Can You Be Happy Without Money?

Well, you can do a lot of things. For example, you can hire awesome lawyers and you are more likely to get away with murder, you can get the best medicine and are more likely to get away with terminal diseases. You can employ people to work for you and fire those that dont respect you or dont listen to you. Besides, there are enough people that are willing to do pretty much anything to get a share of that pie.
So, you mean Bill Gates didnt achieve anything? Sure, his family was rich to begin with...but now he's super rich.

No, money equals power equals achievement equals happiness. Its just some propaganda bullshit poor people got told or told themselves. How exactly does money equal power? It reminds me of how people in the past thought that (physical) strength equaled power. Sure, you can do a lot of things if you have money or strength, but it's not as if either one gives you immutable power that lets you do whatever you want. Even if you have all the money in the world, it won't make everyone respect you or listen to you. It won't make you live longer than any poor person, since accidents and terminal conditions can hit anybody.
Also, it's already been said in this thread, but money by itself does not equal achievement. A lot of rich people are born into wealth, and even if they work hard to keep their vast amount of money, they still don't know what it is like to work hard from the bottom to reach the top.
money is equal power. thats reality. what you said also applies to people who have no money. so i think its way way much better to have money. people can be happy even without money but this also applies to the one with money and i bet they can be much happier.

Sure if everything was free <.<.....but seriously it is getting harder and harder in society to be happy without having money due to the stress of not having it I mean if you can be together with your loved ones that should be enough but the desire to protect and shelter that loved one is very strong so no I don't think I could....must provided for your loved ones right.

To some point you could be happy without money, and at another point it gets tough. I mean in today's society it would be harder to live without money for food, shelter or something to wear.
But all in all if I can live of a handful of money a month, Im happy. :D

If you're like Tarzan though and the jungle you're on got so much fruits and easy to catch meat(is there any?). Things such are sex, strength, natural resources although can be gotten by money, they can also be free. But with money invented, y'know, people import food around the world.

Happiness is a 80/20 split between purpose and money. Money can make you happy but, you will never stay happy with money. By that I mean materialism. Every time some shiny comes out you'd want it but, quickly get bored of it and want something else.
Now, money as in economic liberty? You can easily be satisfied with your life if you have enough money to acquire what you want but, you sacrifice the richness of living if you concentrate solely on money.
I'll give you all a little background story:
I come from a rich/upper middle class family. I was given everything I wanted in life because my parents knew what it was like to not have anything and they didn't want me growing up like they did as it was a miserable existence. My father was homeless and on his own at 15 after his home caught fire and his mom was severely burned (3rd degree over 80% of her body) also a majority of his family died in the fire as well. He worked hard, joined the military during Korean conflict, eventually opened not one but, two businesses (a mechanic shop for big rigs & a bar). My mother came from a large and completely dirt fucking poor family. Her mom worked two jobs, slept 4 hours a night for years while the older kids did housework and eventually worked to support the family.
Maybe I'm sentimental because my mom has always told me to be thankful for what I have instead of regretful for what I don't but, I think people can be truly happy
as long as people have enough money to fulfill their purpose in life.

No i can't. There's SOME happiness-related things in this world that can only be bought with money. Internet subsciption in your room for one.
But at the same time, there are some happiness that can't be bought with money.
So can i be happy without money? No.
Can i be happy with money only? Nah.
Happiness, it's all in the balance between material(money) and immaterial(love, etc.).

Yes, you can, but here's a question:If you were happy, what would you aim for?
I, personally, find contentment in achieving the next step---doing another pushup, removing another second, learning the next skill, and the like. When I get to where I want to be, will things truly be better?
Hence, poor people being happy, they have a place to go, an dream to hope for.
This is also my explanation for all the unhappy rich people out there, if you have everything you could ever need/want, then what fills your day?
I'm not the best to judge, lower middle class, but I don't think money defines happiness, I think happiness is caused by running like hell from hardship.
I DON"T KNOW YOU BUT YOU MY FRIEND ARE MY NEW HOMEBOY!!!!

For most people yes. But for me, NO. No money means no computer. No computer means no hentai and manga. No hentai and manga mean DEATH O.O

You have a great story there. I apologize if I come off as an asshole/idiot.
Back to subject: It is possible to live without money but subtract basic necessities. Because of course one cannot live without food and so one needs money but does not need it to be happy. But then again, most people these days just need "stuff". The ones who can afford them would like to enjoy the luxury of objects such as electronics or clothes. Therefore today's society makes it harder to live without buying anything they want and not need.

The world we have build now are based on money. It is hard to live in this world without money. Money have a value that have big influence. So if should live "happy" without money so do i think i have to steal stuff to live.... If i live happy depend how fast i can shake of the guilt of my brain.

Sadly money is important in this society.
Sure u can be poor and happy but everyone longs to have money to make life easy but an easy life isn't a happy one but to most it is, it just depends on what makes u happy.

Eh. It's possible.
My mom grew up in a place where they had no electricity, the way they made food was killing nearby chickens and cooking that. Her brothers would do odd-jobs for very little cash, while along with her sisters - would cook and clean. I honestly believe she was way happier in her country with that lifestyle rather than living here. She even wants to move back there. So, I guess that's a perfect example of being happy without money. It was 12 kids all together, living in one house - mostly all of them had to sleep on the floor. They got up at early in the morning to do what they had to do and they were pretty happy just doing that. She saw it as a very simple lifestyle, which is different from how she says she lives now.
I grew up very spoiled, since my dad knew how to manage money and grew up in the upper middle class. When I heard how my mom grew up I was surprised she prefer her old lifestyle to the new one with excess money, weekly mall visits to buy whatever she wanted, more time to herself, etc.
From the way I grew up, I wouldn't be happy poor but it is possible to be happy and poor.
