What's most important to you in hentai?
What is the defining thing that makes a particular hentai good?

Definitely the artwork. For some reason, I really don't pay much attention to the text involved in a doujinshi when I'm "doing the deed" so to speak. Must be a primal instinct that kicks in. Also, if i focus on the text, and the translation is horrible, (even though the art is good), I lose my momentum/get completely turned off.

Artwork is the PRIMARY! Deciding Factor....
THe story can be of Stellar Quality, but if the Artwork suck I'll delete it without reading it.

Basically theres Story and Art
If it has good art but the story sucks you won't even get why the hell they're doing it
If it has good story but the art is crappy then its hard to understand whats happening
so its a balance to there but still I love good stories so story got my vote
and btw not being an Ahole but uncensored isnt always perfect

Artwork definitely. No matter how good the story and other aspects of the manga are, if the art sucks, I'm not reading. Sure every artist has their own style, but people who draw doujinshis obviously have more than enough time in their hands, so they should all practice drawing the characters before starting a comic. It annoys me when it's like a whole different character in the clothes of the character she's supposed to be. So yeah, art is basically the biggest thing I look for in a doujinshi.

Story has higher points for me then followed by artwork. An understanding of the premise, the build up of the story and the conclusion either makes it an excellent read or makes you rage so much you want to kill the author. Other factors doesn't affect me that well.
A good artwork just makes it easier to fap.

I personally say Artwork. its the first thing you see in a Hentai. it was makes you read it in the first place. then the story would come after.

I really think its the characters... But I suppose the story might include that, so... yeah, that.

WELP. I meant to vote for Story, but somehow managed to click No censorship.
How dumb.
But I wanted Story simply because that's what get's me absorbed into the hentai. It's what makes me bond with the characters and the whole manga/visual novel that much more appealing and entertaining.

If it's manga then it must have a good story. Sure it isn't great fapping material if the artwork is poor, but I tend to enjoy reading it more if it has a good story to it. It doesn't have to be all lovey dovey cause I have a few favorites that I tend to get a good laugh at. Artwork is important as is language so I can read it but I figure that the better the story the more likely I will read it.

Predominately, artwork. If you want something more likely to be story oriented, then you can always go for erotica novels and the like. Don't get me wrong, I like happy sex involving good stories, but I still prefer artwork over anything else (in H-manga of course).

"Beauty is held in the Eye of the Beholder" which is true since its porn. So artwork would have to win in my book. But Second would have to be story line because I do care about it a lot since it dictates the story itself. Then Would have to be language to read the story, followed by censorship, and color.

The Story, the artwork. I don't mind if its censored but I'd still like to see it uncensored every now and again

The keyword is Hentai.
I believe the main purpose of hentai is to provide a medium to fap. Sure, there could be a manga artist that wasn't satisfied with drawing just ecchi manga and moved to hentai, but that's not usually the case (Ecchi mangas usually have such shallow stories, anyway. They're basically the hentai for the underage). I interpreted the question as this: if everything else is shit, what can you still fap to? My answer: Artwork.
Personally, when I'm browsing hentai, I look at the preview image and decide if it looks good enough to continue. If it's not in English, I just look at the pictures. If the story sucks, I just look at the pictures. If the pictures suck, I find another hentai.
The cool thing about this medium is that the artwork is part of the story. The words just guide the story, but it's still there without them. Facial expressions, actions, camera angels, backgrounds, foregrounds, etc. are all a part of the story that non-visual stories have to describe with words. By having good artwork, you automatically have a decent story.
Some of you say that censorship kills the artwork and, thus, it is the most important thing, but by saying that, you admit that the artwork is key. If censorship kills the artwork, then the artwork is no good. While some censorship is really bad (e.g. having a white bar for the penis), it's usually not that big of a deal.
I think color vs BW is a silly thing to argue over. There can be beautiful things drawn in color just as there can be when drawn in BW. I think they're styles of art and attempting to compare them is like attempting to compare genres of music.
A language barrier is a stupid reason to dislike a hentai. If the hentai is any good (and even if it's not), someone will eventually translate it; in the mean time, you can still fap to the images.

You still not being very specific...
The story in a EROGE/Manga/Doujin/H-anime are all VERY different in terms of how much they matter..
An eroge with mediocre graphics can still be amazing with the story/gameplay..
But a 20 page doujinshi it really doesn't matter and it's more about the artwork..
