Am I the only one who thought the demo was topnotch until you fight the dog-with-a-chainsaw-tail?
Parrying is fucking impossible.

Just like Devil May Cry with Royal Guard and God of War with it's parry, the risk reward varies between them. Royal Guard doesn't just block, it gives you meter to be OP for a while, meanwhile GOW gives you an invincible counter attack. MGR gives you from a standard block with no damage done to you to a full counter. The window is strict and Bayonetta had a very similar thing. A regular counter which just blocks the enemy and a perfect counter which damages AND activates Witch Time.

I should've elaborated more.
I'm good at countering.
I just cant do it in MGR:R because Click-left-stick+X is one of the most unnatural button combos in history.
Its nearly impossible to do in the heat of the moment. Why cant it just be a single fucking button, is that so hard?
Worst part is you cant even change the control scheme. Its fucking awful.

There is no clicking involved, it's towards enemy+X, clicking+X/L3+[] would be impossible and stupid.

False alarm that's now been cleared over Skype. The tutorial apparently wasn't clear enough to Ant and his friends, so all this time, they thought they had to click the stick down to parry. It's resolved now, and he has no problems kicking Bladewolf's ass.

So I just beat the game and wow. That final boss was pretty awesome.
I'm gonna try and beat it on Revengence difficulty, or at least Hard. I did the first mission on Revengence and I couldn't get past the first encounter, if you get hit 5 times you die, and there's a Gecko there that can one shot you.
Platinuming this game is gonna be REALLY challenging, because you get a trophy for S Ranking everything on Revengence difficulty.

Unless there are special items to help you make your life on the harder difficulties easier, those No Damage boss trophies are pretty daunting. Its MGS 2 HD all over again, only a few notches up.
I'm not done with DmC since I'm waiting on the Vergil's Downfall DLC to complete it, but I made up my mind to pick up my Rising copy later to experience the action myself, not to mention, go nuts while hearing Monsoon's theme while fighting him, it's officially my favorite Desperado boss theme now.

This game was awesome, really fun. Died so many times on the final boss. Either I could not parry or I could not do the Blade mode. But it was fun, and the music was awesome. Will play again.

I'm not going to lie, Rising has become the new hack and slash entry into the genre with this offering, Konami and Platinum really outdid themselves here. It presents a good challenge for both MGS and action gamers alike because you need to be really good at countering every attack if you're going for S rankings, which will present somewhat of a problem if you're not good at parrying or avoiding attacks.

So did you guy's catch the soldier petting the cat during the monsoon speech scene?
The amount of reference was nice, subtle.
Also did anyone else see the enemies hiding in the boxes? It was a bit of a surprise.

This game does have a lot of collectibles to get, but most of these are almost pretty easy to miss, especially when you're fighting.
At the moment, I'm mostly concentrating on upgrading Raiden to his max potential while going for the story, random and enemy specific trophies before I go for the remainder of left hands, data transfers and VR missions because you can unlock the infinite wigs which grant you unlimited Ripper mode and more powerful blades once you get all of the collectibles. Should make the hard, Revengance and VR trophies the last things to do since those are what make this game one of the hardest to platinum.

The civilians one is going to be rough, I was able to save the civilian in the demo but the actual part that this happens in the game is a lot more difficult than before it feels [wait too long, and they will simply kill the civ anyway, regardless if you alert them or not.]

Crap, I forgot about the civilian rescuing as well.
I managed to save a couple thus far, but you need to be good with your ninja kills without attracting too much attention. This is another hard trophy to go after that requires some stealth.
I'm suggesting to everyone to make use of the restart function if you mess up your rescues and S rank attempts at fight checkpoints, that way you won't have to worry about ruining your overall rank on the harder difficulties. And you can farm for extra items that you may need since the restart function respawns everything in the area when you reach checkpoints.

I played the demo again with the knowledge of actually knowing how to parry. I sucked far less this time. Definitely picking up this game once I get some money.

I started the game today, and I must say, I'm VERY impressed. Since I'm not a pro at action games I'm playing on Easy (but without the assisted parry, that I have to learn for myself), but so far the game's been pretty challenging (the mooks, not so much, the unmanned machines, sometimes very) and above all, crazy awesome. I'm not playing for achievements or stuff, it's the first time since Gundam Musou 3 that I'm playing a game for the fun of it, and I'm very happy with that.
Oh, and Raiden is boss. I remember how badly I reacted to his introduction in MGS2, but hey, the kid grew balls... of steel. :D

So, I just got the game today, and I have a couple a stuff to say.
I am a huge fan of the Metal Gear series. I've played all of them except for Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops. In fact, this month i finished MGS2 on Extreme and MGS4 on Big Boss, as I wanted to review Raiden's story and stuff before playing MGR.
I started it today on the Hard difficulty (I'm in the first boss fight) and I have good and bad stuff to say about this game. What I will say is based on what I've played so far.
First of all, I will not talk about how they switched from stealth to action. They changed to "Rising" instead of "Solid" for some reason..
As an action game, it ia awesome, although the controls are a bit tricky. It is fast, badass, has nice music, an upgrade system, nice combos, epic momments, etc. Thumbs up for being a nice action game.
As a Metal Gear, it is the worst I played. It doesn't have that Metal Gear feeling that I was used to, the story doesn't feel "deep" or complex or emotional to me. And I haven't seen any connection or reference to other events or characters from other Metal Gears so far.. Iven though i knew this was going to be a "not so good" Metal Gear, I was disapointed.. But who knows? It may surprise me after I play a little more..

Kojima stated in an interview that Solid stands for the 3D graphics in the MGS series, moving from the sprites of the MSX. Rising is used to explain a whole new different game and genre just like Metal Gear Acid did.
Keep in mind that Metal Gear Solid: Rising was cancelled and this game happened, Platinum Games had about a year to fix everything and make a game out of it and they did a hell of a job. MGR is about lightning bolt action, MGS is stealth oriented.
There are references to other characters but mostly through codec calls.

Interesting stuff, mate. Seems Kojima has forgotten that the whole "Solid" thing was/is because the games are revolved around Solid Snake and his lineage, thus changing it to Rising was actually a not so bad call. A better call, or at least one that would've made more sense in context, would have been to re-title it as Metal Gear "Raiden", but whatever.
However, as I reported before in a much earlier post, Metal Gear Solid: Rising wasn't a mess that needed to be fixed. The story was already finished and most of the game was pretty much on it's way to being done. There was only one problem: the dev team couldn't make the gameplay balance BOTH action and stealth, as the segments felt too disconnected or jarring (or something). The guy who was in charge got insulted by Kojima because...Kojima...and with time and resources getting to be a problem, he went looking for a studio that could help get this thing finalized.
The head honcho of Platinum Games was like "Sure" and so they took over and began working on it like a machine. However, the head honcho didn't want to work on the story that was already written, and so he suggested to his new buddy Kojima that the game should have an all new story. Kojima's like "Sure!" and so the intricate story that was ALREADY FINISHED needed to be scrapped and the whole thing needed to be done anew, because, as the head honcho said in an interview, he "wanted to make sure Platinum Games left their mark".
The worst part of all this wasn't really what happened to Raiden's character (that's just my personal opinion), but was the fact that NOTHING CHANGED. The gameplay? Yeah, it still doesn't balance stealth and action.
If this is any indication of what Platinum Games thinks is stealth...

...than they clearly have never played a stealth game before, let alone a Metal Gear game. First hint: running outright =/= stealth
So yeah, Platimun Games made a fantastically fun action game, but it didn't actually fix anything. If anything, PG just pushed the the game into a single genre, which is what the original dev team could've done but since they were tasked with balancing the gameplay styles by Kojima they didn't think to do that.
