Has anime ruined your sense of reality? (in dating)

Not really honestly, I met my current girlfriend back in 2007 just a bit over a year after I began watching anime and 3 years later I'm still incredibly happy to be with her. There are some things that do happen in anime (the tsundere archetype, etc) but I don't mind that I'm missing out on some of the fantasies presented in anime.

2) Tsundere = bitch IRL. How they are presented in anime and how it works in real life are two very different things. That goes for a lot of personalities.

Lesson Learned: Don't forget the opportunity aspect. It usually comes knocking once and if one misses it, the next train will take a while to arrive. :eng101:
That being said, I am in a strange position right now (or so I think), with regards to my crush or one-sided relationship. Let me go pour my woes in the Love, Romance and Relationship section. ^_^;;

pfft, we make our own opportunities. If you simply wait for it to "knock" you're going to be waiting a while.
From what I can tell you exhibit some of the characteristics this thread is about, please try to take my advice.

Girls want the bad boy who is deep and really a nice guy on the inside, regardless of what the rest of people think; they want someone only they can figure out, someone who understands them. This is not the case with all girls, but the majority. So ... even girls want tsunderes?

Nah, it hasn't ruined my sense of reality at all. 2D girls themselves aren't even perfect, and even if they were, that would make them boring.

That depends on how one views "opportunities". I have come across girls whom I fancy in the past, but unfortunately, they are attached. Of course, one has the option of going after her all the same, but wouldn't it be bad for one to come between others?
All sorts of arguments can arise at this point. Some examples would include "If their relationship is strong enough, nothing can come between them", "If you don't try, you will never know the outcome", "It is not ethical", etc.
Perhaps the personality and principles of one do have a say in how things will turn out.

Personally I haven't dated anyone for the following reasons.
- I moved to a shitty town
- If I did date a girl I was worried I'd end up having to stay in that shitty town
- Most girls there were real bitches and the only nice girls were taken
Now that that's out of the way I'll explain the rest. So as far as looks go I'd say I was a pretty good looking kid at the time (Around middle school/high school) and could have gotten any girl but my problem was that I was too shy around girls and was always nervous while talking to them making myself look pathetic but yet a lot of girls always were coming by and saying hi [Insert Slayer's real name here] when I walked through the halls and I'd look up and smile so their was no doubt that girls found me attractive since they were willing to talk to me but the worst part is that I didn't realize this at the time and since I didn't want to get into a serious relationship and end up having to stay in the shitty town where I lived after I graduated I missed out. But I can't say I've given up just yet, I'm still young and have a lot ahead of me and since I do have confidence I think I'll do good I just need the right setting.
Edit: By "setting" I mean I need a good place to find a girl I am interested in before I make my move I know waiting won't make my situation better but I don't feel right making a move on someone I just met I'd rather just be friends first then take it further.

friends zone to boyfriend almost never happens.
There has to be some inkling of attraction before it starts. It's best to declare some sort of intent withing the first few times you speak. A simple "Can I take you out sometimes?" is probably best. If she needs a bit more confidence you can also try "I'm taking you out, this Saturday" but its more risky. Be flirtatious but don't act like a dog. If her reply to your request is no in any way accompanied by "but we can still be friends" or "sure, but only as friends" it's your duty to decline. If girls start to friend zone you; walk away. You are men, you know what you want, if she is unwilling to reciprocate you will regret playing her game. I've been suck in far to many friends zones to ever be caught in one again. Being shy can only serve to hurt you, sack up and tell her you think shes cute. It wont kill you to be rejected, but wasting years of you life will.
@gambler: don't go for girls in relationships, if she's willing to break up with her current guy for you, what makes you think she wont do the same to you. If you find a girl that you fancy but can't be with move on to another girl; they're aren't any shortages.

Well that story makes me feel a bit better, I looked around my room the other day and the first thing that popped into my head was "The 40 Year Old Virgin". Here, I also get a very bad impression of women, sadly it dampens my perception of the real world because here no one cares about anything other than art, pot, music, promiscuous sex, and hating men, (welcome to the 5o5), and I'm nothing like that, I actually play sports, have a job, going for college, watch anime and cry at a good movie, but here they don't care they are to "hardcore". So here, I gave up, they are all snotty stuck up bitches and I'm just going to wait for some REAL women who don't play games and have some respect.

I have told my girlfriend That i watch Hentai, but that was almost a year after.
I also got her into anime as well.
She was a little weary at first about me watching "Cartoon porn" but she prefers that I watch Hentai than RL porn. That way she wont have to feel like she is not good enough.

Sound advice, I'll use that thanks Waar.

Thats just it though most anime girl characters have no real personality. They are either really happy, really dumb, and not to mention that they fall in love over the stupidest reasons. They are not like real women at all , and I for one am happy because I couldn't date anyone with the personality of an anime female.

Yeah, anime has completely ruined my sense of reality, still waiting for those flags =/ Still, not worth the wait if I can't find the girls as attractive to anime girls...

Nah, hentai is something that can just help me get turned on and have fun watching it etc. I always put this in my head since I started playing video games, better start off at the beginning knowing it is all false than hopelessly trying to make it true.

I'm just saying it's not worth it to deal with that bullshit. I ain't fucking Ryuuji.

Nope. It didn't ruin mine because my girlfriend is just as lost into anime as I am. So it all works out.

i'm not quite sure.I think it's ruined my sense of reality within my mind, most of my thoughts are only seen through anime characters i make up in my head or whatnot.
But when it comes to dealing with real people i date or find attraction to i don't treat them the way i see in an anime.I treat people like the way i want to be treated.like real people.

All the things you think make the perfect girl go right out the window when you find a girl you love. You can say now that you will never date someone who has brown hair and the second you meet that brown haired beauty all your rules just disappear.I can second that point. Totally happened to me with my girlfriend. I never really pondered what a "perfect girl" would be for me but I always kept real world versus anime world separate because I know it's totally not the same thing. But whatever happened at a point in time I looked at my then-not-girlfriend and I simply wanted to know more about her and spend time with her. She'd never really stand out in a crowd but somehow she stood out to me.
Spent time with her for 4 months before I had the guts to officially ask her out.... waited another 4 months for an official answer (whole other story by itself) but I never lost hope and it'll be a year on December 24th that we're been officially going out :)
It takes time, it takes energy, it takes guts but damn it's the best feeling in the world to love someone :)
P.S. Got really lucky that I met her at an anime club so I was already cleared for my hobby XD

Sigh... Real girls are hard to come by. Good ones might I add to that comment (-3-).
As several have mentioned, you compare 3D women to 2D... That's just a natural thing nowadays... But hey. If you look at it from this point of view we're all in the same boat!
POV: We, who watch anime compare women with 2D... BUT people who look at porn and read porno mags are in the same boat. The people are 3D but in a 2D plane! So there is no fundamental difference between anime and real porn thus PORN = HENTAI.
With that in mind, EVERYONE's sense of reality is ruined XD. Anime is but one of the these factors :3.
