Organ Donor?
0
Medical and technological advancements over the century has made it possible to keep organs in transferable conditions and thus be donated. Organ donation is the donation of an organ of the human body, from a living or dead person to a living recipient in need of a transplantation. Organs that can be harvested for transplant from a person who has died include:
Lungs
Heart
Kidneys
Intestines
Pancreas
Liver
I was wondering if you would donate your organs after you died or know that you will die? Why and why not? I understand that in some culture it is forbidden. Is anyone here a register organ donor? If not, do you donate blood? BLOOD TYPE? I got the idea of posting this question after I watched an anime called Angle Beats(Great Anime by the way!)
ME: I'm not a registered organ donor, because when I was getting my drivers licensed at the time my mother wouldn't allow me to. But now I think I would like to donate my organs to save some lives, I won't be needing it anyways when I'm dead. Oh and I am also a regular blood donor I'm a B+!

I wouldn't mind being an organ donor, but I don't have it on my ID out of fear that a paramedic will let me die when I could have been saved just to get my organs. It's paranoid, but when a paramedic holds your life in his/her hands, it's hard to trust them.
Now, if I knew I was going to die, I'd be a donor, easily. I see no reason not to. My organs might be shitty because I don't take great care of myself, but the doctors can decide before putting them in someone else if they're good enough or not.
I don't understand why anyone would be against donating organs after death. It's not like you'll need them. Being buried (or cremated) minus a liver or heart doesn't change anything; you're still dead and in the ground (or as ashes).
As for blood, I've donated blood once, in high school. I've wanted to do it more but haven't had any opportunities. It's hard to get someone to agree to take you to donate blood, especially with gas as high as it is. I had a few chances in college, but the van was there early in the day, and I would have had to go to class after giving blood, which wouldn't have been good. The one time I gave blood in high school, I could barely do anything the rest of the day. (Better than some of my friends, who actually passed out.)

Cool, yeah highschool was where I first donated blood too.

I'm a registered organ donor, but I am somewhat fearful of doing so. There have been cases that after a car accident, people, very, very rarely, can go into a conciouse, death-like state, and the paramedics believe the person to be dead, and when they see that they are an organ donor, will send them to the hospital. Now, if the person survived the trip, and would have the prosedure start pretty fast, the person would be completely conciouse as they would remove their organs, fealing every pain.
I first heard of this on 1,000 ways to die, and decided to do some research on it.

I would definitely donate anything after I die. It would be better to see those organs save lives and help someone than just being wasted and decomposed after I die.

BUT I'm glad everyone has answered that they would donate their organs :D

Apperently, it can happen, but ever since we started that whole donation after death, there has been less that a dozen cases of that. I'm just scared because I tend to have terrible luck :/

Kind of Important
A ray of Tsunlight.
I said no when they asked if I wanted to be a donor. It's just some weird irrational fear of mine, but something about it just creeps me out, and I can't bring myself to say yes to having my organs in someone else. Even if I'd be dead when it happens. I have the same problem with donating blood too, even though I have 0+, one of the two universal donor types, I still won't do it.

I'm a donor. i remember when it was a little sticker on your drivers licence(mine always fell off after about a year or two), now it's acctualy printed on there.
if i'm dead, i can't use them any more, why not someone else who can use them have them?

If an individual is dead, the reasonable and ethical decision would be to permit your organ to help someone else.
The only opposition is religious faiths. Then again, in my personal opinion, any religion/faith which believes this, for any/all the reasons, is a religion or faith worth avoiding.
I have not registered myself as an official organ donor, because I am afraid.

could be urban legend though. i'm too lazy to look up proof.

Well, I suppose I just picture myself feeling the pain, even though I won't, and no matter how hard I try, I can't stop thinking like this.

Agreed.
When you die, you have no use on any of your organs, right? Rather than letting them rot and eaten by worms, I'd rather have them implanted on someone and saving their life. That way my life would have better meaning.

If I was to die in an accident and there was any possible way my death would save the life of another, religion or not, I would take that chance, because my best friends dad's life was saved by an organ doner. If i could save someone like he did i think that would at least give my death meaning. Thats why i have that little heart printed on my license.

What about donating organs before you're dead? It's possible to donate a kidney and part of your liver while you are alive.
Who would be for/against that?
If I had a family member that needed something I could give, I'd gladly let them have it. I imagine all of the before-death donations have side-effects, like not being able to be as active, but that wouldn't affect me much since I mostly just sit at the computer or watch TV or read. I might even be willing to give something to a stranger if it would save their life, because how could I look at a person and say, "You deserve to die so I can keep both of my kidneys"?
Though I certainly don't expect everyone to be the same!

Yeah I would, for a close family member or a close friend. But I don't think I would for just any stranger, because it does also affect the health of the donor. I love running and I wouldn't want it to affect my running. But I'll give up running for a family member or a good friend.
If I'm dead, yeah totally anyone can have my organs.

If my organs could be used by a family member, then I would not mind. But if they do not need them when I die, then i want to be cremated so no one else can have my organs. If a doctor decides after I'm dead to give my organs to someone else, they better be ready for quite a few blood born diseases.
