Do you believe in "GOD" ,and the "Great" beyond ?

There's too much confusion between belief and thought in this thread.
Thinking - utilizing the facility of logic and reason
Believing - faith
Belief is pretty useless to be honest. And I don't want to hear that the degree of a possibility somehow corresponds with how true it is.

Wuaa, mindfuck. And of course you're right again, as you can't believe in both per se. But by acceptance to the possibility that either may be right it should - in my opinion - not be "no belief in either of them."
This might just be me being biased since I do think that some theistic views to be more likely but I can't fully believe in this since I have no proof.
At the same I can in no way just discard the idea that atheism might be right, so I do believe in it to, up to a certain degree. But I don't have blind faith in either of them. I suppose that you could say that I don't believe in the atheistic views and only accept them as possibilities, but to me that would mean that I still carry some faith in it.

Since the begining of the times, believe in something higher than yourself was to explain the things that people can understand of the world. Just take a look on our history, greek gods, jews, catholic...
I going to try to explain how my mind thinks about this topic (sorry if i have some grammatic fails)
Universe is make of casualities, the evolution is still running, universe is big, like everything, there was the begining, so where was the begining? That is the meaning of god for me (something like Bender meets on the space on Futurama... maybe), the begining of everything. If there is a God or something, he never do something for anybody.
I dont belive on religions, every religion (like greek gods, the stories of the bible, etc) was made to try to explain on some way the meaning of life, something to give hope to the people (or use on their own benefit).
If someday we meet people from another planet, for sure they will have their own religions...
Do you really think we are going to know the answer of something like that? And anybody arent going to go back from the death to tell the truth about this things.
Understand what i was trying to say?

Enlarge everything; leave Earth, our Solar System, our Star Cluster, our Galaxy, etc.... even till we leave the Universe. I won't be shocked to find out that there are more than one Universe and ours is just one in the infinite number of Universes out there. Continue farther, and because I don't know what to call a group of Universes (Unilaxy?), I'm gonna make my point now.
The farther away from Earth you go, the more superior we feel, knowing beyond the Universe and all, but still there will be something we would not be able to explain. We may learn about it in the future, but the more knowledge we find, the larger the question will get. The question "What's beyond that?" will keep reappearing, and this constant search for the true answer is similar with a person's search for God.
We may give our own answers, but there are other explorers besides us. It is highly possible we will never reach the answer, and it is understandable to give up (atheists), but others (theists) will continue the search for the Ultimate Unknown.

Masturbating to animated figures fucking may sound ridiculous, but people still do it. Sorry if it sounds corny (it does), but its the best analogy I can come up with.

Yea, as if sitting around and believing in god all day will actually get you any closer to an "answer."

Christian, believe in God and Jesus being his son. Not into a lot of the dogma of the church though, basically because there can be radically different interpretations of Christianity's rules, so instead I study it and choose my own.
As a fellow christian once told me, "We have more denomination in Christianity than McDonald's have Big Macs."
But I will admit, no matter what religion you are, or Agnostics and Athiests. There is one thing we all share.
Our biggest idiots get the most air time on TV news...
To tell you the truth I think that is true with ANY group...

Wow, didn't think another thread like this would appear >_>.
On topic: Frankly, I don't know what to believe. I believe there was a creator, but I'm not sure if he still exists or not.

I believe in God, but not religion. Religion is a by product of man and thus shouldn't be followed.
Some people point out the fact that God allows bad things to happen. Which I counter with because If someone wish for you to die and you wish to live what would God do?
Some say he made us flawed. Which I agree. However what would be perfect. What would be the meaning of existence if you had everything, knew everything, got along with everyone equally. It as I am created now, would seem like a pointless meaningless existence.
What if our very existence is nothing more than for God's entertainment. Likened to A Sims game where some created us, has control over our world, but for nothing more than God's own interest. Can I really be annoyed at that when I've done the same with countless video game characters myself?

I simply dont believe in religion all together becuase I feel it is an escape for people that are to weak to deal with the problems they face, so they go and pray for some greater force to help them out, when they should just help themselves. (BTW I dont mean to offend anyone by that, I am simply stating my beliefs, so dont come barking at me please!)

"Someone else has already said it best. So if you can't top it, steal from them and go out strong."
I envy those with polytheist beliefs. I actually considered myself a polydeist for a very short period of time (less than a week) to see how I felt about it, but I'm sticking with the just the Creator.
If the "weak" comment didn't offend anyone, it's the implication that their rebut will be received as nothing more than a "bark" that may do the trick.
I consider prayer blasphemous if the intent is to ask/demand god to change the laws of nature, "his plans," w/e. But I pray somewhat often as a means of calming myself. It's like a brief pep-talk to myself and allows me to get my mind focused. If a loved one is dying in the hospital (for an example; not my situation; not trying to play the pity card), is there really much more you can do; is there any other way for people to "help themselves?"

To kill a god is easy, forget everything about it and
eventually it will disappear and it's equall as killing a god. I have already kill my god right now i'm with the demon nation.

I'm Shinto. So I believe in many Gods. So to speak. And when I die I just float around the house and protect the family. In simple terms.

I believe in myself, does that count?Yep that sure does :) unless you believe in the idea of a God, then you ARE God...
Anyway, I was a christian til about Year 11 in school (went to a lutheran school so you can see how i started questioning everything lol). I started to get interesting in things like genetics, evolution, genes etc. I cant explain exactly how my viewpoint changed (cant remember), but I just didnt feel comfortable with who I was saying that I believed in something. I was brought up in church and just had the idea drilled into me that you had to at least BELIEVE in Jesus or your going to hell. It took a lot of courage to finally come out as an athiest, but when I did I finally felt like I had become who I was born to be, I knew the real me.
Since then, ive never looked back. Im not angered by religion though, but facinated by it. How it can inspire, motivate, but also cause terrible fear and destruction. Its all so interesting, yet strange to me at the same time, like fandom for the Twilight series.
So, nope dont believe in any sort of God/Gods/Deitys and you can only see what I call the 'Great beyond' if you game for 72 hours straight.

Short and simple answer: No. Long Answer: I don't see the point in this "living forever" stuff, that sounds like it would get seriously boring after awhile anyway. Plus I find the god that many worship to be a tyrant and asshole, just saying. what is it like to be atheist?
Makes me wonder, what is it like to be in Fakku (Hentai, Lolis, Incest, Tentacles, y'know, those kinds of stuff) and still be a Roman Catholic.
