And could someone explain what CCCP is and what it does and how do I use it

It's just a codec pack. Download and install.
opps I guess I missed that part. What makes cccp better than most media players that fansubbers create their fansubs to work specifically on cccp. When you have issues with other media players or codecs just install cccp and in most cases it will be solved. The real benefit is the subtitle renderer. If you have been using another program such vlc to watch and not mpc with somet codacs cccp comes with then you may have noticed that subs can look quite funky sometimes and typesetting can be downright awful. Instead of trying to get all technical Screenshots should be provided.
CCCP with MPC.
Spoiler:
VLC
Spoiler:
As you can see in a program such as vlc the fonts look slightly different and it seems their subtitle renderer can not read .ass tags. That mostly means any part where subs move or fade or just about any sign will be messed up. Even the normal episode font can be messeed up slighty. Lucky bakemonogatari was simple. I would love to see what this program does to advanced typesetting. Actually I just tossed in some softsubbed karaoke effects and the player would not even load it. Why do people even recommend this piece of trash. Also while finding that scene the program effd up more than enough and went all blocky on me. MPC is how the subbers intended to have it look. CCCP is very much worth installing.
Edit: Ironically I added some softsub karaoke effects to vlc and it ran better than vlc. But vlc cant even run the most basic typesetting properly. I have never been this confused in my life.

It's true that CCCP and K-lite Mega Codec pack can play most of the videos available on the NET. But still there's some weakness in it.
For me, when i downloaded a .mp4 typed video, a japanese drama, Hotaru no Hikari, the sound is out, but not the video. Well, MP4spilter is required to play that file. T__T
But as for normal files, CCCP and K-Lite Mega Codec pack are enough. That's my standard programs for playing video. Work like a charm.
Personally, i think HD files easier to get through torrents. animesuki and fansub.tv have plenty of SD and HD torrents. DDL is limited to 1 parallel download. That's sucks. I'm using utorrent, just download the torrents and insert it into my utorrent. Then go to bed, wake up next morning, downlaod done. Easy as pie. =D
One of my favorite DDL website is animetake.com , they have many anime and many mirror download. Mainly rapidshare, hotfile, and megaupload.

Honestly if you ask me torrents are almost always better for complete seasons and if you use a good site they are great for single episodes too although you can never beat the subbers site for the release time. Also i think torrents can be faster most of the time. So i guess in the end torrents are the best if you use the right site.
Also if your streaming the movies off your laptop the lag problem is most likely caused by a poor connection (either due to your router or your laptop). Your best bet is when your streaming movies use an Ethernet cable to connect your laptop to your router.
I was too lazy to read everything that was posted so if you have any other questions/need help with anything let me know.

Torrents most of the time for me. If I need to use DDL I prefer Mediafire links since you can use the DownloadThemAll addon on it.

Although getting there before the rush can be hard for some shows. Most sub groups seed torrents with 100mbit or higher seedboxes that seed incredibly fast and can max out the connection of so many peers at once. For popular shows even leechers may bring their box around making the torrent even faster.

To be honest, it's a lot less hassle with torrents than DDLing. You really don't have to worry about halted downloads due to internet crapping out or a server reset. Of course, DDL has the benefit of usually having the entire file, whereas torrents with peers but zero seeds can never get the 100% of the file.

The problem with thepiratebay.com is that while they offer a huge range of material and hard to find torrents, they don't have many seeds or no seeds for many torrents. BakaBT.com and demonoid.com do a much better job with seeder values and provide high quality content.

I like to use http://isohunt.com/ (torrents) because they will list other sites with the same torrent and you can add all the torrent sites into the tracker list and find more seeders. I also prefer the BitTorrent tracker as it is light weight and i can multi task easily with it in the background ( http://www.bittorrent.com/ ). As for a converter the Superconverter is hands down one of the best and it is free ( http://www.erightsoft.info/GetFile.php?SUPERsetup.exe ). If I can't find something on Torrent I just use IRC to download it (like all translators have an IRC you can download individual EP's from). Just look up the anime on http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=main and find the best translator or one you know to be good and go to there site, figure out what there IRC is, and download!
On a side note if you need codecs to play an anime the best compilation of codecs I have ever found is k-light ( http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm ) grab it if you can't get an anime to play.

i prefer torrents as you can download larger files without having premium accounts for rapidshare or MU/MP and also the files aren't split up, but i do use dl from time to time

About 8/10 downloads I do direct downloading. I only use torrents if I want to download massive collections and files(anime).
Some sites I use for torrents are Tokyotosho and isohunt.
I found that Animetake is also a good source for the latest and pretty recent anime so go check it out.

I go with torrents most of the time because i do not have to wait for 150 seconds before i can download something, plus I can pause and continue the download.
direct downloads like rapidshare doesn't allow me to do that. plus i do not have a rapidshare account. LOL

...I'm starting to regret going back to Torrents as I remembered how easy and fast it is to simply download directly... not to mention it eats up a huge chunk in my internet speed :/
...So i ask you people... Direct Downloads or Torrents? And why?

Try downloading a multi gigabyte video on a DDL server. If anything goes wrong you lose the whole file. With torrents you only lose the pieces that are currently being downloaded. Plus there is built in error correction with torrent files.

Torrents, becausse it's a more efficient way of downloading large files, and multiple files.
Think about a direct download. It may be easier, but one server, one machine, has to serve you that file. It's fine if it's just one person downloading, but when you get 10 or more people downloading that file or other things on that server it bogs the whole thing down. The person hosting that file has to have ridiculously high bandwidths to support all that. While a major company can support that, most open source or free software outlets will probably prefer torrents.
Since Bittorrent has you download pieces of the file or files from everyone else that is downloading that same file, you have the potential to get the file you need very quickly at a fraction of the cost of hosting a direct download. Of course this also dependent on how many people are actually seeding. =P

I'm a much bigger fan of direct downloads (namely newsgroups) than torrents. I just can't stand the upload requirements, and the fact that newsgroups especially will download as fast as my connection allows, makes it a very convenient platform for getting what I want.
