Hey Guys, I was wondering since my dad's been leening into me lately when exactly does anime start to get inappropriate and unacceptable? I mean dont get me wrong I love anime and hentai but at the same time my dad is telling me that im 21 and that I should be focusing on things such as job skill development etc etc...So I was wondering what peoples views here on fakku.net is on this matter, and what I should do about this? I mean as of right now ive sort gone undercover with my anime watching habits cause my dad is trying to get me to move on so yaaa...If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated and please do feel free to discuss this and weigh in with your opinions on the matter of being older and watching anime and reading manga etc etc. :)In my opinion, it really depends on other factors. If you are 21 and have a job or are in college then it is fine, but if you are 21, living in your parents basement and unemployed you really need to grow up.
I'd go a step further and throw in discouraged workers rather than unemployed. There is a difference. Hits a little close to home for me. XD

I think there isnt really a cut off for it. I can understand growing out of it but when your hobbies start to get in the way then theres a problem. You get older so you have a lot more responsibilities. Sort out what you need to do compared to what your doing and in the process theres room for it then do what you love but remember, every one needs a day job.[size=12] [/h]

You'd be better at focusing on searching a job blablabla...
It's all crap, do as you like and don't let anybody tell you what is good for you. You'll never have a happy life if you focus on what others think of what is appropriate or not. Already enough people socially repressed you don't need to join them. Let the society take care of itself, you don't need to be its slave.

Quite a unique, if not slightly pessimistic way to put it, but I like. XD

You can't support your hobby with out a job. Unless of course, you are, once again, a NEET

Ok I give up on that one, be an unemployed morally reprehensible guy if you want but if you're a consumerist you'll probably need a job anyway.
I could tell you there is no problem to be a NEET but it would be a lie, I have difficulties to respect people living with their parents after 20.
It go against my philosophy to be morally OR financially dependant to anybody.
Oh wait, just checked some NEET don't live with their parents. In that case it's ok in my book.
Anyway I told you to not follow any opinion so don't take mine neither.

The best bet would to get a job hosting a website deticated to anime and hentai where your main functions would be to moderate forums, keep the site up and running, translate new anime and hentai, and attend Cons to keep in touch with all your fans.

Now I'm quite the opposite. I think the ability to be able to provide for yourself and actually doing it are independent of each other. Although I can't right now, if I could provide for myself I would be fine even though I still live with my dad.
I'm not really anxious to leave. I value my privacy, but I get that just fine even though another person lives here, and I'm never planning on ever dating or getting married, so that doesn't apply. Besides that my dad will more than likely die before this house is paid for, so I would end up responsible for it even if I did move out. Might as well stay, pay off the house when he dies and continue living here as I always have.

It all depends on the situation, but I sometimes see people failling to take their own habitation becoming "impregnated" by their family in time and I feel like they failed to become unique individuals. It's probably not systematic but it seems like it's not so rare and it somewhat disturb me.
But I'm aware it's a pessimistic point of view. Some could argue it's better to be impregnated by "good" values than to become an unique but hard to handle individual.
By the way excuse my approximate english grammary, I'm not a native speaker.

I left home because I noticed that the longer I stayed the hard it would be for both my family and me to leave, and plus I felt like I wasn't living up my potential. I didn't have to impress my family, and I didn't HAVE to impress my girlfriend (kinda), but I did want to leave and start my own life to impress myself with my own accomplishments.

I understand what you mean as I have two 28 years old friends still living with their parents and I saw they had less and less resolve to quit them with years. Before it was by financial concern but later it looks like it became by plain comfort. They probably gonna be out soon as one found a job far from his home and the other has problems with his familly but I'm still amazed (and somewhat disturbed) they stayed so long.
The first one is kinda socially challenged, I think all these years without much contact outside his familly didn't help his case.

Hmmm...from my point of view, after me graduating and getting a stable job, I would immediately move out of the house.
There are a lot of reasons, but mainly because of privacy and my parents are watching television loud enough to make me go nuts, it's like listening to a crowd cheering at a concert.
About the age...no boundaries. As long as it is under your control and never interferes with your real life, go ahead and watch.

Also, protip. If the anime has any, any fanservice in it, don't watch it in public. The girl wrinkling her nose at you? That would be me.
lol nice little comic Tegumi
yeah not a good idea to have some fanservice in public

Hmm. You can never be to told for anime. Just don't be open about it. So don't use japanese phrases in real conversations, don't collect anything to do with anime, and keep your anime to yourself and some people who accept it. Basically, DON'T BE AN OTAKU IN PUBLIC OR AROUND OTHER PEOPLE. S'what I do. And I read ALOT of manga.

But I don't agree that you should hide it at all. I people don't ask you of cause don't have to absolotly tell them, but I treat my interest in anime as any other spare time activety: if something comes up in conversation that reminds me of something relevant to the conversation I will talk about it, and that also includes anime/mange.
It is nothing to be ashamed of or hide!

True. It really depends on the situation and the people around you. Many of my friends are manga addicts and we have the occasional Manga rant sessions. Whereas adults tend to find manga/anime childish. You just have to know when you should and should not talk about or watch anime. My parents are asses about manga, So I say nothing.
