Being in love with 2D characters. Right or Wrong?

I know it isn't an analytical diagnosis of the situation, but to me the saying "whatever floats your boat" fits perfectly. I'm an extremely open-minded person, so this is fine by me. Who, what or how a person chooses to express their love is their own business. I don't like that society thinks it is their responsibility to denounce how someone expresses love, and trying to hide it under a veil of "we're here to help you." You're not "here to help you" You're here to say "you don't love like I do, and I think it is wrong." Why not just say that? It is much easier, and at least then you are being truthful.
A person's opinions are one thing, and you are completely entitled to have them and share them, but don't try to convert anyone to think the same way you do if they don't wish it; if they want help that is one matter, but I get the distinct impression this guy nor a lot of examples want a person's help or pity. They just want to be left alone.

i mean, i like my anime bishounen and all but i don't love them enough to forget about real, live guys.Hmm.. Makes me wonder.. Do you guys (not just Zeph) think that loving 2D means forget about the real?.. If I Loved 2D so much, does that means I don't give a damn about anyone in real life?.. Loving something doesn't always mean to forget something..
I know what it feels to love the real girls, and what it feels to love 2D girls is the same.. Even if I love 2D girls to that extent, it doesn't mean that I'm sicko who forgot about the real world and live in delusion, so don't judge us as a sick men who live in their own world just because of a mere things like this.. I'm probably better than most of you in real life anyway.. >_>

Guys, guys... the man in the video needs help. He NEEDS help. Resorting to inanimate objects for "affection" is an escape from reality. Whatever the guy says or claims, deep down inside he is NOT a happy and fulfilled man. How can some of you not see this? To those of you who claim that "real women are bitches/money-grubbers I prefer 2D girls you don't get this problem with them", I have this to say to you: get outside. Now. You need a real relationship that will root you in reality. Some of you are even acknowledging what I'm saying by stating "I have low self-esteem", "I'll never get a girlfriend". Christ. If I was your real-life friend, I would be deeply concerned.Note this and know how many people like 2D girls.

You cant say that as truth, its more of an opinion. Some people actually think that and they CAN get real girls but they dont want to or that they dont care. They just prefer 2D. Its your opinion, but dont try to make it sound like its something that everyone should follow.
hey that's just a game

That's a very biase video in my point of view.
I'm into 2-D. Yet i'm not a otaku (fine, a semi-otaku if it pleases the your views more but definatly not a standard one.)
There's a limit how that can utter throw all sort of nonsence at loving 2-D when 3-D itself has proven so many problem that're un-rivaled as compared to 2-D
Less conflicts with this topic can really be achieve if ppl can just think like this ...
"we hate realit, you like reality. So we're square. You get more 3-D women/men for yourself while i get to whore on 2-D"
It's fair trade, co-existing is possible~!

3D and 2d are two different worlds in my book. Liking a 2d character like one of the many in my avatar has it's place and time. It's kinda fun to imagen stuff like that and think about it sometimes.
It's like when you read a book or play video games. You just want to be engrossed in it and take a break from real life stuff.
It seems like they were just hating on what they saw from the picture of the guy.
Maybe if they interviewed more normal looking people they might think otherwise. But then again their "normal" and were not so we must be in the wrong.
No one talks shit to me about me liking Yuffie around here (meaning where I live). Knocked out and broke a guys nose for trying though. Got kicked from my dorm in the process.

i too fall in love with some 2D character.but the interaction sometimes are not complete.i need a real women in my life too.i need their touch and various interaction that cant be made with 2D character.to fall in love with a 2D character?i can be like that but for some reason.i have tried to find my women but still no till today.so 2D love for me is just a replacement,a really really harsh decision in replacement if you cant find your own love for the time being.not forever.i really dont have a girlfriend but i tried.i tried but then i find out it just a one-sided love.i thought that she didnt have any interest in me.its depressing, right?but thats the challenge if you want to find love.2D love is just a harsh replacement to me if i cant find one.thats my point.

Frankly I'm kind of irritated at this in a way. I belive in the diffrence between "Mata in se" and "Mata prohibita". Mata in se is basicaly "bad in of itself" such as murder or of course child molestation and the like and mata prohibita is only bad because people say so or it's on a piece of paper. Maybe I'm just too libertarian but I don't like the idea of people saying things like "obey my command cause I'm right and you're always wrong".

This is one of the reasons why I hate America. There is no need to discriminate based on what some stupid woman said, do you think I've met that woman? Do you think I agree with her ideas? Absolutely not, it's ridiculous for you to hate me because you think I'm associated with that her, which I'm not btw, even though we might live in the same country.

For me, being in love with 2D characters is no different than being emotionally swayed by good music, poetry or any other form of art. Anime is a form of art that fans can easily express their admiration for. Not only that, the admiration for anime is very flexible in which it can branch off in various ways (merchandise, fan fiction, cosplay conventions, etc.). So its only natural for people who aren't as interested to see anime fans as obsessive over the characters. Sure, there are some fans who take their admiration for the characters too far, but that's a risk that can be found in any situation where an individual is fixated on a certain aspect of life. I didn't bother to watch the video, so that's all I can say about this issue.

Naah, I don't think it's wrong.
But I guess what you feel for a 2D character, isn't really love.
Maybe something a little less than love.

Oh man, i lived in Japan for a long time but I have seen some stuff over there. Seriously, there are so many people who are crazy about their 2D lovers and are pretty much psycho. Okay so you might think a 2D girl is really cure or beautiful but I don't understand how you could fall in real love with them. Hell, if I could live in this so called 2D world where anything is possible, I'd Lupin-dive right into my computer and join my yomes.

Right and wrong are perspectives. It's a matter of like and dislike or love and hate.
And I like/love 2D characters.
There is nothing "wrong" with 3D people loving/liking 2D people.

It is OK if you're in love with 2D character.
But you must realize that you're in 3D world.
Like it or not, you must face the real world.

Not for a single moment do these people think of the possible fact people prefer 2D to 3D because they just prefer it that way and aren't interested in 3D. But no, they are 'psycho people in denial and with no spine to hit on real woman'.The psychologist in me would like to point out that people who like 2D girls and are not interested in 3D, real life women are a little bit crazy. Though the psychologist in me doesn't want to use the word "crazy."
Maybe there is some sort of physiological defect that can make a person not be attracted to real people, but I'd say in 95+% of the cases, it stems from a mental or emotional disorder.
If I found out that my friend didn't like real women and liked to (seriously) pretend that he was married to a fictional character, I'd try to get him some help. Because something's wrong there.
That's not to say that it is necessarily wrong to prefer 2D women over 3D women. We've all had our hearts broken, and it's impossible for an image to tell us that she just wants to be friends. But if a person completely abandons all possible real life relationships, then that's crossing the line.
Also many anime/manga females have no physical flaws. Big racks, round asses, not a single blemish on their skin, and many have flirtatious attitudes. They fit the idea of a perfect woman for many people. While nothing is wrong with admiring this you are absolutely right when you say people still need real life relationships. Also to add to that: No one is perfect so don't expect to find someone who fits with the physical characteristics of anime/manga characters. I'm not saying nobody will ever see/find someone gorgeous they just won't find anyone who is totally perfect in every possible way.

Or one's particular fetish cannot be reasonably replicated in RL. I would be unquantifiably happy if I could live with one of Jessica Elwood's characters for the rest of my life (not even sex, just kissing and cuddling would do it for me). but alas, that kind of furry is simply impossible, so in 2D land I will remain. but I can separate real life from fantasy. I just wish desperately they could blend a little.
