I never had to wear a school uniform, but I don't think I would care that much. Freedom of expression and all that aside, is wearing a school uniform that big of a deal?Thing is, who actually expresses themselves through their clothing? Next to nobody.
That argument is totally moot in my opinion, most people either don't care or are total fashion victims (so in a way they already wear a uniform, in one way or another).
I'm not in favor of school uniforms though, I dislike the ideas of uniforms in general.

I wore one from k-12 It's not that bad a thing really, my school uniform was a pair of khaki pants and a collard white shirt, nothing fancy, was still allowed to wear sneaker's and the like. Girls had to wear a khaki skirt that was on average about 2 inches below the knee, and a white blouse.
Everyone who says they are a bad thing, you really need to look at it, from the other side, sure you may have hated wearing them(at times I did myself) but then when you think about it, it actually cuts back on the divergence of social inequality, and makes everything a bit more uniform in standing while in an educational environment.

Hey from what i know schools have kids wear them because they are unable to control the kids..when kids are forced to wear things they start to go against it..

I dont think uniforms are such a hot idea imo. If your worried about color gangs then tell students not to wear that color

I support the idea of uniforms, for some parts. When I went to junior-high there was a lot of bullying going on against kids who didn't always dress in designer brands and expensive clothes, so in this case a uniform might have been a good way to at least stop bullying inside the school(It would just move elsewhere, but that wouldn't be the schools problem). Ofc this isn't the case in every school but you get my point.
And when I went to Vietnam as an exchange student we had to wear uniforms, and I liked it. Now this wasn't anything special, white shirt, black pants and a black jacket if it became a little chilly. Even if they didn't really approve of my shoulder-long bleached hair. D:

The only upside to my school's uniforms, is that the girls can only wear jeans or skirts. And when summer comes around...~

maybe u're right. I can't say it's good without having one uniform ever.
But without uniforms there's alot of competition like we had I remember the "Fishbone-time","Adidas-Time" till now "Prada-time"....kids without money could't buy all those clothes, they were a lot of bullying....

The wone I had to wear you could easily get at any clothing store. Khaki Pant's and a White Collard Shirt, for me was basically a white button up dress shirt, long sleeved during the winter and short during spring and late summer early fall

Uniforms are just a waste of time and money, and aggressively limit the ability for a lot of students to create their own social persona, and find out what they like and can be accepted for. It also makes it a lot easier to keep certain groups of the school together and to tell students apart. Especially because I lived in Vancouver, where a lot of the Asian girls looked the same to me, and god help me if they had started wearing uniforms. Back in my day the emo's all wore similar clothing, goths, preps, jocks, punks, grungies, Nerds and Geeks all did too. I was a nerd but I preferred the gothic style better, so I fit in with either group. It's just easier to class people, and makes it easier for other members of their group to stand up for each other(except for the emos/nerds/geeks). That's how it used to be anyways, the current high-school generation has no morals whatsoever.

I understand the thought behind school uniforms and everyone being equal but then it becomes harder to make friends with people you think you would hang with. Hell half my friends in college were made because they had a concert t-shirt on that I also owned.

But I can't help to see these catholic school girls in short skirts walking by my high school and stare at that awesome eye candy. Not to mention they go to an all-girls school. *drools*

I'll only agree to wearing a school uniform if they look good. Sadly, communist China doesn't have many schools with good uniforms...
But I agree with everybody about the girl's uniform. When they get the design right... *drool*

Growing up and attending schools in gang ravage neighborhood; I like school uniforms. For us men, it meant navy blue or black pants and a white shirt with dress shoes; no gang colors allowed. Women had to wear a navy blue skirt, white blouse and brown or black dress shoes.
In both public and private schools, it did cut down on violence inside the schools and did lower some of the violence outside the school during the hours from 3 pm to 8 pm.

Never had to wear one. If I ran a school, I wouldn't apply one. I have heard some schools have a uniform but it isn't mandatory to wear it, which defeats the purpose of a uniform.
As for the expression part, kids don't have to express themselves with clothes. They express through actions and with talking.
