"Normal" people's reaction to Hatsune Miku video

Not sure if this goes in random so here we go (feel free to move or delete)
Alright so today in my AP art class something happened that kind of bothered me. It was near the end of the class and we were all kind of sitting there (it was after a presentation). This kid (who's a giant fag) then starts talking to the class about how he found this weird/hilarious japanese video online. He didn't know what it was or anything so then he brought it up on youtube and showed the class. It was that Hatsune Miku concert that had all those 3d effects and craziness to it (of course I knew what it was but didn't say anything). Pretty much after the first 30seconds of it everyone had the "what the fuck this is so creepy look on there face" followed with laughing and what not. Such comments such as "I really HATE this" and "this is so disgusting" were thrown out. ... Moral of the story is "normal" people were shown weeb stuff and were freaked the hell out... Of course this is expected so I guess it didn't really surprise me. Yet this is the first time I've ever really seen this reaction and it kind of annoys me. Maybe just the fact the people (some, not all) can be so fucking narrow-minded. Hell even the teacher joined in and started making fun of it. Also I've never really got into the whole vocaloid/miku fandom thing so I'll save my judgment on it for later. Basically how do you(fellow people of FAKKU) feel about this reaction. Does it bother any of you? I mean I guess it's somewhat typical but it kind of annoys me even so. Also since its art class and I draw anime, everyone is gonna be in for a surprise when I bring in my art.
Short version: Normal people see Hatsune Miku concert youtube video(the crazy 3D projection one) and freak the fuck out because it's so outrageously "weird/creepy/disgusting". My first time actually seeing this sort of reaction, and I get somewhat annoyed" What are your thoughts. (sorry for wall of text, tried to condense it as much as possible)

What are normal people? You guys must live in those places where you have to hide your weebness to stay normal?

Pretty much I'm the only weeb at my school (that I know of) and no I don't hide my weebness at all.

If those are normal people then I guess the people I know like how you just described aren't normal then. They play sports, listen to those "hip" music, they know and a lot of people like them, they go on Facebook and they watch Anime as a hobby at home. I guess we're all weebs over here compared to where you live.
Edit: Even the person you least expected them to be watching Anime ... they do watch Anime.

I personally don't like the Vocaloid series and 3D projections of anime do seem weird.I've never gotten into Vocaloid so I couldn't tell you whether i love it or hate it. 3D anime projections are a bit different but these people overeacted a lot. Either way, even if they would of saw a regular anime clip the reaction probably would've been similar.

You know I probably didn't explain it right but fuck it, you win. And believe me these people don't watch anime. I guess maybe I meant normal as in "people who hear anime and think pokemon" (which isn't a bad thing, I'm not trying to convert people into weebs)

i guess people just react that way
because they know nothin' about it

Sometimes what people think about anime and things like that has to do with the region, too. Where do you live?

Little to be added from what has been said by others.
My 2 cents: judgemental opinions without investigation or prior knowledge have as much value as a cucumber telling you what day of the week it wants to be eaten. I dislike many things about Vocaloid as a whole but the few instances that have met my tastes are noteworthy.
As per criticizing the epic weebness of others, I find that being part of a facebook/chat/partying has zero redeeming value, as you enter into about 90% of the young and utterly boring young population. At least the odd weeaboo adds interesting flavor to funny conversations every now and then.
Although, I express my annoyance at any person that compares or exalts Vocaloid beyond the greatness of Metal, Pop or Rock music, relying soley on "because it's awesome!" arguments.

The so-called "Weeb" culture is really a love it or hate it area, with absolutely no middle ground.
I've never seen anyone who only "kind of" likes anime- and if there ever was one, it's not long before they outright embrace it.

Hatsune Miku isn't weird. It's so nice! I like vocaloid music a lot, especially Luka and Gumi.
Sitting at a vocaloid concert and cheering and waving like it's a normal concert? That's weird IMO. XD
Still fun though.

I think the concerts are a bit weird. It's ok to like a character, it's ok to like music, but going to see a virtual character 'perform' synthesised songs, without any pretence of a proper 'DJ' or it being a novelty, bemuses me. I don't judge the people who will pay to watch that but I don't personally see the attraction.
The reaction you describe is perfectly common to me. Anime watchers in this country are social outcasts who band together where at all possible. There are, notably, also very few girls who like video games. We have never had the comic book culture of the US, which I suspect has spawned both of those interests in more people.
As a result many people I really like have casually equated anime to porn, labelled it as weird or overtly sexist and objectifying. There's widespread appreciation of Ghibli, but nothing beyond that. I have to really sell an anime film even to film students to get them to consider watching it, and it is never a first choice.

First of all as a weeb you should know by now to not criticize any facet of art or expression, second, being hip never got you anywhere but unemployed and republican. As for my opinion, even if it seems socially unacceptable, that cheerfulness and happiness it does bring to people cannot be wrong, besides who are you to judge, you masturbate to cartoons.
Edit: Didn't read OP once again XD Dem tag lines. Anyways as I took the time to skim the first page I realized that your bring to mention "hip" american youth, as I remember of my own childhood 7 years prior and parts of early middle school in which was a diaspora of sorts, my friends generally accepted my nature, albeit I didn't go around portraying a visage of a shounen manga and was relatively acceptable past the oddities that seem to occur around me or within my presence.

I was going to post the video itself on here, but I guess I was a bit late. I personally feel somewhat offended after watching that video, despite how I hardly listen to Vocaloid anyway. I would feel bothered too if people started talking negatively about such things :\.
I facepalm'ed so many times during the duration of that video.
