There has been a prediction every year for hundreds, if not thousands, of years now. Pat Robertson himself predicted that the world would end in 1982, and people still seem to think of him as an important Christian figure... for reasons I'll never figure out. The guy is as crooked, and as close to The Beast as they come, but enough of that.Didn't Ol' Pat Urge his viewers to assassinate the Leader of Venezuela a few years ago as well?

The only way the world could possibly end is if the sun went super nova which isn't predicted to happen for another few hundred billion years. Or if the Earths magnetic field disappeared which could only happen if the earth stopped rotating which is impossible as long as their is still a gravitational field of influence. Humanity could still end up killing themselves. But I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

This thread has been done so many times. No the world isn't going to end. But I would find it funny if it does. It's a slap to the face to every single religion out there, and to every scientist. If the world does end, it pretty much means every religion is wrong and that even with such vastly advance technology, modern scientists still lost to the Mayans that lived over 4000 years ago.

[size=12] [/h]Well on of the apostle said that the end is near 2 millennium later still the end is near. And so the trend continues.......
by the way 80 percent of the people who said this is already dead!! ha ha good for them they did not saw the end........

December 2012 is when the next solar storm hits the Earth (happens every 3 years). Scientists fear that this one could be the next "perfect" solar storm. The last perfect solar storm to hit the Earth was back in 1960 when it fried all of the telegraph lines.
Imagine what it could do today in our heavily dependent technological society.
Dun dun dun.

Only massive stars will have a super nova.
And what the heck do you mean few hundred billion years?
The universe is only around 14-16 billion years old. A star that will have a super nova at the end of it's cycle does not have a long lifespan. They usually last for a few hundred million years.
A star that is very large will become a black hole after a super nova.
Our sun is too small for any of that. What will happen to our sun is that a few billion years from now our sun will use up it's hydrogen and expand which may possibly engulf the earth or just the other inner planets. Later as it uses up it's helium it will start to lose mass and shrink over tens of thousands of years until it becomes a white dwarf.
This is why people need more science education....

Another over blown myth. The cycle happens approximately every 11 years by the way, but varies. And it is impossible for scientist to predict solar storms more than a few days in advance.
If you had the time to actually google search "2012 solar storm debunked" you would know that....

Ofc it's bullshit, the world is surely not going to end overnight.
As for the mayan-theory part; This is bullshit too, but the mayan calendar does end. Year 2012 will be the end of the 13th Bakun time-period. And since mayan culture is mostly dead no one has been around to made/name a time-period to follow this one up. Thus the calendar does end, as it has done quite a few times in the past.

The Mayans didn't even accurately predict the end of their own civilization. Why the fuck would I take their word on it this time?

What's kind of sad is that you can show up and down that stuff like day-and-date doomsday scenarios are ridiculous and never happen at all, but there are a lot of people who are just predisposed to thinking that way anyway. If it's not one thing then it's another. Deep down it's probably rooted in some powerful anxieties or even chemical imbalances in the brain. Also I guess it can make somebody's dull life seem more interesting.

In the past century the world has been officialy declared (as in just not some random guy, someone more substantial saying it) to end at least 10 times. Unfortunately for those people it's yet to happen.
Even the Mayans have said that the 2012 prediction for the end of the world is bullshit, so just keep living your life.
If it happens (Highly highly unlikely), then likely noone will even notice it and it will just end in the blink of an eye. If When it doesn't happen, then look we survived another predicted apocolypse, we're awesome.

This whole end of the world in 2012 is just stupid.
Calendar in my room ends on december 31st, 2009. Doesn't mean the world's gonna end that time.
Come on. Even the Mayans won't believe it.

I've read some stuff and they say they have misunderstood the Mayan calendar.
There won't be 2012 nor 2012 movie since it was cancelled due to misunderstanding of Mayan's calendar. The Mayan's calendar was said to end 2220 >.>
EDIT: I FUKKEN HAD TO GET 667 POST TO SAY THIS SHIT!

Its all just a bunch if bullshit I will treat that day like any other fucking day. except I will laugh because they were wrong.
Mayan calander it's all just bullshit, they could predict the fucking world coming to an end but not that they were coming to an end.

The mayans simply didn't have the time to make their calendar go on for all eternity...Eternity isn't exactly a matter of great importance, in the sense that its a long fucking time. However, there are inscriptions about October 21, 4772 and other dates beyond December 21, 2012. Logically, people are ignoring something important if they're saying 2012 is the end of the calendar. Its not implausible to think that the world will end at some point, in fact its rational. Its inevitable that the sun will consume Earth, unless its been destroyed already or we don't go completely insane and find a way to move the entire planet to a "safer location."

All it would do, if anything, is create a scenario where something could happen. We've been warned, so all we to do is not destroy the planet or eradicate all life on it.

The fact that there are inscriptions that extend beyond the 13th b'ak'tun means that while the cycle may reset, the calendar continues. While everyone has been so obsessed with Dec. 21, 2012 being the beginning of a new b'ak'tun, they've either downplayed, or completely ignored the beginning of the current one. The date of the beginning of the b'ak'tun we're living in was either the 11th, 12th, or 13th of August, 3114 BCE. I can't be totally sure, but I doubt people woke up and said, "damn, the end of the world was pretty serious, but at least I got a good night's sleep."
People who are using the Mesoamerican long count to rationalize their doomsday theories completely disregard that beyond b'ak'tuns there are piktuns. There's also the issue that those who've done extensive research on the calendar aren't even sure whether the end of this b'ak'tun will reset the cycle or begin a 14th b'ak'tun.

I'm not gonna pretend that I know everything about the Mayans, but whether or not they could predict such events in detail, I can say that its highly unlikely that they were caught completely off guard by the collapse of the civilization that they spent centuries developing. That's not even considering the fact that they were living there. Learning a little bit about the Mayans before you start talking out of your ass about them is worth considering, but you should at least use some fucking common sense.

The Mayan's calendar was said to end 2220 >.>Unless it comes from the mouth of someone who has intimate knowledge of the Mayan calendar that can prove definitive archaeological evidence wrong, its bullshit to me. Hopefully, when people realize that 2220 is wrong too, they'll be able to admit their mistake as easily as they did when they thought the end was 2012. Of course, I'm only talking about some people, because others would much rather wait for the world to end than to admit they made a mistake.
I guess that's good enough for now. While some people are irritated that there is another 2012 discussion, I'm quite relieved. Its not like I've been on enough to actually take part in them and when I do get a chance they're in chaos. It feels good to be able to provide something.

I'd be more concerned over the fact that this is one of the longest lasting, low, solar cycles we've had in decades. It is wrecking havoc on some radio transmissions.

However, scientists estimate in about 5 billion years the sun will become a red giant with a heat index of over 100 million kelvins, and will expand beyond the Earth's orbit and threaten to swallow the Earth whole, and whatever life remains on the planet. Although at the same time about 30% of the mass of the sun will be lost, so it will push the orbits of the planets outward so Earth might just be spared, but it would certainly be a whole different kind of planet. <.<;;
As for your time estimate I'm afraid not. The sun is at about half of it's cycle right now. The sun won't last more than about 6 billion years and it will die.
