I like mostly all of the anime songs and gackt and other japanese or korean bands~ The japanese ones usually have a deeper meaning so I have to agree with millz on that~^-^ I like the way its not about something stupid with them. =A=

There are very few types of music I hate, I love music, I studied music tech back when I was still in formal education. That leads to me being fairly open. I enjoy some Japanese music because
A) They have a lot of respect for classical instruments, but also stuff like the guitar and dont seem afraid to use them or give them prominent roles in a track if it works, regardless of genre (ironically guitar use seems more popular/prominent in Japanese music right now than in the UK which was one of the founding regions of the world in terms of punk/rock/metal/guitar focused music, but current mainstream music seems to have fallen out with it here)
B) Anime themes remind me of the shows Ive seen
C) Japanese as a language is extremely different to English which can be refreshing
D) There seems to be an openess to mixing instruments and styles not seen as much here
E) Stuff that does make it over here (admittedly thats a little unfair as itll usually be big/popular/good if it does) often seems a little more cohesive in terms of composition and melody than popular, western music.
At the end of the day the language is just part of the track, Ill also listen to stuff in other languages like German, as long as the music is good (I'm English)

Japanese music... before I was interested in Japanese culture and anime, I was interested in the language first. I think it was the first language non-IE language I've heard in my life. I listened to nothing but JRock back in 2004/2005, but have included a lot of other Japanese music over the years.
Japanese music lets me hear the language in a lot of different ways, depending on what genre I'm listening to. The sound of the music adds to the langauge, but the real treat for me is how the lyrics are saying something. There seem to be a lot of different ways to say something in the Japanese language. It's the same with English, but, I feel like it's very different in Japanese.
It's sorta hard for me to explain.

Why I listen to Japanese music is because most of the time the instruments and the vocals are actually synced and have harmony. Also the music doesn't sound like a cat and a raccoon making love in a blender, unlike most of the music that has been produced in the recent years in the U.S.

aside from my previous reasoning, I'm impressed in how they can sing those embarassing lyrics in rock songs. I'd probably laugh if they sang it by it's english meaning.

I like Japanese music because I don't discriminate with music. If it is good music, it is good music.

actually, i wasn't big on Japanese music myself until i heard ike ike by hinoi team, man that song has a beat! anyways i started to listen to different bands and songs after that. i wouldn't say Japanese music is better or worse then English music, but i'm definitely a fan of it now.

Most of the reasons I like Japanese music have already been stated by others. I like Japanese music because it calms me down like the song For You by Azu or it fills me with energy like Shunkan Sentimental by Scandal. Someone else said that because they do not understand Japanese music that the voices are more like vocal instruments and I agree with that. Japanese music to me is more positive in nature and lacks a lot of the negativity in American music. This goes for the lyrics in Japanese music as well. In essence, it's not music that brings you down, it's music that lifts you up. The only equal I have found to that sentiment among American music is country music. I am particularly a fan of Keith Urban and his songs Somebody Like You and Where the Blacktop Ends. It's a genre I have wanted to broaden my knowledge in but haven't had the time to do.
I am taking Japanese language because among other reasons, I want to understand the music more. I am always open to listening to new artists or any kind of music however I am kind of biased against American rap. I think the Japanese do rap better than Americans. American rap is constantly associated with violence, negativity, hatred, rape of women, etc etc. Some of the lyrics I have heard in American rap have frankly shocked me to the core as some are incredibly disturbing and many border on outright non-human. I've only heard of one Japanese song that I think falls into rap and that was Noizy Tribe by M.o.v.e.
I find most of my Japanese music through the subbed anime that I watch and when I find a song by a band I do not know I look up their other songs and listen to them.

I'll have to listen to It's gonna rain. I am only familiar with her song Ring a Bell("Kane wo Narashite"). I have heard both the english and Japanese version of it. It's also the opening song in the Japanese RPG Tales of Vesperia.

I like some Jap music for the same reason I like any music: It sounds good.This.
you don't need a particular reason to like Japanese music, if it sounds good for you, it's enough

-I'm open-minded
-I'm a music student
-I appreciate alot of music
-I've got interest in the language/country
-An old dream of mine (i don't know why)
-It's different from anything here in england
-No criticism e.g. 'My chemical romance are shit'. You won't get that with bands they don't know xD
-It's never sounded weird for me. ever.
-Unique (not so much over the internet, but definately unique for my school. Although this girl is starting it and she's doing it just because she finds asian boys hot.)
-Now i'm just used to it.
I can probably think of more reasons, but my ranting power has probably ran out today with this topic :P

I pondered this for a long time because I could never make people understand. I don't know a lot about the different parts to music but I finally realized that a big reason is the vocals. If you hum along with a song and kinda tune out the lyrics then you can hear some amazing sounds. Another guy said the flow of the lyrics and the guitar and I agree with that too. I also like it because unlike most other music, jpop makes me feel certain ways. Sometimes it makes me wanna rock out, sometimes it makes me happy when I am depressed, sometimes it calms me down inside, and sometimes it gives me energy when I am bored.
I guess pop has always kinda clicked with me. I am a fan of other non-japanese pop artists such as Nsync, Backstreet Boys, BBMak, and 98 Degrees but they don't click with me as much as jpop.

Interesting to listen to foreign music, no matter where it is from, but I like Japanese rock more than any other Japanese genre... addicting actually...
