I like some Jap music for the same reason I like any music: It sounds good.
So far, the best I've heard was "Gee" by girl's generation.

Sounds better then most American music. Voices and the Backround music go together so much better. More in sync then most American music that just repeats the same lines over and over again. Since I don't understand Japanese the voices are like vocal instruments to me.

I don't like japanese music anymore than english (not american - you are leaving out all the british and aussy bands!).
One of the reasons I think others like japanese music is they don't know what the words mean so the sound of the vocals stands out more - as opposed to the meaning of the lyrics.
@RBZ girls generation is korean i thought?

I have the tendency to hate song that are sung in languages that i understand.
Which prolly explains why i'm listening to music and not songs most of the time.(take note when i use MUSIC not songs. :) )

If the music is good and I can enjoy it, then it doesn't really matter where it's from.
I like Takako Minekawa because the music she makes isn't cliche j-pop, it's quirky, catchy and she composes it herself. A lot of Japanese bands and artists aren't afraid to experiment and often have eclectic influences, that's something I can respect and enjoy.
Also, Girls' Generation is Kpop.

To me, music has no language barrier. It does not matter whether it is American, Japanese, Spanish or even French. As long as it sounds amazing to me, I will listen to them. Three Japanese bands I like are Boris, Asian Kung-Fu Generation and Galneryus.
It took me awhile to maybe realize this, but is this a thread that really says " Why do you prefer Japanese music to American music?" ?

I love japanese music since I was a kid.
At first, I just "like" it, bcause of many anime influences.
Later, I began to learn japanese and finally understand the languages.
After that, I found that japanese music is very different from local or american music. It has very deep meaning and sometimes made me into fantasy based on the lyrics.
I like japanese rock band such as L'Arc~en~Ciel (I have all of their songs!! ^_^), X Japan, Abingdon Boys School, Luna Sea, Asian Kung Fu Generation, Dir~en~Grey, Siam Shade, Detroit Metal City, Stereopony, etc.
As for japanese pop, I like Maaya Sakamoto, Angela Aki, TM Revolution, Utada Hikaru, Gackt, etc.
^_^ I really love japanese stuff! ^_^

I like the guitar, the flow of the lyrics, and the voices.
