So the demo was pretty cool. The violence is way over the top and they really overdid the whole "I'm a cold badass who slices up dudes" theme but it was still kind of fun. I'm horrible at it though. I wish there was like a dodge roll or something.I think Platinum Games said the reason why there's no dodge mechanic is because they wanted players to rely on skill and not on cheap things. Which I don't have a problem with at all, parrying is gonna be your main defensive mechanic anyway and it's not like you can just mash it out for easy kills.

How do you parry? It said like left stick and attack but apparently I'm awful at it because I wasn't able to get it. Do your press the stick down and hit square as soon as an enemy attacks?

Yeah, pretty much. I've only been able to parry against the boss but against enemies, not so much, but then again I've only played the demo twice.

sounds like someone missing the point that this wasn't even canon at all tbh. It's just a alt game detailing one of the possibilities of how he became the CN in 4
Remember that whole mind screw in 2?
Not to mention, the obvious lack of the word "Solid" in the title. This is what seems to piss me off most, when people say it's not a Metal Gear Solid game.
News flash, Einstein: it's NOT a Metal Gear Solid. It's a Metal Gear RISING game. So stop whining and expecting something that is MGS. If you don't like how this is turning out even now, go follow Ground Zeroes instead.
Geez, you'd think after Metal Gear Ac!d, people would get the hint and not expect a real MGS game that doesn't have Solid in the title...[/h]
Anyway, I bought ZoE HD recently, and I'll be testing out the demo for myself later this December.
I read this thread and was like "why are people comparing this to MGS?".
Yes MGS is an amazing series, but Metal Gear in general has more bad titles than good. Starting from the beginning, MG isn't great. It was good at the time, I guess, and I suppose people think it's a "cool, retro" title, but tbh it just doesn't play well. Snake's revenge was and is FUCKING TERRIBLE, and much like MGR:R it is an action game. MG2 was redeeming, but not enough to call it a good game. MGS was phenomenal, Ghost Babel(which I though was going to be a remake, but wasn't) was shit. Ac!d and Ac!d 2 were shit, and since then Kojima has mainly stuck to MGS, and has brought out many, many ports and remakes. Yes, MGS might be a good series and MGR:R might be horrid, but that's like comparing The Legend of Zelda: OoT/MM/WW/TP/SS to Link's Crossbow Training.

The only reason that Platinum Games is on board -
Kojima let his underlings work on this project as he was focusing on Peace Walker and his soon released Fox Engine. But they couldn't come up with the concept of Zan-Datsu. ( Cut and Take ) They didn't have a solid point to make Raiden dodge, nor to even stealth.
Kojima scrapped the game due to time crunches and getting no where, But Platinum games got a hold of him and asked if they could Colab the game. Kojima is still around with the game as a historical adviser and story adviser as well. This is still his game, but running and designed on and by Platinum.
For the story however, I like that they did this, Theres more room to do what they want, also they can throw in special scenes where Raiden relives his past as a child soldier and events between MGS2 and MGS4.
For those who are butthurt, Don't be. The game is not a Solid installment. You got Ground Zeroes for that and possibly The Phantom Pain ( Rumored to be Metal Gear Solid 5 )

This is as much as a Metal Gear Solid game as Dirge of Cereberus was a Final Fantasy game.
People get too worked up over the Metal Gear in the name. It's a side story, so the changes to the gameplay as well as the main developer (Platinum Games did make Bayonetta after all) shouldn't be too much of an issue with anybody.

The gameplay looks good, I'll definitely be picking this up on the claustrophobic videogame big sale on April (don't ask about the "claustrophobic" part xD)
The fact that it's been confirmed to be a spinoff and not part of Metal Gear Solid (I only have played the first and second, but I know how the story goes on and ends and I like it) still seems that not many people get it.
Yes, they have said it takes place 4 years after MGS4, but also, it was confirmed to be a spinoff, and hasn't been confirmed as canon as far as I've seen so that means to me pretty much that it's just some kind of "what if".
Ignoring the setting of the story so far (and yes, I also know that Metal Gear it's always been about story and the stealth gameplay), it looks like a solid action game, I liked Bayonetta too and this looks quite good gameplay-wise.
Also, there's still many details not known about the story. Details that surely will be only revealed when the game comes out, and while we're at it, February 19 is the North American release date.
So... only one more month til we see how it turns out.

I'm not gonna bother going into how I'm fine with it because it's a side game that would have existed if not for PG, a company who knows action better than anyone else, because I've told that tale too much elsewhere. Instead, have a seven minute video of gameplay footage with a hint of bipolarity at the end that may give us a better peek into Raiden's character and past.
Also, for those of you who have reserved the game at GameStop, you will now not only be getting the GreyFox skin, but also a newly announced, 25 page, artbook. Source

Honestly I'm skeptical about it but I will be playing the demo on the 22nd or whenever it comes out that's for sure.

I so love when formerly good character become half-insane axe crazy maniacs. <3
And to think that I so hated Raiden in Sons of Liberty, the boy grew up well. I guess I'll thoroughly enjoy slashing people apart when Revengeance comes out next month.

... I'm saying, you missed out on playing two amazing PS2-era games in HD AND playing the demo of MGR in advance by not buying the Zone of the Enders HD Collection.

Oh ok lolz I see what happened there.

Good to see that we finally get a look at the "Jack the Ripper" persona, it is more than heavily implied near the end of MGS2 anyway, but now we get to see it in action. Can't wait for this game anymore.

Spoiler:
Boss Battle, Monsoon look the most fun. But no Samuel yet.
I actually thought Monsoon look the least interesting in comparison to the rest. I do like how he breaks into pieces, and I especially love the heavy rain, but compared to Mistral--from what was shown that is--I don't think he holds a candle to her battle.
Regardless, the battles are looking pretty sweet, and I'm eagerly awaiting the battle against Samuel. I have some high hopes for that rival clash.

Have to admit: these boss battles look sick. Monsoon is definitely the most interesting as he directly attacks the Achilles heel of the game's primary focus: to slash shit any way you want.
You probably have to go for his head or something when he starts pulling that tactic.

Seems like Monsoon is becoming a fan favorite here already, but I'm more interested in the background theme music when he was featured in the trailer. I MUST HAVE IT.

... it looks even more fluent then before. I MEAN, YOU CAN EVEN HOLD DOWN THE BLOCK BUTTON NOW?!
Also, for the bosses, I'd say Monsoon looks best concept-wise (just as a boss), but the Mistral fight looks to be way more fun. Sundowner, though, just looks like a downer in comparison, but even then, it already looks badass on its own.
One more month, people. One more month until we get our Action Game of the Year...
