LEFT 4 DEAD II

I don't understand what you people mean by "Too Soon". L4D was more than enough game solely on the multiplayer alone. It was a full year between L4D and L4D2. Hell, it even came out with a free DLC, what more could you want? Sure it will be like L4D with a bunch of add ons, but it will be L4D with a bunch of MONUMENTAL add ons. Let's go over a few:
-The Spitter
-The Jockey
-The Charger
-Wandering Witches
-Enhanced Director AI
-Melee Weapons
-Special, Common Infected (Hazmat, Mud Men, SWAT, Clown, . . .)
-New Levels
-Everything that made L4D awesome
Valve is even thinking about releasing the original campaigns as DLC for L4D2. Think about it! 8+ campaigns to play with friends that and enemies alike. I for one, will be in Versus mode for a long time. ;)

It's just that everyone who bought L4D now has to pay $60 more for L4D2. Many of the things such as the new common infected, melee weapons, and maps could have been included in an expansion or an update. Sure, maybe the enhanced AI director will be better but I doubt that many gamers will care or notice as the changes are very subtle. Instead of included an add-on patch, Valve decided to sell another game for full price when it is more of a L4D 1.5 instead of 2.
At the moment, you can't play as any of the original characters which is mortifying as many people liked them more than these characters. Seriously, after playing L4D for several weeks it gets bland. This is why the modders decided to create new maps, and even weapons. Full price is a bit steep for what they are offering.
Also, the old community of L4D is afraid of being left behind by the developers at Valve. What are they going to add if there is a new game? Will they just slowly add the new things that makes up L4D2 or give us completely new content? They promised the old fanbase that they would constantly give them more content so why not just wait for the updates? It really depends on your opinion. People who play Valve games on PC understand that they get so much out of their games. Mods, several free updates, amazing support and patches. They're pampered and now they're mad that they don't get the free updates that they expect from valve.

I understand your desire for DLC and not paying another $60. But keep in mind that this whole DLC thing is relatively new for console games, and not full expansions just like add-ons and what not. And the AI director changes aren't so unnoticeable. The Director changes the layout of the level itself, depending on how well the survivors are doing. i.e. the survivors are winning, the safehouse will be behind a maze of twist in turns. the survivors all have like >30 health, it's a straight shot to the safehouse. I don't know, but I believe that would be a rather noticeable difference.
As for the characters the only thing I can say is: why does it matter. It's not like there's some complex story behind L4D. It's just four people trying to survive a zombie infection. It's simplicity and versatility is what makes it so awesome. And I personally didn't like any of the survivors anyway, except Louis.
And for the L4D community, the same thing happens whenever a game gets a sequal. The probably won't get left behind, valve is cool like that. But if not getting left behind by Valve is so important to them, then they should gladly just shell out $60 to keep up with them.

ViewtifulDevil: you make good points there.
I just think that Valve is doing TOO much with L4D 2, bogging it down with so many new additions that I feel the gameplay is drastically different from the old... and more complicated with all these new things...
The Jockey? The clown that attracts hordes? I mean come on, these ideas are getting ridiculous.

Well, games like Fallout 3 and Red Faction have quite a bit of DLC for the consoles and the PC. Besides I really don't think that the AI director will be so incredible that it would move lets say a bus to block your path. I think that at most it would have several safe houses which it rotates between depending on whether or not you're doing well. It is a new route but it's still the same map.
The community don't really like the new characters. Why not actually include a storyline instead? People are confused as to why they are there and how they got to another place. Instead of adding completely new characters they could have emphasized on the older characters and create a more intriguing story. This is pretty much a new map, one or two in-game cut-scenes, and you have a story which can be compiled into one DLC.
Sure, maybe the community isn't going to be left behind but why would you shell $60 dollars for a new game? Gabe Newell has not gone back on anything he has ever said before but an entirely new game? I bet you anything that the modders of L4D will just incorporate melee weapons and new maps into the first game. It's mostly the PC community that are arguing anyways. Valve made the mistake of thinking that they would pay that money to get the new game. Valve is a company that is built on the PC community. It's their bread and butter. People are just butt hurt that they don't get the top quality Valve support that they do in the other games.

Vēnī. I wish the witch went after your compadres after she raped you to death. That was supposed to happen, or did happen, but they thought it would be too hard for gamers, so they dropped it. Wandering witches is a wonderful idea, imo.

This is my third most looked forward to game next to AC2 and MW2.
Personnally i believe they ARE gonna screw up in the melee system and it won't be balanced out untill 50 patches have passed, and even then you will have 2 attacks for each, chrouched attack and standing, no different directions.
But even despite that obvious to-be failure this game is a serious competitor to all the games coming out in end 2009.
I wonder how good it'll turn out, the hazmat suit zombies sounds like they are gonna make the gameplay way more difficult then it should be...
P.s.
me either ^_^

You poor sod, that dlc is coming out NEXT YEAR. I'm sorry but not in a few days.

True but. . .
A man without a lower jaw how strangles you . . . with his tongue? A bloated zombie that attracts other zombies with his own vomit?
L4D was already ridiculous, adding the Jockey and clowns only brings it full circle :P

@ViewtifulDevil: but we've seen these archetypes before, the Smoker and the Tank. L4D2 gameplay will totally change because all these new special infected AND uncommon common will make the game a living hell to survive. Too many things to keep track of; L4D2 is getting too congested with too many ideas IMO.

I am already on the edge while waiting for this. This would be a very fun game to play after my finals, hopefully it's released when that time comes.

@ gmoney
I concur, the awesomeness was that in left 4 dead, everything was so easy. You could EASELY make plans for every situation, thing is, they just never would work. Nothing goes like you think, the uncommen are just gonna bring alot of chaos to it all.
P.s. Sorry! Heard today DLC IS coming out ina few days if not already, my wrong. Upon announcement 2010 was mentioned.

However you should keep in mind that there are rarely more than 2 special infected attacking you at once (with expert mode and survival not included). The uncommon common infected are, for the most part, level specific and are meant to change things up.
To be honest though, I don't see having eight special infected and one level specific (per level) enemy can really mess up a game too much. Most games have more to worry about than that, usually pitting you against several types of enemies at once. The extra infected add more variety and challenge to the game, not to mention making Versus mode a hell of a lot more fun, which is actually what I'm looking foreword to most. XD

@ViewtifulDevil: wrong - I've seen all three Special Infected attack at once or within a 10 second window, even on advanced, and especially right after a Tank. Plus, don't forget that the spawn time for each Special Infected is 20 seconds, so every 20 seconds we'll have a possibility of more than three special infected attacking at once, and there's only four players.
As for Versus, I'm not even going to go there since I'm not a Versus fan. To say least though, would be that Versus gameplay will change even more with the addition of many different types of Special Infected - really hectic.
