I don't know why all those post in 2007 forgot about China. China is a real and threat to american security. The people don't understand us as well as they should, and americans don't understand chinese people as well as they should. That complied with the fact that japan, an ally we are sworn to protect, has disputes about oil rights in the japanese sea makes a conflict all the more real.
China also, like russia, has enough nuclear warheads to decimate every major Us city. They have superior aircraft (they're new gen MiGs), that can out menuver our F-22 raptors (THATS why the pentagon doesn't want em - time for the F-35s). China also has no reserves using small nuclear shells in their tank arsneal, and their total possible ground forces outnumber the Usa's.
However, due to the fact their army is equipped for large scale field combat, they would fair horriblely trying to invade an urban area or an island (lets say... japan or Taiwan?).
The american military spends alot of money on defense to be sure, but much of it is on new technologies that become helpful (albeit years later) to private enterprise and the public. These new techs are designed to reduce collateral and human losses.
Like guns that laser point the distance to a window, fire a round, and upon entering the window, the round explodes and kills a sniper. Previously, a machine gun would be required to paint the floor, or a round used to level a small building - destorying the building and killing anyone still inside.

I thought China just stole Sukhoi aircraft and that MiG was the domain of small, third-world countries wanting a couple fighters to enhance their dictator's penis size. From what I understand China has the J-10, J-11 (stolen/unlicensed build Su-27/30) and recently reverse-engineered the Su-33.
Plus, I don't see any, any MiG, or Sukhoi for that matter, not equipped with a Russian plasma-cloaker [alleged to exist and function] even getting near the F-22 without being painted and ass-rammed by an AIM-120. And when did the F-35, despite aerodynamic massaging between X-35 and F-35 stages, become more maneuverable than the TV-equipped/lower wing-loaded F-22?

The U.S. military needs to start spending money to engineer super vampires.
Such as:

That ought to scare the chinese a little.

I don't don't know why, but I lumped the russians and chinese together. Chinese do have modified MiG-30 with have compareable abilities to the F-22, and I always thought the Mig-30 was a good fighter. The latest Sukhoi (Russian for those who don't know), as far as I've been told, is known for its superior agility. Apperantly it is more then just a neat plane to admire because of its foward wings.
The chinese do have Jian-10, but I don't know anything about them really except they look like older MiGs, and China is developing the plane it's self (which means it will be recalled because it will give kids lead poisioning).
And about the F-35 being more agilie, I don't think it is going to have a better chance in a dog fight, but it will be more capable of delievering its payload and bringing the pilot back home.
Of course in a fight, they'd both wonder around blind like a bat becaus neighter would be able to see eachother on their radar due to stealth, and it'd be like the battle over britian with the pilots actually having to get visuals outside the cockpit lol.

Wait, MiG-30? IIRC there's MiG-29A/C/K/M, 29OVT, 29SMT, 33(alt name for M), and 35. AFAIK China has just aquired/stolen/reverse engineered Sukhois. Do you mean Su-30? Must be because you said forward wings; =canards, as that is the one thing Mikoyan has not done to the MiG-29. And anyway, the Su-30s the Chinese copied are the ones without canards IIRC. And it is neat and agile but the Su-27 platform is huge and has nowhere near the T/W ratio of the F-22; it'll hemmorage airspeed at anything below 30,000 feet while the Raptor could almost literally stand on it's tail and dance circles around the stalled Flanker.
The chinese do have Jian-10, but I don't know anything about them really except they look like older MiGs, and China is developing the plane it's self (which means it will be recalled because it will give kids lead poisioning).
IMO the J-10 isn't really like any MiG aside from delta wings. The J-10 is more features from the Gripen, Eurofighter, and Rafale mixed together and claimed to be indigenous design. (I could have slapped something together that looks better). And BTW, LOL, good one!
And about the F-35 being more agilie, I don't think it is going to have a better chance in a dog fight, but it will be more capable of delievering its payload and bringing the pilot back home.
You have a point. the F-35 has more features built into it and is overall more modern than the F-22, especially with DAS. You could say it's gen 5.2 to the Raptor's Gen 5.0.

Well, isn't that what IFF is for? And the JSF's DAS covers this point anyway [if it works as claimed].

That is a bizarro shotgun, really! hope it comes to FPS soon. When that thing goes to the battlefield, there will be a big mess! The AA-12 is in the HL2 Mod Neotokyo.
Play Assault and unlock it: practically no recoil, shreds anything in close range.

In case America become like Nazi, other countries just have to ally together to beat them. I wonder what cool weapon is here in Philippines.

I think currently the U.S has far too much economic troubles to be the worlds best military. I'm not saying that the people in our military are bad, its just we are so hampered by our current shitstorm of a economy we can't really do all that much.

@sv51macross
With the foward wings I was talking about the Su-30s, and the J-10 don't fly like em, they the kinda reminded me of some toy models I had of a random MiG. lol
And as for the F-22 vs F-35, niether would be able to lock on from a far distance due to stealth. And when they do get into close range, their arsenal wont have anything that can shoot an enemy that close. They'd have to go with guns, thus my analogy with prop plane dog fights.
It'd all come down to e-warfare in reality. A giant chess game that'd take time. But just one on one, I still think they'd fly around, never see each other, run out of fuel and have to land.

Yeah, modern dogfights will just come down to who MIGHT find who first. the AWAC will be more important than the fighter itself, I'd think.
However, I am a Corpsman and Razama is in the USAF or the JASDF I believe so I'll leave him to clarify.

I'm in the USAF but my speciality isn't aircraft, just logistics. I also sometimes act as a liason to the JASDF, but only as an assistant to my boss. But your right jericho, the awacs will be calling the shots, and the pilots will just have to have some balls and intelligence. Cause at mach speeds, you can't see the enemy anyways so you rely on your radar. If their radar isn't working because of stealth, the pilot would depend on info from the awacs and centeral command. To them it'd feel like piloting in circles until suddenly the enemy is infront of them due to the pilot following his flight path.
So that is why it all comes down to e-warfare, who has the better intelligence, your people knowing the weaknest of the enemy and what not.
However, against a 4th or (god help em) 3rd gen fighter (like all the countries in the mideast and north korea have), our pilots would see an enemy plane miles away.
They'd shoot em down so fast it'd be ridiculous. Actually, during the invasion of Iraq (George W.), the Iraq airfoce didn't even take off. Their fighter were blown out of the sky in the first war before they even knew they had been locked on. They learned their lesson and didn't even try this last time around.

Reminded me razama, What's Japan leaning towards more currently, EF-2000 or F-35? Or is Japan still trying to get Raptors?

If japan gets raptors they will be on loan.
just how France "loaned" us the repeating howitzer* after world war one.
We could use them. display them. we could also requisition them. but we where forbidden from manufacturing them.
all so the j.s.d.f. is forbidden from going over "x" amount of war planes, last i heard they where at maximum capacity.
*That's the slang name, i don't know the military name for it.

Yeah, when's Japan going to finally get rid of that postwar relic clause in their constitution? It's really really outdated in current times.

After that, they want get ahead start on the F-35s.
Of course, EF-2000 is like a backup. I heard the french let the japanese pilots try their plane, but the majority of them didn't like them. And I don't know if it is a racial or political thing but they wont even consider a russian fighter. It might be because a potentail enemy will have complete knowledge of your fighters, but w/e the reason MiGs and Su are off the table. So that leaves the Typhoon, but it is more of a rebound date since they can't get the F-22.
Edit: I think the treaty was 100 years, so 2050. But the bush admin got rid of some restrictions because the japanese are facing hostility from china. Not the government itself, but alot of chinese people are racist aganist japanese for the crimes commited during WWII. No development is allowed on weapons, but they are developing their own stealth tech now.

I've also heard talk of the JASDF working on a next-gen fighter loosely based off drawings leaked by Lockheed. The new fighter is supposedly called the Shin Shin, but this is one of those "I heard from a guy who knows a guy" deals

Is anybody really going to care about that treaty if it's broken? It was made pretty much by the US who had just owned Japan with a couple of nukes and utter military defeat. There is no way it's still politically relevant.
And I can understand not liking the Rafale. It's okay and all but I can't help feeling that it's stubby canards (and that they're mounted pretty much right above the wing) hamper maneuverability.

Well they want to make a stealth fighter, one that can bomb a launch pad incase a crazy little dictator decides to launch a nuke at them. I think the Shinshin is being made by mitsubishi (yeah the car company). The leaked design I think was actual just the F-35.
They need a new fighter, and the US doesn't want to give the our F-22s (Japan lost some data from their Navy computer containing joint US-Japan operations, so they are on a tight leash). They think that if they make their own plane, they wont have to rely on the US anymore for protection from Russian and Chinese stealth fighters.
Cause right now my poor japanese buddies are flying F-4s (vietnam era planes)...
EDIT:The skills of america's soilders is what we depend on though right? Guess which one of these guys was in the marines? (hint: last guy to fire the gun)

I thought the F-2-big-2-b-a-good-fighters and the F-15Js had replaced the F-4EJ by now.
Also, what about Japan getting Strikes instead of Raptors? I'm sure that the Strike Eagle with -229s and AESA will be able to keep Japan's airspace secure for awhile.
