I've downloaded a buttfuck of stuff. Including lots of movies and games. But I guess the Canadian ISPs don't give a shit.
I remember reading about how some severs are located in Canada to avoid the legal bullshit in US. Not sure if this still holds true. I don't remember any of my friends getting any type of letters of C&D either. Must be all the weed we smoke.

I don't get it though because you can easily encrypt your data with uTorrent. Why bother using proxy and all that stuff when you can basically torrent over an ssl line.

Peer 2 Peer file sharing is currently legal in Canada so long as you do not advertise the copy is available for download.

Canada has the greatest number of file sharers by percentage of population in the world according to a 2004 report by the OECD. In 2009 however it was found that Canada has only the tenth greatest number of copyright infringements in the world according to a report by BayTSP, a U.S. anti-piracy company.

It also depends on your ISP.
Some ISP don't give a shit.
Also try using a site that requires uploaders to be registered and that registering is usually closed and requires invites.

What'd you download, and more importantly, how'd you get out of jailtime?

Nope. Here in Holland, it's completely legal to download stuff like so, so they don't have the right to send me letters like that. Great, huh?

I've never gotten a letter, but for some reason, lately whenever I download using a torrent, my internet will go dead about half way through. It'll always come back seconds after I close the torrent, so I'm starting to get suspicious here.

The government has a hard enough time nabbing people for P2P networks transferring illegal files, without the cable companies getting involved. As it stands, cable companies are not allowed to interfere with your network because you use P2P software. If you could manage to prove that it is actually occurring then you could very well sue.

Everytime I open bittorrent, the internet connection dies after a minute or so. After I close it, it turns back on. DDL still works like normal, but torrents...

Nope and never will.
Government over here is too busy counting their earnings.
Though I do mostly get the legal stuff, there are those certain stuff that can only be acquired by torrent.

So what if they give me a warning? What'll they do? Drag me from the Philippines and put on court in America?

That's like with anime and manga. Everyone outside of Japan thinks they are safe, but that is a lie. IF the Japanese cared they could sue you through other countries' court systems, and might very well win. However, that takes too much time and effort for little potential payoff.

I haven't had anything bad like receiving a letter happen yet. However, I have been suspended twice from my University's wireless connection because my friend decided to download porn while I was in class. At least it was good porn.

Encrypting the data only protects against third parties eavesdropping. But yeah, if you're on some sort of private network and don't want anyone between you and it knowing what you're transferring, encryption works great.
If you have a box overseas that you do everything through, that would probably be pretty secure, but you're otherwise screwed in the event that someone really comes after you.
