Second, we Americans were brought up, raised in this society by our parents, and most of those inherate that stuck up attitude that I myself witness. Not really our fault, but one of the many ways that the Gov't controles us/How does the government control us?
Think of laws and such, but more "under the radar" if you will. One main way is through the media. Most, if not all news stations, are loyal to either the republicans or democrates. Point is, they are loyal to the government, and they only let us see what they want us to see. You remember the whole Wiki leaks thing? That's a prime example of what they don't want us to know, so they controle how much we know to properly keep us in check. With the news being our prime source of knowlege, which will always portray America as 'All Mighty', makes a lot of people patiotic, to totally arrogent and naive
The US does not control us. If the US controls us then we would not have freedom of speech and the government would kill any protester who is against their actions or their policy. Only a totalitarian government or dictatorship controls their people and the only country I can think of is North Korea. People are patriotic because they love their country. Most Americans are arrogant because we used to be a superpower and we were one of the greatest. The news yes is a source of knowledge ,but so is history.
Where the heck did you get kill off anyone that defys the gov't? I said that that the way the gov't controles us is subtle, under the radar. Meaning, it's not kill whoever. The examples you used is dictatorship, where the gov't forcefullt controles the people's lives. The US gov't controles the way we think. What better way to controle a populace than to have their train of thought lead to only one direction? If you remember Pearl Harbor, then you would know that the next day, the recruitment offices were filled with people who wanted payback. With the media, the gov't could very easily replicate that by twisting the very truth of something, or limiting how much we know of a situation.
The way you think of controle is too strait forward. You have to understand that people have been getting smarter, and can slip almost anything under our noses.
How does the government control the way we think? How do you know that the recruitment offices were filled with people after Pear Harbor?
Dude, for the Pearl Harbor, who doesn't know that? It's basic US history. As for the first question, are you reading my posts? I'm stating them above man. To me, as it sounds right now, it's like your begging the question.
I am tired of arguing you have your opinion and I have my opinion
I think that is for the best. I don't think that I can continue with all these quotes still on.

WWI and WWII could have easily become wars of conquest and for all purposes was on the Russian side. especially WWII where the feelings of the Allies could have been to simply dissolve Germany completely and take the territory for themselves to prevent the out break of a third World War. also in the Pacific The U.S. easily could have taken Japan for its own. Looking back it would have been a smart move too because it would have made the U.S. even more of an economic super power.
The only thing stopping or slowing down that opinion was and is public opinion. The fear that public officials have of their jobs being taken away is the only thing keeping dangerous feelings like that at bay.
You had some very valid points and i hope you continue to. I personally prefer to hear the opinions of non-Americans because i hear the opinions of Americans every day and it gets annoying.
go to the thread "the REAL world" and watch the video. if you want to know how america would do when controlling other nations, look at Liberia. all i can say is if that is any indication of the influence of america then the would is screwed
I am a U.S. citizen and in my opinion one of the biggest reasons why the U.S. does what it wants and gets away with it is because we have actually used the atomic bomb, and not once, but twice. Currently the most powerful weapon known to man and we are the only ones that have dared to use it. The day the another country decides to use an atomic weapon is the day WWIII breaks out, and only then is it when the U.S. will stop trying to dictate the world.
Now then, back on topic. No I do not hate the U.S. I do, however, hate many of the policies in place in our government. Basically the government tries to follow the constitution to a tee, and anything it doesn't directly specify is free game. That is unfortunately why congress has the ability to raise their wages whenever they please. I also think that there hasn't been a good president in a while. Hopefully that will change in 2012. I'm feeling pretty hopeful for Ron Paul. He seems to say what he actually thinks instead of trying to use pretty words so we hear what we wanna hear. Just look up any video interview of him on youtube. He has my vote in 2012.

I do hate the U.S for many reasons. (I cannot write all of them because they might be offending.)
first I hate it because every person I meet from the U.S would be aether an ass. an idiot. a racist. or isolated from the world.
second I hate the media that they broadcast to the world. because they are aether news that are incorrect only to influence the world. shameless actions (like dancing nude females) that could be easily viewed by children. or somehow trying to show the world that the U.S is most superior then all the other countries in every way.
frankly the only thing that I like about the U.S is the education.... nothing else.
(If I have offended anyone please inform so that I would edit my post.)

I don't hate the US but I do hate where it's headed. Companies have gotten too big to fail, billionaires buying dinner spots at the white house with the president. In the early 1900 business people and corporations used to fear the government, now I feel like the US is the catcher and the c.e.o's of large corporations are the pitchers in bed.
Microsoft, Facebook, Apple are all monopolies by the bare bones definition of what a monopoly is yet they go unchecked. Internet freedoms are slowly taken away in the guise of copy right protection. An example is; if you pirate a game, it's yours despite being theft. You can sell it, make copies of it, destroy it, hand it down, what ever. If you buy the same game legally online via steam or an other D2D application, well then, you don't really own it. You are temporarily "renting" it in a sense and they can delete the game from your profile depending on your actions. VHS format of watching movies lasted 25 years before being replaced by the DVD. The DVD lasted ten years, from 1998-2008before being replaced by blu-ray. Why so short? Was there a need? No, there wasn't. All the big entertainment companies went to the same pow-wow and decided it was the new thing.
The gap between rich and poor is getting bigger which isn't good at all. What was an average family's income two decades ago is now barely below average, and it isn't the lack of jobs that's causing it. All the rich people are throwing the market askew. What I consider to be a hard decision on whether to buy that new tv isn't even a passing thought to a millionaire. So, things become more expensive because companies see that their items are still selling despite a price increase, making it out of reach or harder for the average joe, which by the way is a family that makes under $250,000 in the US's current standard.
Sinking deeper into a recession the United States is desperately trying to stay balanced, making it easier for companies to have their way to keep jobs going, except they don't care about the US, only what nets the most profit. When I learned in economics that GDP is supposed to increase yearly I thought "Really? How is the same GDP as last year a loss if it was fine then? Is it possible to gain yearly increases forever and not fall back?" Meaning that even without a recession, in two hundred years at the current pace it would be perfectly normal to pay 20$ for a candy bar since wages and prices slowly increase.

The US seems a better place than most to be. People seem extremely critical eh.
Most of the people have said they hate the government. Whether that's reasonably backed up or not it seems like people just naturally dislike people in power, or maybe more like, people in power who feel very distant? Maybe not.
Either way, there are a few other countries that I wouldn't mind living in but I for one would not be living in Japan.

I don't care about the government, I just don't like the culture here. What? The US has a lot of different cultures. People in Texas are different from New Yorkers. Might as well state that you hate the Texan culture since that's the one everyone always uses to talk negatively about people in the US.

As for what I think of my country(immigrated to the US from the Philippines):
Culture
Others have already said it: what you see in the media is a horribly inaccurate portrayal.(Which is why I don't bother watching TV anymore).
We can start by dividing the culture into states. Compare the West Coast with the East Coast and don't forget to compare whatever is in the middle. But let's not stop there. let's break further down into cities. Just compare San Francisco with Compton.
I know idiots and I know friends. There are people I hate and people I love. Can't get more complicated than that really.
Economy
^This
Government
Ties in with the economy. Frankly, I think we are largely ignoring the fact that businesses have a lot of power when it involves itself with politics. Do you really think that some executive will care about your rights? Hell no. I also hate that I have to vote for a person who then votes for the next president of the United States of America. Feels rigged to me.

No not particularly - I find it impractical to hate large groups of people - I dislike their govt's foreign policy, In a way I do hold it against the populous for not rising up to stop this injustice - but democracy is just a sham and deep down I know it isn't their fault that they care more about trivial things like baseball than the environment or the death of fellow human beings - I cannot blame them for trying to decide what to wear when others have nothing to wear. I'm fairly sure somebody above me has already covered the corporatocracy argument so I won't repeat it here.
I only hate people who hate others for no rhyme or reason - Abraham lincoln himself said something along the lines of " I do not know that man I must get to know him better" (please don't counter with the white supremacist argument - nobody's perfect). I do not like to hate - Hate is something I try to avoid it is a vile emotion although without hate we would be unable to recognise love.
I thing concern for the misguided is a better word than hate. We are all humans, and no matter how many differences people try to pull out we're all the same deep down.
