When is it inappropriate to be looking at anime?

Everyone has a right to watch anime for however long they so choose.
I find you're father quite distasteful for saying that anime is inappropriate. Really? inappropriate? No. Even my mom does not approve of it, but still approves of me watching it. She don't watch it, so she don't care. I do. Thats what matters.

fuck anyone who says you should not watch anime and move on with your life. because i really don't think watching heroes, lost, or any other mainstream show on television is any less "life-hindering" than anime.
i mean, seriously, if your dad watches sports or any sort of action show, then you can watch anime. they're both non-life-progressing entertainment. and what about reality shows, or game shows?
sorry that the japanese have a bit more imagination than the rest of the world, but anime is awesome.
i'm assuming, of course, that this is about watching anime in general and that you don't spend like, ALL your time dl'ing and watching anime. cuz that's actually kind of bad, and should be reserved for summer and winter break. or whatever 21-year-olds have.

Spoiler:
Also, protip. If the anime has any, any fanservice in it, don't watch it in public. The girl wrinkling her nose at you? That would be me.
That doesent really apply to everybody, to those that dont have any shame or if their watching it with friends who act the same.
the picture made me giggle though.....

I think its aright to be 21 and still read manga and watch anime, just don't let it get out of control. You definitely should listen to your dad, but you don't have to give up what you like doing.

So I don't know if anyones posted this yet but you DO realize there are different genres in anime/manga right..? Like shounen, kodomo, their mostly known in manga since anime are movies so they rather look into adventure, romance and so on while in manga one often says what type one like because their usually based on artstyle (usually)
Kodomo = aimed toward children
Shounen = aimed toward teenage boys
shoujo = aimed toward teenage girls
Josei = aimed toward older woman
Seinen = aimed toward older male.
Now since I'm female I got more experience with shoujo and josei so I'll give you an example. Shoujo will often have issues thats relevant to a teenager, first love, first sex, relationship issues, high school, and so on. And it will go around that, ups and downs. While josei, if it's going to be about the same issues will focus more about being 30 and singel and looking for love while trying to juggle being a buisness woman. Or being 30 and singel and not wanting to settle down but feeling that all the man go for younger woman and the search of a better life.
But both of these are dedicated toward female writers and are about romance. So if your questioning age and anime/manga I think you should think abit.. Your two years above what one may call a teenager, if you go ask your grandparent if your an adult most of those will laugh and say your still a babybutt.
Maybe if you were still interested in anime for little children I might put a question if you don't want to grow up but I assume you watch regular shounen and probably some josei without realizing it so I think your doing alright.

Is it bad that I prefer Shoujo over shounen? I alos also read romantic mangas, and absolutely hate dragonball and stuff in which fighting is the main 'dish', and romance or relationships are the 'dessert', or even left out.
And I'm a guy, fyi.
Also, you are, indeed, NEVER too old for spongebob.
never.
EDIT: typos make me sad :(

*has not seen spongebob*
No of course not, indeed the mainstream guys only want to read about zombies, murder and action but it's kind about personality. I know alot of males that prefer romance over action, and the same goes for females. Just if you take 10 males and 10 females. atleast 9 out of those 10 would choose the mainstream choice xD

Haha, not at all. The anime I watch, and manga I read, is primarily romance and slice-of-life. Head over to MAL, and you'll realize that a lot of males prefer the romance genre.

well there's a difference between shoujo romance and romance with ecchi. Then you kind of become like a mix between shoujo's fine art and the need for boobs.

Often for me, it ends up being the difference between a good Romance Drama and Romance Comedy. Of course that isn't always how it works, but usually how it turns out for me.

Yeah I kind of agree, but there are alot of shoujo which are hilarious without any ecchi. But they usually have some other focus to make to throw in funny things like gender bending (my fav shoujo genre >.<) or some character which is off the chart ridiculous but I see your point. Most ecchi tend to make themselves extremely funny which is probably to make them seem less close to hentai so the public can read without problems.

gender bending (my fav shoujo genre >.<).You sure you're not me? Have you read houro musuko? It's about a boy who wants to be a girl, and a girl who wants to be a boy. I read all volumes in half a day.
On the internet!
In other words: I'm talking about the shoujo without a single sideboob, or anything provocative.

Oh, no I haven't. I usually don't read online but I think I'll make an expection and try this one out xD

In my case. Don't stop. if you love it so much. Make it a part of your life. That way, your always looking at anime from inside your mind.
By making part of our lives means live your life based on the good qualities, aim what they aim that is good, copy their good lifestyle, FOR $%^$& SAKE JUST BE AN OTAKU DUDE!!
