Has anime ruined your sense of reality? (in dating)

We've all done it, we've all compared the girls we're dating or interested in to 2d girls. I was busy posting in another thread when it hit me: a lot of you have an unusual sense of how a relationship and courting should work. Do you honestly believe a girl isn't perfect if she wont act the same way your favorite tsundere character does? Do you expect any of her reactions to be similar at all to that harem anime you love? Real dating doesn't start when two people meet in the courtyard outside school as you're both late for your first day of high school. Girls won't accept everything you throw at them the second they meet you, you have to ease people into relationships, especially when it comes to our anime/hentai hobby. It's hard for people to accept new things, and anime is no exception. The terms "weeab" and "wapanese" both describe how the general population feel about us, we have to accept that. That doesn't mean every single one of you cant get some normal girl to accept all your hobbies, it simply takes time. (skip this next part if you don't care about an example) Spoiler:An example of my topic is my friend Jeff who was like us, into manga, anime, video games(eroge included), and hentai. He looks like a normal guy(not overly plain, nor was he overly attractive) and does normal guy things (played sports, and video games, went to parties). He met a girl at a college party in his freshman year and immediately decided he want to date this girl. He started with all the regular stuff: calling, meeting for coffee, hanging out watching movies. Then about a week and a half into it she asked to see his place. This was a problem for Jeff because he had a bit of a weabish room (figures, and wall scrolls, and games stacked to the ceiling in his bookshelf). His first action was to tell her that he was uncomfortable with it but he would if she would hear him out about something. He then told her some of his secret (he likes anime [and what anime was because she was clueless], he plays video games, and he also likes to read manga [she was also clueless about that]). She didn't understand most of it but seemed to accept it nonetheless. Alright cool, a months and a half later she finds his bookshelf(which was hidden in his closet for the past month and a half) and asks what all the games are about as the boxes clearly represent something very sexual. This was a problem for Jeff because he had specifically avoided telling her his desires up to this point. So he bit the bullet and explained everything. She was slightly shocked at first, he needed to carefully explain the situation to avoid any misunderstanding; why he was sexually attracted to cartoons and how he could spend soo much money on it. A few hours passed and she started to be more receptive of it all. She was able to see some of the beauty in some of it as well (mostly the art in some of the more artistic doujins). 6 months later Jeff and his girlfriend now share most of his hobbies, they watch hentai together, they recommend manga to each other, they watch the same OVA's. He could not be happier (he won't shut the fuck up about her). This story represents a normal relationship, it's how everyone does it. Girls wont magically pop out of the ground, they wont fly in on a broomstick, they aren't from soul society, and don't crash through your roof while fighting giant monsters. You have to put in a small amount of effort to win them over. After that if you honestly want a girl to accept everything about you all it takes is time. I love most of you, you are my people, and as my people I hate to see many of you suffer. When i see someone on the forums say they wont ever get a girl to like them I feel like shaking the fuck out of them, everyone has something the opposite gender will like. Perhaps you're funny, or very artistic, something you have can attract another human being. If you're a person, and have an IQ higher than 85 you have a chance at romance and all it takes is a bit of effort (and some money). I'm no sensei, I've had my share of women problems, I chased after girls far too long, I've been rejected a many occasions and will probably be rejected a thousand more times (if my current gf dumps me at any point), I just want to see some of my fellow brothers have some faith and not give up a chance at romantic happiness. Pardon my soapbox moment.

I find this to be pretty true; while it has not ruined my common sense and touch with reality when interacting with females, it sure has made IRL women less attractive to me...

I dont think it affected my dating life or my perception of reality. I love anime and gaming, I like hentai, I love the 2D world in general, but to me its still a fantasy and a hobby. As much as I love 2d girls and the different worlds of gaming, im still very much attached to the Real world.

I expect more to life than fun and games. I love women with their little imperfections the daily hardships. The real world aint so different from the 2d world when you think about it. People got their shortcomings, you gotta work if you wanna get something... I think the 2d world is just a projection of an "ideal". With determination, that can be achieved in the real.

TL;DR: Thats just me, but the 2d world gives me dreams, and dreams fuel my life in the real world :) I love it that way!! :D Yay for anime!

No, never. I'm not a weeb who can't differentiate between anime and reality. However, I have dated girls who have felt like this before.

The world isn't perfect in many ways, and one of those ways is relationships. Also, they don't always end happily. Most relationships that people get into are either superficial or aren't intended to be serious (at least in one parties eyes...).

However, when you do find a solid relationship, cherish it. Milk it for everything its worth and have the time of you're life. Because chances are, its not going to last forever.

I dont blame anime for ruining my sense of reality in dating.I blame myself for the lack of charisma and lack of social skills to talk to a girl.I dont really know what to talk about to them. :( good post waar.

that's just it, it's not a lack of charisma or the ability to talk to girls. Some people aren't born with it. For example I'm awesome at talking with people, most people, but for some reasons when speaking with an attractive female that I am interested in it's like my brain cant cope and I stumble through and often end up sounding like an idiot. The solution to these problems is to just keep putting yourself out there and trying, eventually you'll find that girl who likes the weird guy who are really awkward around girls, I found mine.

Its pretty hard to find a girl that shares the same interests as me, but they are out there, I just be myself when im around girls, if they like me, awesome, if they dont, there are always more fish in the sea
