Sounds like when people ask what's my ethnicity I tell them Cambodian and then they reply back to me with "what? I thought you were Asian." and my face is just -_-.
Omg, I'm Cambodian too and that's the same reaction I get! My friend keeps saying that Cambodians aren't Asians which is just stupid L_L.
If you live in America, and people around you know what Cambodians/Khmer are, consider yourself lucky.

No offense, but even though I am an otaku, i dislike vocaloids.
Reason:
-Sounds too mechanical(maybe there's a fetish for this)
-Because of above, sounds awful
-Etc
A bunch of fat or downright skinny people with glasses(24/7 at yer PC, bad eyesight)
jumping and singing with a hologram? *shivers*
Sorry, but that IS disgusting.
P.S. And yeah. Haters gonna hate. I respect your hobbies/interests/whatever. But i also have my own opinion on them. Again, no offense, it's just mine humble opinion.
P.P.S. When I say - "Oh hey, I'm from Russia"; everyone is like "NO WAY you gotta be from Korea or China" and I'm like -_-

Its cool, I wasn't really trying to really defend Vocaloid. I just got annoyed by the immediate judgmental reaction they had. At least it seems like you have more reasons for disliking it.

Well actually they usually don't know what Cambodians are until I have to explain it to them and even then they don't understand that Cambodians are Asians.

Personally, I think of Asian as east Asian (Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese, maybe Vietnamese). SE Asians like Thai, Khmer, Lao, Burmese, Malays, etc. are similar to east Asians, but still fairly different (of course, there are also differences within each group).
I'm an Indian, specifically a Bengali, and I don't consider myself Asian in any way more than the continent I was born.
Do you have an Epicanthic Fold? Most people equate that with Asian without exception, so I'm guessing not.

Usually it's "Chinese"/Japanese or you're not Asian at all. if you get why Chinese is in quotes. Kudos to you.

It's all technical stuff in the end whether someone's Asian or not. I do actually have the epicanthic fold, but my friend still says Cambodians aren't Asians for whatever reasons (mostly likely just messing with me).

I personally don't like the Vocaloid series and 3D projections of anime do seem weird.I've never gotten into Vocaloid so I couldn't tell you whether i love it or hate it. 3D anime projections are a bit different but these people overeacted a lot. Either way, even if they would of saw a regular anime clip the reaction probably would've been similar.
.............. Holy fuck. you just have described every person I know! (but not my best friends.)
back on topic: It really annoys me when someone thinks of the other as an idiot for disliking what he likes or liking what he dislikes. For example my older brother (a normal person) came to visit me once and found me playing Final Fantasy. he started claiming that I am an idiot and I need mental help... WTF!

it is weard for western standards, I freaked out the first time I watched it and I made the exact same reaction, but hey! people react that way to something different or strange, don't blame them...

I'm always reading manga/light novel in class so no really is surprised by it, no one really cares even though i don't come off as the weeb type. Personally when someone does say something I just give them a sarcastic response and they shut up, my one friend likes to claim everytime I'm reading a new book that it's porn, and I usually find the most perverted scene in the book and just say "hmmmm maybe". The short is, it doesn't bother me, people are entitled to their opinions, maybe I can help them see the light but I don't make it my mission to preach the anime gospel.

I actually like Vocaloid but im not a massive "fan" of it, I think that its a nice concept and that its pretty cool.
When I was in school I was a part of "The Mob". Thats what school basically is... It prepares you for society! And if you like anything thats considered even slightly 'unusual' you will be fucked over constantly and called a fag or whatever.
What would be really nice is to go to the teacher when they're alone and just say how disappointed you were with their reaction to it and how you've actually lost a little respect for them by simply following the pack and not standing up for art and give an objective viewpoint to the class. It would be so worth it just to see their stuck up fucking bastard faces turn into a frown and either tell you to basically fuck off or even feel a little shamefull about themselves.
Teachers are shit these days... None of them has any backbone! (Bunch of fucking dreamers)

Eh. What do you expect out of highschool kids? Plus, AP art is almost always full of stupid pretentious hipster kids.

The cultural gap really shows itself eh? Besides pokemon and yugioh, kids in America really don't have a clear grasp of Japanese pop culture.
Another reason why you had such a strong response might also come from where in America you're from. People in the west coast and east coast probably will not show such a repulsive reaction towards the video since they have more exposure to different cultures and customs compared to people who live in the South.

most kids in highschool know nothing about the world, they are unable to accept something which way beyond their wildest imagination, they thought that the world revolved around them, can't really blame for their ignorance.

To put it bluntly, I hate this kind of music. Not the Miku itself, but the very essence of music itself.

it kind of annoys me. Maybe just the fact the people (some, not all) can be so fucking narrow-minded.I know how you feel, my family members are all like "Eww, disgusting" towards even the faces of the Japanese people, anime and their songs, heck, one time I was watching anime songs on TV, mom went like "Chong, chang choo~", as if mimicking some Chinese, and said other shit, she did it not only then, but many other times of course, soon my older brother even started calling it shit and all that. Its annoying to hear all that from people.
I just wished people would learn when to shut up sometimes.
