshole, i'll admit it and i will say sorry) in all honesty, anyone remember zedy? the tentacle rape guy? that's probably the first time i bashed someone, i don't like his thread, offended and i just bash him and i apologize to him now, he'll probably be the first and last person i've flamed, and for my flame, it's still half joke, no flame/insult/harsh word, just a pic (two at that) and if he can see my joke, he won't even feel that it's a flame, like i said this is an idealist but why don't we make it work? i'm an elder but i try to be friendly with the new user, i chatted with them, trading PMs and to proove it, please ask the user themself, did i ever flamed any of you?

I remember that guy... and also that guy who had very bad english and was asking for sex... even made a poll about it... well deserved flames I think...
Anyway Ero's right. He welcomes newbies nicely, I'm talking with experience when I say this. Being a hentai site I don't think there's such thing as "unwanted attention" as the community grows it becomes more diverse which is great. It's just how we accept these new comers that really matters and affects everything. Everyone was a "newbie" in some point before so I'm sure you all feel how it is to be one.

As forums or communities get bigger they will always attract a wider range of people; if you believe I'm the worst of the worst then you will probably not enjoy the future here as I can guarantee more will come, unless mods take action. There is always that balance between freedom and moderation, how can we make fakku a free place, a place to spread opinions and say whatever we want while removing the dangerous threads and people by moderation?Waar has a good point. I would like to look at things ideally, but realistically, life isn't that kind. Life's a bitch that steals candies right out from under our nose. We might see maybe a week or two or maybe a month of better behavior from everyone who reads this thread. But noobs will stroll in and everyone will be too lazy to keep up their façade and things will go right back to how it was.

Actually comparatively, I think it was worse back when I joined (Which was about 8 or 9 months ago?). I'm pretty sure we all remember the lightning incident and a few more that followed after...
Thats what I see, but hey, maybe optimism is what we need at the moment for people to forget about the current happenings...

many of you are posting like you're not to blame for any of this: every single person who has posted here is guilty of one or more of them problems Gam is talking about. I really believe some form of enforcement is the only way to ensure some lasting change, as ziggy said a slap on the wrist would be a good idea, but I am also very likely to be the target of said enforcement so tbh I don't really want it to happen. Perhaps another moderator or two, or a script which prevents posts of a certain length from being posted could be made.
In the end I'm glad you all feel like this is going to work, and that it's worth a try, but I don't see it changing the overall course of this ship; That iceberg is unavoidable unless a real plan of action is created.

Gambler's idea sounds really good, but it's probably too idealistic. You always find assholes, and they always appear despite your best efforts (I wonder why I'm often called one even though I'm trying to not act like that  )
My advice is, don't take this forum (and internet generally) too seriously. Just think of it as a game you could always pause/stop/turn off and you will find your peace.
I hope noone here takes my posts seriously. Because it would be disasterous.

well about not to take internet too seriously I agree...
you can always back-off from problem rather than blabber nonsense to make it worse.

.....um, well.... i don't know what to say..... um I am not gonna bother with a long rant, i'll just say i'll try to keep my posts on topic etc (sry about the nano desu thread) and all that other stuff that's already been mentioned that I of course agree with, good job Gambler thx a lot.

Is it just me, or is Gambler the only mod running around here and taking care of us? Is there any other global mod? If we want to restore the friendly environment of this site we need more people with authority to enforce the forum rules and teach troublesome users a thing or two. +rep when I can.
